Is this Wire suitable for Vaping ?

Hi guys,


I'm in a pinch as my shipments of wire/coil are still delayed.

I have found some Nichrome Resistance wire at a local electronics store, is this safe to use ?

Used for wiring heating elements etc. 80% nickel, 20% chromium. - Resistance 13.77 ohm per metre.- Size 28 B&S (0.315mm).Pack of 4 metres.

Some additional info I found. To my understanding its all bad lol.

Kanthal is roughly 75% Iron, 20% Chromium, 5% Aluminum
Nichrome 60 is roughly 25% Iron, 15% Chromium, 60% Nickel
Nichrome 80 is roughly 20% Chromium, 80% Nickel

Nickel is poisonous, Aluminum causes Alzheimer, and Iron causes "fume metal fever" as listed above.

I just got home with the Nichrome and some organic cotton, any advice before I sail into uncharted waters ?

This stuff rocks!!

No idea If its the right stuff or not, but I just wound my first ever coil out of it and used cotton for the first time ever and holy cow it's awesome!!!!

When I first wound it on the MVP, it wouldn't fire at all, although it was reading 0.7ohms- I cranked it up to 11 watts and 4.2v and still nothing. Switched it onto my VTR at 15 watts and boooom! It lights up like a beast.

I actually didn;t even count the wraps, from memory I'd say 6 wraps around a cue tip stick. The coil itself seems to have discolored slightly, from shiny silver into a dull grey silver. I am not tasting anything unusual, in fact its the best flavor and vapor I've ever gotten out of this thing.

For anyone who hasn't tried using a RBA or built your own coils/wicks, get on it! It's 100x better than clearo style tanks. I own all the pro tanks, iclear's and even on a nasty R91 clone its magnificent.

a little late on reply here but...

yes nichrome can be used. you will need to do about 9-12 wraps with 28ga to get into the 1.5+ ohms. The reason your other mods didnt fire off was because of the .7 ohm rating. Most VV/VW mods wont fire a coil that low in ohms.

It took me a little while to understand that, as well as how the coil will drop resistance slowly over time, the coil at 1.ohm now works on my MVP, which is good because I ran my IMR battery dead already hah!

Its funny that I never liked my VTR until now. I wish I had more watts to play around with, this thing is hardly breaking a sweat at 15watts.

I believe the MVP won't fire if it below 1.3ohms.

Ever since I put this coil in, every Vape puts a smile on my face now, I never knew that vapor could get so warm and flavorful, I simply can't wait for my first mech to arrive and more importantly a decent RDA- This clone is so bad that it does not auto-feed at all, so you have to treat it like a RDA. To my knowledge its one of the first Tobeco R91/Kayfun clones, the shop I bought it from must have broken the Poly tank for it because it was missing from the box. The channels on the lower deck are about 0.3mm deep, will need to drill it out says the Forums.

Apart from that the deck is so tiny I barely fit that 6 wrap 28g coil between the posts (even on an angle) It will be fantastic to play with some decent hardware for a change.

I believe the MVP won't fire if it below 1.3ohms.

I have no reason to lie about it. Mine fires at 1.ohms. A Google search will reveal there are some disparities between individual MVP's.

You can pick Nichrome 80 up at Kidney Puncher, I use it all the time.
