Ok so I have been rebuilding my kanger aerotank coil heads with 1.5ohm single microcoil setups using cotton for wick. It has been working out great for me for a over a week. All of a sudden I start getting this weird issue. Whenever I draw on the aerotank it seems like the airway is being blocked or something. The draw seems a little tight (fully open air control) and I keep drawing and then after a couple seconds it is like the airway suddenly opens up (I can hear something in the head give way, like a little pop, hard to explain) and a bunch of burnt tasting nastiness rushes in followed by a sizzling sound from the coil after letting off. I have replaced the o-ring on the coil, rebuilt the coil, rewicked it four different times with varying levels of cotton, flushed out the base best I could in case something was in there, and rinsed out the coil head. It is weird, it worked great for a while and now no matter what I do with the coil head I can't get it to perform properly. No burnt insulator and coil is tightened down well. It also doesn't appear to be flooding or anything. Anyone experience this before?

Also I do build my coils pretty high because there is so much space for the stock dual coils that I like to drape the ends of the cotton down a bit so that it doesn't flood. It has worked for me thus far.

EDIT: Also the only thing I have changed is that a couple days ago I started using my own 6mg 50/50 juice which again had been performing very well up to this point.

I think I know what you're talking about here, although I'm at a loss to explain it.

I also vape DIY 50/50, I use Aerotanks nearly exclusively, rebuilt with 30 gauge micro coils (8 wraps, 1/16" drill bit). Much better than the stock dual coil heads, if I do say so myself. :)

Sometimes (and I stress sometimes) new coils produce the behavior you described nearly exactly, until they're broken in (an hour or less of use). They're fine after that.

My builds are different than yours. While it's still on the drill bit, I pull the coil down as far as it'll go into the coil housing. I guess you can say I build them "low". I use a small cotton flavor wick on top of the cotton-wicked coil, to take up the extra space in the juice channel.

Thanks for the tip Joe, only thing is, I had been using that coil for a while before it started happening. I only rebuilt because of the issue. Now here is the really weird part. My kayfun clone came in today way earlier than I thought it would. Being my first rebuildable I washed it down and built a coil and threaded in my cotton. 1.3ohms. Dabbed a few drops of juice onto the wick and tried it out. It did the EXACT SAME THING! It was like I was vaping my aerotank. Gonna use it for a bit and see if it stops.
