For me I will buy no built in battery mods.

I agree, having removable cells is the only way to go for convenience and value.

The thing that comes to mind for me when I hear about mods exploding while charging, or any device for that matter, is what type of charger are these people using? For example I use Apple wall adapters for charging all my usb devices, it outputs 5VDC and 1 amp. When people buy those cheap knock off adapters they might be outputting higher/lower voltages and current than the batteries are designed to take. It just seems too strange to me that under proper conditions a battery would explode, with the technology available today batteries are ridiculously safe with the exception of user error.

Yepper on the adapter if you are suing a 450 ma adapter to charge a mod you are asking for trouble.
The voltage drop from the mod needing more current can cause components in the charging circuit to over heat and fail.
Always use at least a 1 amp adapter.
