I still have a hard time first thing in the morning. I have to take small puffs and work my way into it. I noticed that my friends who coughed were trying to use it like a cig. I don't know about the other models but with a 510 a fresh battery and dripping a high nic liquid I can see why a person would have a hard time.

For my friends that I have converted they all got the hang of taking a mouth hit and then inhaling what they needed.

Haha, exact opposite for me... Nothing like a huge kick to the throat to wake you up! :D

Tell them to puff the e-cigarette like they would a cigar. If they don't understand that, tell them draw on it like a straw and then slowly inhale just a small amount of that vapor and just swirl the rest.

Thanks for the tip. I havn't been very successful yet with the vaping because #1 I wasn't getting much of a throat hit or #2 I would puff it like a cig and almost cough up a lung. I just did what you mentioned above and I think I finally get the whole vaping thing. It only took me a couple months. LOL

Not quite on topic, but I'm surprised people inhale directly into their lungs when they smoke(d)? I always brought the smoke into my mouth first.. I thought that was the normal way of smoking.

Me too; I'd never done the "lung inhale" until I read about it on this forum.

I've heard of it being called the "pot-smokers inhale", which may explain why it was originally popular in certain circles (holding in lungs afterwards for maximum effect). Others who are simply heavy smokers may do it for a similar, nicotine-specific reason :p

I think much of the rest of the time, it's just what you're first exposed to. You see other people smoking a certain way, you will mimic it.

See to me the proper way of smoking anything has always been fill your mouth, than inhale directly. How long you hold it in your lungs is up to you of course. When it comes to smoking marijuana direct inhale to the lungs is something I only do when it's nearing the end and there isn't much to hold on to. I know what the OP is talking about though, I have a friend who smokes and has been 'trying to quit' so it's been an occasional thing for him lately and he loved it when I let him try my 510 (18mg Dr Pepper from CanVape)....yet my other friend hit hit for barely a second and she coughed hysterically.

I think mindset has a great deal to do with it.

Before we bought our PVs most of us found ourselves here or similar forums researching just what we were getting into. The people that we introduce PVs too don't have a clear picture of what their inhaling and they're initial reaction is one of caution.
I think it's pretty similar to the people who cough around me when I smoke it because they're had asthma or asthma like symptoms for so long that the sight of anything smoke-like throws their bodies into a defense mode and makes them cough.

Only 1 friend of mine has been able to vape without coughing their lungs out... And I've let around 5 people try it.. I can't seem to figure it out. I even let my brother try a 0mg liquid, still the same result.

I love this fact...when people start coughing because the TH of the peanut butter is too much 8-o I ask them...what kind of smoker do they think they are...and take a huge long drag for excess vapor release
The analog smokers really seem to like the throat hit...most of them say "wow...that could actually work"...
