I've had my VTR for a few weeks now, and I've had this funny taste from day one. Thought it was my juice, my wicks, etc and after changing every thing up - everything still tastes like...plastic? Only on my VTR. Everything tastes just fine on my mvp2. I've looked to see "if I saw oil" down by the spinny piece, but I didn't see anything. Anyone else experiencing this? Anyone have a fix? I love the way the VTR looks and the way it feels, I'd love to enjoy the taste. Help, vapers!

P.s - I know it HAS to be the VTR. It's not wicks or juice. My hubby also confirms the funny taste, and confirms it is gone when switching to a different device.

Voltage or power settings?

I blamed the iClear 30s, probably unfairly, for the dry-ish, faint wick flavor. I don't think that's what you're describing, though. The VTR is at least a little different from the iTaste VV V3. It distinctly buzzes with the square wave PCM. Whatever effect that might have on flavor is likely imaginary, but that and the higher power levels are the differences that come to mind.

It doesn't matter if I'm running voltage or wattage. If I'm running voltage I'm usually around 3.8 - 4.0. If I'm running wattage, I don't ever vape higher than 4.5 watts. I thought it was the iclear 30 as well, but unfortunately I still get a horrid taste from my carto as well. I had read somewhere on here about oil being down in the little thing that helps get tanks in and out, but i took a flashlight and looked and didn't see anything down there. I'm puzzled and want to enjoy my VTR so badly, it's so beautiful!

It's not a burnt taste. It's like a chemical/plastic-y taste? It's not over powering, but it's definitely there. I'm at a complete loss for words. My husband thought I was crazy until he tried it and then put it on his mod. Vapes fine on other devices, tastes like ... on the VTR. :(

I just smelled by the center pin and it smells EXACTLY like what I taste. I'm convinced that there is oil or something down there. Anyone else experienced this? Has anyone taken the VTR apart and tried cleaning it out? Someone please confirm that I'm not crazy and that this is fixable!

I've decided to email innokin about the issue. I've tried multiple tanks, wicks, cartos, everything and it's the same result. With the cone adapter, it's not nearly as strong but it's still there. It's not just the iclear 30s. It's everything that you put on the VTR. When you have bearings, such as the VTR has at the bottom "to help screw tanks on" - the manufactures have to put oil on those bearings in order for them to move. Before I got the VTR, I was reading about people experiencing this issue, but I can't find those threads again. I don't know if they ever figured the issue out or what they did, but I'd love to find out more information about it. I feel like this is a QC issue and should have been thought about before people go out and drop $120 on a mod that is going to taste horrible. Not only that, but is there an issue with inhaling whatever substance it is that is down there? This is why the FDA has issues with e-cigarettes, and mistakes like this is what will cause us to lose this battle. Okay, end rant. I just want an answer so I can vape my precious.

Try cleaning out the 510 connector with a cotton swap and some alcohol. That might fix it...

What other mods are you using where you don't get the nasty flavor?

Not only 3 different MVP v2's, but a few ego winders and a provari as well. I have tried cleaning the connection, but I did not try with alcohol. I might try this to see if it'll make a difference.

How does the VTR get its airflow?

I know there were some boxmods in the past which had some airflow actually coming THROUGH the box itself. Aside from the safety issues of a venting battering blowing into your atty, there is also the possibility of any offgassing inside the boxmod making its way into your vapor.

Personally, I'd stop using it immediately until you can track down the cause. Cleaning the connector, and anything close to it with some alcohol would be a good starting point, if that doesn't fix it I'd make sure there is no possible way airflow is making its way from inside the mod itself, into the connector, and into your atty causing off-flavors.

Uncle chuck - airflow comes from where the tank and center battery post come together rather than from the device itself. I'm not using it, I've emailed innokin explaining my problem. It's definitely oil/grease on the barring of the spin-y piece that helps you screw your tanks on. Really disappointed, but I refuse to smoke out of it. I've tried cleaning it, and every other possible issue it could be and it still tastes awful. Thanks for the help guys! I'm just sticking with my mvp2! :)

Well that sucks! I dont usually like box mods but I have a friend that has a VTR and it looked great, even the new fangled iclear with no wicks showing and all the neato holes in the center tube. If it makes you feel better I finally switched to Provari as my vv mod (even though im mainly a mech user I always have to have atleast 1 nice vv) after my svd has decided only it gets to choose with I can vape from now on (unless I wanna hold the button down with alot of pressure then it always works) I say lets get some tickets to China, roll up on Innokin Headquarters like duece deep and burn that mother down.......... yep

The Clock Barrens, Fillory
Interest for the iTaste VTR All Metal Box Mod - Page 44

This is from the last post on the page:

"My VTR gives me a definite chemical taste in the vape on multiple tanks, that the same tank & juice don't have when used on the SID, VAMO, or Twists. After a while I recognized it as the same funky smell I've had with other Chinese electronics.. like circuit board cleaner residue . It's slowly going away, but maybe mine got a better final cleaning or something."

Emailed innokin and they said that they were passing my email along and would look into it. I sold it. I'm happy with that decision. The guy was happy with it and I hated it. I'll be doing lots of research before i invest in my next mod. Until then, my trusty mvp hits like a champ! And I'm okay with that too. I've decided my next endeavour will be an rba. Just wanna get some good flavors going on (although I love the flavor from my carto).
