iTaste VV v3.0 + Kanger Mini Protank-II + 1.8 ohm Coil and new burnt taste

Hi!

I have been using the iTaste VV 3 for a couple months now, the whole time with a Mini Protank 2 and 1.8 ohm coil set at 3.5 volts on the VV. I have been using this with no problems, the taste has been good and everything has been working out great.

I recently switched to juice with menthol added in (I use 16% nic) for a couple of weeks now. It has been tasting great up until last night. I cleaned out my tank and opened a new box of 1.8ohm coils and put one in, dropped in the juice and my first draw was just as burnt tasting as I have ever tasted . I was already at 3.5 volts, but I went ahead and dropped it down to 3.3 (lowest voltage) to see what would happen, the burnt taste was less noticable but still there.

So I put in a new coil from the same box, and the same thing happened, extremely burnt taste on the first draw (I did make sure to let the wick get good and saturated first).

So then I took to the interent and found a post that recommended to flip the little rubber grommet that slides over the top of the coil and down to the wick material (flipping it over exposes more of the wick to more juice than normal), so I tried that and it made a difference for the first couple of draws, but the burnt taste came back.

So then I switched the iTaste VV for my wife's to see if it was just my VV, but the same taste was coming through. As a last resort I switched back to one of those cheap eGO starter vaporizers just to see what would happen.........and no burnt taste.

So I used that all day and never had a burnt taste, but as soon as I switched back to the iTaste VV, the burnt taste was back.

My wife's iTaste VV with her own Mini Protank II (same coil unit) has no burnt taste, but as soon as I put my tank on her VV it tastes burnt.

Now I've heard of menthol juices maybe clogging the wick, but I have been using this same juice (from the same bottle) without consequence for over a week. The only difference is the new coil units. But it seems unlikely that an entire box of 5 coil units would all be bad, as I have tried 2 of them ($3 a pop its kinda hard to just go through all of them)..........I just dont know, what do you guys think?

This is interesting. I owned a iTaste VV 3 as well and experienced the same thing with my Kanger coils. They didn't taste burnt at the same voltage on a regulated mod.

When I took apart my VV I saw that there was a wire disconnected from the circuit board. It was causing my mod to act very erratic and was possibly the cause of the burnt coils. I'm not aware of the commonality of something like that happening, but I wouldn't suggest trying to open up your mod unless that's your last option.

Feels like its been ages since i've asked this...lol, but have you tried opening up a head and removing a flavor wick to improve wicking?

-fraychek thanks! I'll check back to see if they get more in stock, that is a lot cheaper!

-bm2112 yeah I wondered about something like that because I have dropped mine a couple times, but it also happens on my wife's VV, but only with the current tank setup I have (her tank setup she is using doesn't have the burnt taste), but I do appreciate the additional option if things don't work out.

-xtwosmokesx Yeah I tried that as well, it seemed like it worked for a few draws, but then the taste came back.

Well, just a few hours ago, I took a pretty deep draw from the eGo and I tasted a slight burnt taste. So I just figured at that point the eGo was just too weak compared to the iTaste VV to create the burnt taste on a regular basis, but it must be the coil. So I tried the rest of the coils in that 5 pack and everyone of them tasted burnt.

I went out and got another 5 pack of coils and put the tank back on the iTaste and there is now no burnt taste at all......So it definitely was just a bad pack of coils?? how crazy is that?

It really bums me that I spent $15 on a faulty pack of coils, but hey, what can you do...

Thanks for everyone's input!
