Hi Guys, I have severe dermatitis and it started after 8 months in vaping. It might be vaping but it can be something else of course but all I know it doesn't want to heal up for now I'm suffering from it for nearly 7 months. It some kind of rash but not quite itchy, it covers my face my skin peels off and having small red spots. It's rather burning feeling than itchy. The dermatologist told me it's dermatitis combined with sensitive skin and she gave me a cream that radically cleared them up but for two weeks only now it does nothing major but calms it a bit. I don't wish to use that cream for too long because it contains steroid and can do a lot of damage to the body as well. I'm just wondering if anyone had similar problem? I'm still vaping 80%PG and 20%VG. I've tried 100%VG but I didn't like plus there was no significant changes according to my skin problems. My skin used to be oily and had acne but I've never ever experienced such harsh skin condition before.

I am not convinced it is the PG.
I have also been diagnosed with Eczema for the first time in my life. It seems it may be associated to vaping somehow.
I took steroids for a week and now it's all cleared up.
The itching was unbearable.
There are a few of us who have developed this, but we cannot prove its caused by vaping.

If you are having such a problem , I would try to switch to a different kind. Or stop it all together. Talk to you doctor about it...call them company ect.

I have no idea if any of these rashes are from vaping.

I had multiple occurrences of severe rashes like this about a decade ago. I was sent to multiple specialists to be checked for lupus and other things. There was no firm diagnosis, the rashes just stopped and have never recurred.

When I was smoking, pretty much everything I had was blamed on smoking (or, it wouldn't be so bad if you didn't smoke). Now it's vaping. Feels like there's no winning. Maybe I need a little of whatever Charlie Sheen is having.

I was getting a dermatitis type thing on my eyelids and I know I had an incident where I had spilled juice and some got on my hands and maybe I got it on me. But I was also getting a soar throat (just got first e-cig) and I stopped and things felt better. I ordered some 100% vg from cignot and I hope things will be ok. I just realized I had used a new soap so that is a possibility too. But anyways I had to boil my cig2o cartos and I am going to try to fill them. I just hope I can use them without reacting to maybe anything left over in them... I am low on funds or else I would buy empty cartos. I am smoking analogs now and just really want to settle this and be able to vape. I believe there needs to be studies done with these, but just don't want to hear that they are being banned and etc. The thing is it seems to be hard to pin point things as it could be PG/VG or flavorings, etc. Good luck everyone... I wish there was a store I could go to because I just hate waiting for mail to come especially when I have no way to vape until then. And who knows if I can safely vape with my boiled cartos... :( stress

I am going to add to this because I searched "face rash" and this thread is what has popped up. I almost to my second month of vaping and a fine, itchy rash has developed on my face and neck. I feel itchy too. I am thinking there is something about vaping that has created this. My eye area was dry and puffy yesterday, too. I vape less than 3mg per day of primarily PG juice and have only recently (in the last week) developed this issue. I am so bummed. I am going to try to make my own VG blend with some DIY supplies I have and see if it helps. In the meantime, I am chewing Nicorette gum...:(

I posted this on another thread, will repost here as its relevant:

Hello. Wow it took me 2 days to get through this thread. But I'm glad I did.

I quit smoking analogs June 6th, I wasn't a real heavy smoker. Half a pack a day. I took to vaping like a duck to water. I really love it, and all the flavors! Like a kid in a candy store. I also love the money saved. MMM Blueberry Cobbler Gaaaaaaah!

Unfortunately I have developed a hive like rash on my chest the past month. I didn't make the connection to vaping right away and blamed it on stress, heat, etc. I went to my doctor for a physical and while I was there she noticed the rash. I asked if it looked like hives and she asked if it was itchy. The rash really isn't that itchy. I have moments of feeling itchy all over, but the rash itself wasn't really. She noted that the rash is only over the area of my chest where my lungs are situated. We chatted a bit about what I have been eating or doing lately, and the subject of ecigs came up.

It was determined that the rash gets very red and inflamed looking when I vape, have a shower or bath, or get overheated. Ok...... I don't want to hear that this may have anything to do with vaping because I'm not willing to give it up. I love it, and it helped me to quit analogs. She supports the changes that I have made to improve my health, but did mention that a small percentage have reported allergic reactions to PG in the juices. I have never been allergic to anything so far in my life, so maybe I was in denial for awhile and she did point that out to me when I got a tad defensive with her.

Anyway, long story short, I have been talking to a friend on another ecig forum who pointed me towards a supplier who also had a bad reaction to PG, and he is very diligent about making sure his juices are 100% VG. I have ordered some butterscotch 0 nic juice from him and am excited to get it and try my hand at refilling. I am kind of freaked out about that batting stuff in my carts, so have been looking into those stainless steel ones without it, I always felt weird about puffing til I get a burnt flavor. This CAN'T be good for us!

I want to keep this post as close to factual as I can as I saw what happened to others who posted their health issues in other threads.

I asked my doc if the hive like rash could possibly be a side effect of quitting tobacco and she said no.
She suggested I stop vaping immediately to see if the symptoms go away. I had already done this a few days at a time before my appt and knew that the rash did slowly disappear when I didn't vape for 3 to 4 days. But I did it again for her records and she noted that after a week the rash was gone.

Notes were also made that I have been eating the same way for the past 10 yrs. I am a very low carber. I eat greens and protein. And stay away from sugar. I mentioned the fact that sucralose is in many flavors of juice to her, and she said that because I already use splenda in my morning coffees and the odd crystal light I consume once or twice a week, that the rash is not from it either. Although she did mention allergy testing of various things are down the pike for me to be sure of all of this.

So to wrap this all up. I am SO grateful that ecigs were invented. I never thought I would be able to quit this easily. I love vaping and my flavors and I pray that the VG juice will solve my problem for me. I don't plan on vaping forever. But for now, it really is enjoyable to me. If it turns out that VG gives me the same rash. Then I am going to let my doc run the allergy tests on me. How could it be possible to be allergic to both?

Cross your fingers for me. I am vape free til my Butterscotch VG juice gets here. Might be chewing on a few pens til it gets here lol

I have been reading so many mixed reactions to vaping and tried hard to find something similar to my symptoms or rather little annoyance.

I'll give it a go and see if anyone else can point me or help me in some direction.

I've only been vaping for 2 weeks now and with my research ordered 80/20 PG/VG flavored 0 nic juices.

I don't get any itching, rash, nausea or anything else associated with some peoples reactions to PG or even lactic acid production.

What I do get is some feeling of bloating but mostly abdominal cramping.

It isn't too severe, and its more welcome than smelling and tasting like an ashtray even though I was a very light clove smoker (2-4/day or 4-6 on the weekend with a few beers)

I stopped vaping for 2 days to see if it was just the vaping that was causing it and the symptoms subsided.

I started up again and they returned.

I then ordered some 100% VG juice to cut my 80/20's though I may have overstepped my thinking.

I didn't do much exact measuring my first time cutting so I'm asking if I am on the right path to resolving this cramping issue and if so what are the best cuts?

Should I just start with 20-30 drops of my 80/20 and then add 10 drops at a time of the 100%VG till my vaping experience is ideal?

I feel I'm the blind leading the blind with little information across the web and even here. (Sorry there is so much on ECF to search through yet I'm still digging)

If anyone can relate and help it would be tremendously appreciated.

I don't want to go back to analogues, regardless of how much of a light smoker I was.

I'm enjoying this very much and the juices have been a wonderful complement to my in house better smelling life.

Thank in advance to all who can help. :)

I had a rash develop all over my body from ecigs after about 2 months of use. I have since went back to regular cigs and never looked back to ecigs. I plan to just quit cigs cold turkey. I liked e-cigs, but it's not worth getting a rash like I got. My doctor said it looked like Pityriasis Rosea which the cause of is unknown. Actually, I'm pretty sure the cause is e-cigs. I won't touch another e-cig until there is more research and until a rash-free eliquid is produced.

So sorry to hear that.
Curiosity had me googling "Pityriasis Rosea" and it seems there are many possible causes or at least theories?
It's possible that there are many unknown viruses that can cause a multitude of conditions. Viruses are hard to pinpoint.
I just have to wonder if by quitting smoking, especially for those of us who have smoked for many years, whether it opens us up to being vulnerable to contracting or developing a variety of illnesses?
After all our bodies are going through a radical change trying to get itself back into a "normal' balance.
It seems logical that this might for a time weaken our immune system? My theory anyway.
I imagine it would be very frightening to get a rash like that, and to be honest I probably would have done the same thing and quit, but I think it's worth considering the possibility that each of our experiences and the way our bodies react to quitting alone can be drastically different.
Throw in possible sensitivities to flavours or liquids or even PV components and it's no wonder that we have such a myriad of different accounts here in the health section.
I wish you well in your quest to quit tobacco. This may not have worked for you but perhaps something else will.

I'm so glad I found this thread, I just got my kit in yesterday and began vaping away, I started with Nicotine Nirvana's fire and ice juice and took probably 10 puffs and then moved on to Vapor Bombs 70 VG 30 PG "New Pineapple" and took about 5 puffs.....

I woke up in the middle of the night itchy like a crackhead and thought I had a few bug bites, so I put some cortizone on them and took some benadryl only to wake up this morning with HIVES all up and down my legs, all over my elbows, and they are slowly just taking over my body. They itch like nobodies business....I am unsure why this happened. I tried a friends PV and she was vaping NN fire&ice and I took probably 20 puffs and had zero problems so I don't know :(

I went to the doctor today for the hives though and he said it's too hard to tell what is the cause but told me no more vaping and gave me a steroid Rx along with an Rx for Hydroxyzine and Zantac (which this one is kinda weird to me but after researching its often used for hives)

My question to you guys is what do you think couldve caused this? I wrote NN to see what the pg/vg ratio is because on their site it says all juices are made with a ratio ranging from "60% PG/40% VG to 80% PG/20% VG" but I had no reaction to this when I tried my friends PV :/

Needless to say I am super bummed to get my PV yesterday only to get hives today ANNND I'm super itchy lol

Hey guys.I just had a thought. What PV's are you using? Perhaps it's a nickel allergy?
I only use the cartomisers or clearomisers now because the workings inside those apparently don't contain nickel.
I know that years ago I bought a necklace that gave me a terrible itchy rash on my chest and we figured out then that I must have an allergy to nickel.
If you think this may be it then do a search here on ecf for nickel allergy.

Its amazing how many people have issues with PG. And I see a great deal of threads with people getting hives and other side effects from VG. Do a search, you will be shocked. The people who have no issues with inhaling these things, can't even imagine what the heck we are complaining about. I'd be in my happy little vape world too if I wasn't experiencing it firsthand. Never had an allergy in my life. Now PG allergy from inhalation when I hardly vape at all.

Nice

I react badly to Pg. I get hives, rashes and big painful red welts. I was OK for the first few weeks or so after I started vaping but with repeated exposure I became more on more intolerant. Now I vape all Vg and am much better. There is still some Pg in most of the flavorings but it is not usually enough for me to get a reaction, YMMV. I also added a daily allergy pill to help keep it that way. Since I was a child I have always had sensitivity to soaps, lotions, detergents and shampoos but never realized that it was the Pg in them making me itchy until my reaction with vaping. Now I try to avoid all products with Pg in them and my skin is much happier! :)

Another post for all the people on this thread who are getting itchy for Pg. VelvetVapors carries a line of completely Pg free (even the flavorings are pg free). If it is the Pg you are reacting to these Pg-free nicquids should help. I have a ton of food, environmental and chemical allergies; I am allergic to more of the world then not. You usually use process of elimination to determine what you are reacting to. There are only a few thing in nicquids so it should be fairly easy to determine what you are reacting to. It's either the Pg, the Vg, the nicotine or the flavorings. A calm thought out process of elimination should help you pin-point what you are reacting to. (BTW benedryl works wonders for itchy hives). Also If you are experiencing head-ache, fever, tightness of breath, or anything more serious then itchiness go to your doctor or ER immediately. A serious allergic reaction can kill you. I'm not trying to scare anyone just make you aware of the possibility of a severe reaction. I'm not a Dr just someone with lots of allergies, one of them being Pg. I hope you all find a nicquid you can use safely without ichiness! :)
