I cant read all of it aal. But is boiling able to remove any chemicals? And even if it can (I really doupt), the chemicals stay inside water and get boiled together with cotton. Am I right on this?

The chemicals stay on top. You empty the water before removing the cotton. This is how I do it. And how everyone tells me to do it. Some people don't even boil cotton. It is really a debatable subject.

Regarding the thread the first post is about the silica and particles. But I don't think is a big deal.

Those using organic cotton balls, some do boil it others do not. Some say the cotton balls are easier to work with after boiling.

The S-n-C yarn needs adequate pre-boiling (20 minutes approx) to make it inert. Some recommend boiling twice ~ initial boiling (with some salt added into it) for 10 minutes, then rinse it and a reboil with regular water for another 10 minutes. This pretty much makes it inert out of the pan... and whatever cottony is left - wears out in about 5-6 draws.

so boiling cotton chemicals stay on top of the water? What chemicals exist on the cotton? Who measured their gravity? These chemicals dont dilute on water? These chemicals only need 100 Celsius degrees to get away from cotton?
Aal, I am sorry but these techniques are for children if you agree. Its not your fault but a fault of the persons that say what ever comes to their mind.
Because we cant fire cotton, we can just boil it and its ok?

Anyway..........

I never had a problem with silica on vaping and I think many people didnt too fright. I also have never vape cotton but I am sure that you are right. I only disagree on what cotton can do to us. Noone knows what is going on with cotton.

It is easy to see why mesh is not good but its difficult to talk about cotton. We dont really know

Imeo, a lot of things in vaping we take as is. Boiling is just a way to reduce the risk if it exists. I'm no expert. Anyway some people think that mesh is the safest. Andeeven silica how do we know it doesn't have chemicals applied to it. What studies were done on silica.

There have been several studies done on silica including RoHS compliance but none on organic cotton as far as I'm aware aal. The issue here is a psychological one as far as users are concerned. We are all ex-smokers and have a inherent belief that since we stopped the ultimate evil (smoking) everything else is very much a lesser evil. This belief is actually quite wrong, many things can cause serious damage. We have to be careful because many aspects of vaping are very much still an unknown.
Just keep an open mind friends and don't trust everything you hear or the latest rave.

Thanks for posting this,it's good to know.
I guess it will take many more years to establish a well proven data on all side effect the
Bad and the good ones, regarding materials use in vaping.
Who knows.
They way to be on safe side for know maybe use only food grade safety materials.
Like 304 SS glass products less plastic as we can and less coper or brass as we can.
We don't see cotton as food grade material I think, and maybe it's not harming
But without establish vaping recommended products and materials (by science research),
We can only really trust the food grade authorized materials.
If one want to be on the safe side better to be susceptive regarding new hypes.
There those who don't care for such yet create extreme ways every days for vaping
And this should stay as so.
Extreme is for those who want and willing to take the risk or the time to learn to control
The risks.
Vaping for me is part of every day like eating or drinking and I don't extreme those,
So no need for me to extreme vaping.
Now I don't say cotton is extreme in any way just say that what we know for now is not enough
For any final conclusion, and probably were not close to such yet

Any other US sources for good silica wick? I usually buy 2 mm and 3.5 mm from COV but they don't always have the right sizes. I have plenty of 3 mm as well, and can remove strands if needed.

Just wondering for future when I need to order more 2mm and 3.5mm, as it is nice just to have the exact size I want. I had heard lightning vapes is good, any thoughts or other suggestions?

Thanks

I tried a couple of different setups with 28g micro coil and cotton, all had burnt taste. I don't know if it was the cotton or the coil. I will test more with that later.
I ended up using 3mm silica 2X at the coil and single 3mm - 2 strands down the channels. I used the 1.5 ribbon ready wire and gave an extra wrap of the nr around wick. This setup is working Great. Open easy draw and lots of flavor. I have the mouthpiece open about 4-5 turns and no flooding or gurgling at all. This setup is set it and forget it. No tweaking or adjusting necessary, just vape-vape-vape. Using on JGG and air control closes air off almost 100%.
It is getting very hard to pick which is my favorite atomizer/ setup. Loving all of the new stuff.
