MrKrinkle originally inveted that method to use the Nextel XC-116 ceramic wick without the need to mod the ceramic (XC-116 is fat):

ditto - I do not understand without wick in the channels why it doesn't leak.?
Because the connector´s pin o-ring seals that part, I mean, even using wick in channels, there will be liquid in that little "chamber":
When ceramic assembly is installed in Odysseus base there will be a chamber (where the positive connection nut resides) and that chamber is sealed with the o-ring, that's why (when using wick in ceramic channels) the wick shouldn't pass the O-Ring, because it could happen that some wick could get trapped between the O-Ring and Odysseus base, causing a gap, so liquid will leak through that gap.
I think that most of the Odysseus leaking problems are through the center pin: liquid goes inside ceramic cup and leak will occur because liquid will travel out through the center pin.
When there are leaks, It is difficult to determinate if the leaking comes through the center pin or because the O-Ring is not sealing properly because you will see the liquid is coming out by the connector.
(excuse my english, sometimes it is difficult for me to explain in english
