It's been two days... I don't want to smoke, but damn I watched a cig.

I used 2 different "cheats" to quit.

Higher nic quitting

When I was trying to quit I used a cheap clearomizer/tank with the next higher nic in it. When the "itch" got to where the regular vape wasn't scratching it I would hit the higher nicotine tank once and go back to the regular nic vape. It usually took from 3 days to a week to get adjusted to the lower nicotine level. I said usually because I used this same technique to reduce my nicotine content in steps from the high level down to the under 3mg I now enjoy.

Morning Cig.

I kept one flavor of juice just for the mornings. Instead of reaching for the cig in the mornings I knew I had the one flavor juice I enjoyed waiting on me (a blueberry muffin type). After the morning vape I would not use this flavor for the rest of the day. What this did was to give me something to look forward to every morning instead of the cig.

Relax. At any point in time, just let yourself decide whether you are going to smoke or whether you're going to vape.
If you decide to smoke, wait for 2 minutes; if you still have that craving, smoke. Don't beat yourself up over it.
If you decide to vape, vape away.

The magic of vaping is that, unlike other quitting methods, you CAN fall off the wagon, but then get right back on.

I'll repeat what I've read here in the forums MANY times. Don't count the ones you smoke, count the ones you didn't.

I was a 2 pack a day smoker for 45 years. I knew I wouldn't quit immediately when I started vaping but when I took that first puff on my first mod I was convinced that it had the power I needed to do the job. When I started vaping around noon on a Sunday I had 6-7 cigs left. Smoked the last one the next morning. I made it thru 24 hours without a smoke for the first time in DECADES before I went and got a pack. That pack lasted 3 whole freaking days! Then I went 3 days before I bought my LAST PACK. I have to admit a bit of disappointment that time, but that pack lasted 5 days and I haven't had a smoke since they ran out. Over 2 months now.

Once again, if you know you're gonna quit don't sweat the ones you smoke. Empower yourself by counting the ones you didn't!

It took me a month to wean from smoking/dual use to all-vape. I would never have attempted to just stop smoking suddenly, tried that a lot in the past, it never works. When I had just one cig a day for 3 days in a row, I figured if I could deal with just one smoke a day, I could probably deal just fine without it.

So I have been sucking on 18ml for two days but I still have this feeling... I think it's all the habits involved with smoking... but how have you del with the SWITCH.?

I tried different samples of juice until I found one I really liked. I liked it better than the taste of a reg cig. I didn't smoke in my home so being able to sit and watch tv and not have to get up and go outside was big for me as well. I found a PV that gave me the throat hit I needed and adjusted the recipe of the juice to provide the cloud so I could get the satisfaction of feeling like I was really smoking. Stick with it! You can make the switch and I promise you will be glad. Best of luck.

I really believe this all boils down to a person's stress levels, chemistry, environmental stimuli and a whole host of other factors. These factors vary from person to person. I was given strong advise when I first started to vape, to break down and have that stink stick if the urge got real annoying and so forth. I just guess I am one of those bull headed types, because when I very first started vaping, I quit smoking cigarettes right on the spot. I am certainly no "hero" or anything like that. In my case, I firmly believe that I had such a desire to quit death sticks, that no pain or withdrawals in the world was going to stop me. My point is, we are all different in a lot of ways. Individuals with individual needs. As others have said, I would just quit at your own speed and certainly not beat yourself up if you smoke a cigarette here and there or just whatever. In my case, about all I can really say here in total honesty, is the more I craved cigarettes, the harder I leaned on my vape unit. Everyday that goes by, it just keeps getting easier for me and I am sure the same thing will happen with you. Good luck on your journey and pack some faith around > :sneaky:

Took me a month to completely transition. I never put a time frame on myself, it just happened gradually. The last two nights, I was only able to choke down a couple of puffs off a traditional cigarette. The third night, I decided it really wasn't worth that nasty taste in my mouth before bed and didn't light it up.

That was October 4, 2012. When I woke up the next morning I was a non-smoker. :)

I joined the forum the day I started vaping, after reading a ton!!!!

Give yourself time. Do not beat yourself up and as was stated, count the ones you don't have, not the ones you do ;)

I smoked for 30 years and have been tobacco free for a month now. I started with a 24mg tobacco flavor juice to try and head off any serious withdrawal while getting used to vaping and it's worked pretty well for me. I spent the first week with a vape in my hand most of the day. Even if I wasn't actively vaping it helped to have something to do with my hands. I keep that 24mg handy for mornings (ugh mornings, lol) but am working my way down to 18mg for the rest of the day. I've started exploring different flavors but I find that having the tobacco flavor really helps me with those unexpected trigger moments. Hang in there and keep exploring until you find the balance that works for you! And like the others said, be kind to yourself during the process.

It's weird you know !, when i smoked i didn't give a __uk about shrinking gums, eroding jawbone, smelling like a hobo and all that delightful stuff that goes with smoking tobacco.

Now, now i feel like i've been cured of a mental health issue. I can't believe i used to smoke that disgusting tasting crap. In contrast the vaping thing tastes like, well, whatever i want it to, given the flavours that are available. And i do laugh at people who search for flavours similar to tobacco, there aren't any !.
