What a refreshing post!

I also have not saved any money. (Doesn't help that i did RYO cigarettes before vaping).

But,
Browsing ECF helps me stay away from the butts.
Buying vape gear (and believe you me, I do!) helps me stay away from the butts.
I would be embarrassed to show my collection of vape gear to anyone, it's really excessive. No, it's really sincerely excessive.
Still, it's less than I've spent on cigs for the wife and daughter over the last 1.5 years, so there! (Cigs are $10/pack here).
I still smoke a bit, but I mostly vape. And I love it. (And I probably spent more both when I got into RC airplanes, and Welding, and I can't fly an RC plane without crashing it, nor can I weld anything decently, so I got that going for me!)

So the one quality metric for vaping I have decided to pointedly ignore is whether it's saving me money. It makes me happy, it makes me healthier, I learned a lot here on ECF, and met some great people here. Worth it, to me at least.

In the beginning, I was saving money. I had broken even and was in the black. I was happy with my MVP and Mini Protank 2. Then Kanger released the Subtank and Innokin upgraded my favorite box mod (MVP) to 20 watts. I was sold. I had no idea on how much flavor I was missing out on. The combination of 19 watts and a 1.2 coil in the RBA section of the Subtank Mini. This taught me that there was more than just big clouds to these sub ohm and low ohm vapers. This also leaves me wondering what more I am missing. I read about people getting even more flavor at 25-30 watts. This lead me into looking for a replacement for my trusty little MVP. While the MVP 3.0 was an option, it just wasn't what I was looking for. Finally, with some help of people here, I was introduced to the Vapor Shark rDNA 40. I ordered it today.

So, my 3 to 4.5 ml of e-liquid per day is now triple that. My $40 battery is now a $200 battery. E-liquid costs alone can equal what I was paying for cigarettes.

New hobby = expensive. Not inhaling smoldering processed tobacco = priceless :)

Why go so expensive on the battery? I just ordered me a sub tank mini. lol. To go with an an istick 30w for 33 bucks.

Anyone who's been vaping for a while knows its a money pit. But you will find after 6 months or so that the newest device is not always better. Or marginally better at best. Try and set yourself a budget of say $50-$100 a month and stick to it. You don't have to buy every new device out there - today. Normally if you wait a month or two a second or third improved version comes to market.

My favourite atomizer at the moment is an Orchid V6 clone for $10.

Yeah i set myself a budget with my tax check for 150 bucks on vaping stuff. I did well. I got my new setup, some coils and a bunch of juices. Also ordered a new drip tip. I only went over my budget by 32 cents I think. So I did well. lol. The trick is to actually look around and price things so you can try to find the best deals. Also as you say newer isn't always better.

Take a look at any DNA 40 device. You will understand why. The first big change was variable voltage. Then came variable wattage. Now, just as we are getting comfortable with the watt race, Evolv introduces Temperature Control. It will likely be the next game changer for the vaping world. Additionally, with all of the "formaldehyde" hype, the DNA 40 is the perfect answer to shove in the media's face.

I know those go for a lot. But honestly unless your using coils you make yourself your not going to want anything over 30 watts on a sub-tank. Stock coils your burn up fast with anything higher. That is why so many people are complaining about their coils only lasting a week. Others I have talked to who keep them around 23-25 watts have theirs last 2 weeks to a couple months. Also if your on a budget and can't afford to spend as much, your better off going with an Istick 30w. I got mine for 33. The istick 50w is only 50. Now if you can afford to spend more on a DNA 40, then yeah go for it. But don't complain about the price either. Also a lot of people complaining about spending too much money are people who can't seem to control their spending. The trick is to force yourself to only buy yourself new year once or twice a year. Do it as a way to reward yourself for not smoking and for all you saved. Now I am one that has to watch what I spend. Even if I didn't though I wouldn't be going and blowing new money on a new mod constantly like some people do. Not trying to insult anyone. Just how I feel on this subject.

Welp, Grimwald, there's always "The more you buy on sale, the more you save!" reasoning. :p I use that one quite a bit; and, of course, if there's a birthday, anniversary or just some special day nearby, hubby is especially happy that he doesn't have to shop!

My problem is my wife does not consider vaping supplies as presents. She says they are appliances. And we all know that appliances are not presents.

I've been married for nearly 40 years and I can't buy vaping stuff for Valentines Day. Still flowers and jewelry. I think we need a national holiday...Vapegiving...yeah, that's it. Maybe sometime in August. There aren't any holidays in August.

Call it National Vape Day, International Vape Day, Global Vape Day or just plain Vape Day. All those work. Hell if all them potheads get 4/20 for their holiday let us have our own. lol

Chocolate covered Strawberry Ejuice is not a appliance. This is a appliance. Did you loose a post screw in there again Grim?

I think I'd probably cry if I found out how much I've spent on vaping stuff over the years. I don't keep a tab of it just so I can't look back and weep. Well, we all justify it with "Vaping is healthier than smoking and my health is priceless!" In reality, we probably don't need 10 different mods and tanks and 50 bottles of juice or whatever... but hey if you enjoy it and you can afford it, I don't see a problem with it. But I have a lot of stuff that I don't use and I bought it just to see if it was better than what I was currently using or vaping... and I would have a LOT of extra money right now if I could magically return those things for the same price I got it for. Everytime I buy something new, I tell myself "Ok, thats it!! I do not need more stuff, this is more than enough and anything extra is just excess." But then... I just can't help myself when something really cool and new and better comes out. That's vape life for ya!

I thought I was saving money but I just had to order enough stock for 8 month supply of any flavor I want at the time. Oh and I had to finally buy an authentic mod and rda... Mutation X v3 w/ MutationX mod for $80 :D I should be set for a while. That paired up with Vanilla clone w/ Patriot rda clone, Sigelei 100 watt w/Kanger Sub Tank, MVP 2.0 w/ Mini Nautilus and 2 Vision II spinners w/ Kanger Aero Tank. Now I have to wait until end of May to break even ;) Only saving $55 / month.... darn those cheap cigars.

I don't know what is going on here!

I started vaping with a $100 investment. In the first month I spent another $100 with GAS. Now, after a year, I am using the stuff I bought for the original $100 - same batteries, same cartomizers. What, pray tell, are you spending your money on?

you are very fortunate that what you started with worked for you. Of course there is way better stuff out there now than there used to be. I'm probably fortunate that I can't spend much, or shinyitis would get me for sure. But even if I did spend a lot on my vape stuff, I would consider it money well spent.

jup........we do need a holiday!!! But I'd love it if I could get my son to get me vape stuff for my birthday or Christmas! Don't want flowers, cuz even though I love them at first, I hate to watch em die. Don't wear jewelry. Don't like knick knacks. He likes to surprise me, but I'd much rather have something I really want and usually can't get.
