I've got some questions about the Smok Tech dual coil tanks....

First I should probably start off with a little background. And sorry, I tend to be rather long winded... Even though I have been vaping for almost a year, I still find that there is still a lot to learn. I started off with those skinny 510 battery's, carts and attys. Those were a hit and miss for me but usually nothing but troubles. Then I discovered cartomizers and Riva 1100mah batteries and haven't looked back. My favorite cartos are the Boge LR XL or the Smok Tech dual coil 1.5ohms and I have had very reliable performance out of both. I have since been also using the 900mah VV Ego battery and just bought my first Kgo kit which I also like a lot. On my cartos, I use both the condom method along with the taryn spin to fill them and have never gotten a burnt taste or a dud out of either brand. I have 2 favorite juice vendors that I have been using for awhile. Both of them are able to give me great flavors in the mostly VG juices I like. I went with mostly VG after having some issues that I am pretty sure were from vaping all or mostly PG juices. I like my setups and they work so well that I never had a desire to get into the box mods or HV vapers. However, I am really intrigued by the tanks. So I have several questions on them. I have about 9 flavors that I rotate through. I think this would be one of the reasons that I like the Smok Tech DC tank. What I have my eye on is the 3.5ml tanks.

Am I right in assuming that there is no wicking material in the tank other than the filling inside the punched cartos?

So if I am going to change flavors would I just clean out the tank and use a different punched carto for each different flavor? That would be very convenient.

And because my juices have a higher VG% (70-80%) is there a good chance I will have to enlarge the punch hole?

Would the performance and reliability of the Smok Tech punched cartos be equal to their regular dual coil cartos?

Is there a better option in tanks that would allow me to change between all my favorite flavors easily?

You are correct. It's just a carto stuck through a tank, with seals at the top and bottom.

So if I am going to change flavors would I just clean out the tank and use a different punched carto for each different flavor? That would be very convenient.

Yes, that would work fine.

And because my juices have a higher VG% (70-80%) is there a good chance I will have to enlarge the punch hole?

Opinions on this differ. Some people seem to be fine with heavy-VG juices with the small pre-punched hole. Others are up to as many as three large holes, or one or two dremel slots. It seems to depend on how you vape, among other factors.

Would the performance and reliability of the Smok Tech punched cartos be equal to their regular dual coil cartos?

They are the same cartos with a hole in them. Performance will be identical, except that if it's wicking correctly, every drag is like a just-topped-off carto. Reliability is increased because the coils are always wet -- again, if it's wicking properly.

Is there a better option in tanks that would allow me to change between all my favorite flavors easily?

Probably not. The ease of changing cartos and cleaning out the tank is tough to beat, although most people use a single tank for a single flavor to avoid constant fiddling. Remember, you'd have to either vape all the juice in the tank, or waste it when changing flavors (unless you want to try to pour it in a bottle or something, but again, that gets fiddly).

Good luck.

Cool, thank you. Now my interest is really building on these things. And as far as vaping all the juice in the tank, thats pretty much what I do with regular cartos right now anyway. I have several always loaded with each of the different flavors. I vape the entire carto, then I switch to the next one. and so on. So maybe having 2 or 3 tanks would be just the ticket, that way when one goes dry, I can quickly switch to the next one without having to clean the used one right away.

What are the chances though that the tank carto would get flooded if I fill one and set it off to the side while using another? Is there a proper way to store a filled tank or is it just best to fill prior to using it?

Just got my tank in 2 days ago, and I love it so far. Only complaint would be the sliding and having to be careful. With that said, I will soon be buying a jtank which will help me as far as that goes. The 3.5 ml tanks are supposed to be used with standard sized cartos, but IIRC the 5.5 works with DC cartos and the boge xl.

No wicking materials, but you may have to prime it by taking a drag without powering your PV in order to get the juice to flow in the carto. Especially with VG based juices.

So if I am going to change flavors would I just clean out the tank and use a different punched carto for each different flavor? That would be very convenient.

And because my juices have a higher VG% (70-80%) is there a good chance I will have to enlarge the punch hole?
I would say yes. I use 30% VG and I haven't had problems. I make sure to prime it from time to time when I sense that it is getting a bit dry. Either use a slightly bigger nail and punch right into the prepunch. Make sure not to penetrate too deep or you will ruin your carto. And don't use a big nail or you will run into flooding problems.

Would the performance and reliability of the Smok Tech punched cartos be equal to their regular dual coil cartos?
As long as the flow into your carto via the punch is working well it should work better than a regular carto since the filling should always be saturated and moist.

Is there a better option in tanks that would allow me to change between all my favorite flavors easily?
IMO if you like swapping flavors a lot I would buy one large tank (the 5ml) for your all day vape, and one or two smaller 3.5ml tanks for switching it up.

Also, make sure that you fill the carto up if it is brand new. You will run into less problems.

Well after seeing the mention of the J-Tank which I had not heard about before, I decided to do some quick research on them. I came across a review of each by PBusardo on youtube that had really great info on both. Smok Tech Tank Review and J-Tank Review I think after seeing the videos, I like the J-tank just a little more. It is almost double the price but seems to be a significantly more solid and have greater flexibility as far as cartos that can be used on it. I think the J Tank might be the better choice.

Don't know about the smok tech tank but I have several tanks that I have made and love the ease of just picking up whichever flavor I want. For about $2 for each tank was easy to make several so I have at least 3 flavors filled at any given time. I also like knowing there is no way I am running out of juice while I am out all 3 full are like 8 to 10ml of juice. Toss em all in my handy carrying case and I am a happy camper.

I have the Smok Tech DCT and really liking it.

I saw the Busardo review where the tank came off & juice spilled. It didn't deter me from getting one.

My tank is very snug on the carto. It's just common sense to not pick the PV up by the tank. I don't pick up my PVs by the carto either. I grab the batt, as I assume most people would.

It lays on it's side 24 hours a day, when I'm not vaping it. No leaks. I'd say it's a great value for the $, IMHO.

I did have to enlarge the hole because I use 100% VG juice. No biggie. Just used an adjustable wrench to hold the carto and tapped a fat, sharp screw with a hammer to make the hole a little bigger.

I'm now on my 2nd carto for it. A pre-punched single coil with flange. This time I enlarged the one hole and added another small one. That was a little too much. I should have done one or the other, not both. Live and learn. :)
