I didn't want to announce any intentions in case I made an ... of myself, but I've been off tobacco for a few days now.

The 20mg Virginia, as horrid as it is, is doing it's job of suppressing the cravings. I don't vape in the mornings, I breath my Janty Stick, sucking on it like a starving baby on a teat, but eventually, the nicotene levels build up and I can get back to normal. Normal means feeling a little bit ill on the stomach, but tolerable. Once nicotene levels are stabilised, I drip some low strength, high flavour Virginia as a reward to myself for enduring.

I saw myself as a smokaholic and have been totally unable to give up for near on 40 years, despite numerous attempts. I can confidently say to anyone wanting to quit smoking, vaping IS a viable alternative. The industry makes a point of not advertising vaping as a means to stop smoking, but I reckon it very definitely is, more so than any other stop-smoking product ever offered. The same nicotene and sensory signals are there, only the analog 'rush' is missing.

Thanks to all here for the part they played in my vaping education, the knowledge you impart on the forums is absolutely essential.

Congrats on being cig free Doug. Many of us struggled like you did. I also think e-cigs are the only option for me to stop smoking tobacco.

Keep experimenting with flavors. You'll eventually find 3 or so that you really enjoy. I've went to menthol in a higher nicotine for the 'rush' and throat hit of smoking (even though I never smoked menthol cigarettes). It helps replace that feeling for me, especially first thing in the morning and now I've cut back the nicotine level (almost 8 months cig free!).

I too don't think I could have ever quit smoking without e-cigs. I've smoked for 40 years and could never even get myself to try to quit. Until I heard about the e-cig. I received my order, put my cigs in the cubbard and never looked back. It's been 5 days but I'm already pretty confidant that analog cigs are out of my life for good.!

Try that with gum or patches! If there were cigarettes around any other time I tried to quit, I'd eventualy break down and smoke them. I've been using the e-cig for 7 months and still have a pack of Winstons unsmoked.

There seems to be a lot of us that smoked for 40 years. I smoked 3 packs a day and have never been able to quit for a day except when I was in the hospital. Soon as I walked out the hospital I lit up. I have been smoke free for 7 months and don't plan on ever going back.

For me it was 37 years - and I'm confident that I will never smoke again as long as e-cigs are available to me.

It really IS a miracle.

Oh noooo! Tragedy! Catastrophe!! My Janty Stick died over the weekend, possible atty or battery failure, leaving me vapeless!!

Took it in to the store today and they gave me a new one, but obviously with no charged batteries. Tried vaping whilst charging which is a nice feature of the Stick, but ....horror!!! The new one is faulty and won't charge the battery and with zero charge, zero vapour. I even called my new supplier and was willing to buy an M201 from him to fill the gap, but his stocks were held up by Customs. I'll have to go back to the store tomorrow and try again. They had no product knowledge and no means of testing in-store, so I'll take everything with to test myself.

In the meantime, being unable to go without a fix for 2 days, I reverted to the dreaded analogs.

Actually, while this sounds really, really bad, it's not. It's quite a good thing in fact. The 'analog ghost' has been hanging around since I quit, trying to tempt me back and smoking a few today was perhaps a necessity but also a surprise, they tasted awful and made me feel icky.

I'm not afraid of the analog ghost anymore, it's been laid to rest and can't wait to dump them and get back to vaping!!

Note: Being a pensioner, I am trying to get enough hardware together to enable me to bridge such failure gaps, but I have to do it a bit at a time. Hopefully, I'll have some redundancy in place before the next equipment crash.

All of you are such inspirations - I am brand new to this board. I too have smoked for close to 40 years. I smoke about a pack a day.......I read and read and am amazed ........I placed an order last Friday with Vapor4Life, got notice that it has been shipped today........I am apprehensive, excited, scared, but ready for it to get here! I came to this forum looking around and I got SO confused, I have no idea what a lot of these terms mean, or what is the best thing to buy starting out - I just knew I wanted to try this. There were so many choices, so many places to order - I just didn't know how to choose, so I just picked one and ordered a kit - I hope I have done the right thing and more than that, I hope it actually works for me. So many are so positive about this I hope it is just what I need. To not have to fool with looking for my cigarette case, or a lighter, or cleaning up spilled ashes and ashtrays, or smelling like a smoke stack, cleaning the smoked up car windows.......wow....... I may be back as soon as this kit arrives with a lot of stupid questions so look out!

Sorry to hear about your ecig dying on you :(. Don't knock yourself for going back to an analog in a time of crisis like that. You needed your nico-fix and took care of it. Easy as that. You'll find though that after a bit of time you'll prefer the e-cig over an analog. For me I got to the point where I'd want a regular analog on my way to work. Then it got to where I'd take to hits off the analog and didn't even want it anymore. I preferred my ecig. So I got a cart ready to go specifically for driving to work and one for driving home. I drip the rest of the time. It takes time though. Just don't give up!
