Hey all

ive been reading some good reviews on wicking japanese cotton and thought id give it a go.

Just done a general search and found theres lots of different types out there.

Is there any particular brand i should be looking out for?

Even better is there a tried and trusted stockist in the uk that stands out?

any help would be greatly appreciated :)

I use koga but I've heard great stuff from ko gen do cotton they are the best thing I have used for wicking and flavor not sure about in the UK though I'm in America sorry for that.

No need to apologise for being american mate, not your fault ;) (JOKE)

Yep ko gen do seems to come up in my searches quite a lot but sold out everywhere.

Im looking at muji japanese pads. Can get 10 for £1.45 (thats roughly $2.50). Each size is 5x6 cm. cant hurt to give them a go i suppose and see how they do.

Im currently using rayon so guessing it would be an improvement

I remember saying this in another thread similar to this, but Japanese cotton isn't for everyone, and doesn't suit all coil builds.
For a while, I was attempting to perfect nano dragon coils in a chimbus, and a friend recommended ko gen do (kgd) cotton pads. It was probably the worst idea ever. A cotton pad just isn't pliable enough to work for very small, low-ohm dragons. If anyone's curious, I can elaborate further.
My current favourite build is a 5-wrap 24g parallel around a 2mm or 3/32" drill bit, whichever my fingers reach first. What I've found is that the denser outer surface of the pad doesn't wick fast enough, and the fluffy inner bit is... too fluffy, and doesn't wick well enough, for the heat being produced. I've had to revert to cotton balls, pulled into strips and rolled lightly between my hands, as I used to do.
Cotton pads are great for a lot of "normal" builds, but should you wander down to the extremes, they just don't perform as great.

Anyone have differing opinions? I'm trying to give myself a reason to use the rest of the box of cotton pads I have ;)

Adee, try this link - general understanding seems to be that KGD, Shiseido, Muji, Labo and Puff are about the same and this price seems better -

Thanks for the heads up amtseung. Im mainly looking for single coil builds for my kayfun and maybe if things go well a duel coil for my big buddha around 1-1.5ish ohms so thats a pretty normal build. By extremes do you mean sub ohming?

No different opinion just that my kgd isn't in pad form so does that make a difference?

They may look, wick, and taste the same, but they are not created the same.

This is the reason I only use Koh Gen Do.
"Made from 100% cotton that has not been chemically treated, bleached or pigmented. Raised without the use of chemical fertilizer or pesticides to ensure pure, safe quality."

Someone on reddit e-mailed Muji and asked them some questions,
"So I emailed Muji.

"Dear Broderick,

Thank you for your interest in MUJI. For MUJI Ecru cut cottons: [4548718561247, Cut Cotton / Ecru] and [4548718561254, Cut Cotton / Ecru - L size]

Are they organic? No Are the untreated? No Are they unbleached? Yes Is the cotton used grown pesticide free? No

If you have any further questions, please contact us at (877) 414-9402, or email us at online@muji.com.

Best Regards, Georgie"

I'm using some Labo organic unbleached Japanese cotton squares I got for super cheap on amazon. I would echo amtseung, it's a bit harder to pull through really tight coils wound from thin gauge wire. Otherwise I've found it works pretty well. I'm not really a big sub-ohm, MOAR POWER kinda guy though.
