Dropped my Infinite Stingray at the bar last night when I was drunk. Just two minor dings, one on the edge of the switch and one on the edge of the drip tip. My OCDness is going off the chart though so it's bugging the crap out of me.

I'm too clumsy for authentics.

Haha that's why I love this beater clone. Ain't risking bringing my authentic PB stingray when I get drunk.

Emus,

Do you have a particular routine for mirror polishing? If so I would be interested to hear your take on the it.

All's I do is start w/ sand paper grit that is less course than milling marks.
If you wanna play safe start 600 to 800 in many cases. I sometimes start at 180 to 400 if going deep; dangerous, caution. I always sand paper delete laser etching because they are to dang shallow.

Work up from 600 to 800 to 1200 to 2000 to buffer w/ stiff wheel and course compound. Inspect for scratches. If scratches then back to sanding. No scratches then loose buff wheel and fine compound. Done.

Tips:
Sand 600 north to south then sand 800 east to west until all traces of 600 tracks are gone.

Wet sanding is preferred and clean paper frequently in clean soapy water. A stray large grit can cause random scratches and result in additional elbow grease bleeding.

Rake buff wheel now and then.

Keep work area clean. When dry sanding I use compressed air to clean paper often. Also a cloth to wipe surface.

Thread body tubes together to end w/ consistent diameter.

Chuck mod on threaded rod thread between taped conical lug nuts. Then chuck in drill.

Chuch top cap on bolt using o-rings for cushion.

Chuck nemmy cap on m5 bolt/nut.

Chuck what you can and spin sand.

Got one of my SS models from FT today. This was the one that comes in the black box and with drip tip.

I was actually expecting good things from this model based on the box and driptip.

But I had to do a bit of work to get this one up to par.
I don't think all of them will be like this, but I don't think too many people have received theirs yet.
It's great now, but out of the box it looked a little scary.

In the box looked ok.

Out of the box - I thought the tubes were welded together because of the dark spots on the seams and I could barely separate the tubes.

Once I got the tubes apart (just took a little muscle); I see why they were so difficult.
All of the threads full of .... - I actually wiped some of it off before taking the pic cuz some of the crap got on my hands.

So, I washed it with warm water, soap and toothbrush to the threads. All that crap came out of the threads. I brushed the tubes and went over everything with some Mothers mag polish.
When I took the switch apart - both the magnets popped out! I had to glue those back in.
The switch was very crunchy so I did a little sanding on the brass base and post then polished them - now it's perfect.
The etching isn't as deep as the brass "brushed" model - so some of it lightened up a bit after brushing and polish.
The tubes do fit almost seamlessly - but didn't look like it before brushing and polish.

I've got the other SS model enroute (hopefully that one won't require as much work) - I'll post that one up when I get it.

Hows this one performing? I've been thinking on getting the SS one but I didn't know if it hit comparably as hard as the brass one.

My magnets popped out as well when I cleaned mine, it took me a long while to get it back together.

Got my brass stingray from FT today. Man, I wish I had access to tools to polish this thing.

Smelled absolutely horrible and was dirty as hell. Thing looks fantastic.

My magnets popped out but I didn't find it necessary to glue them in when putting it back together

Pics or it didn't happen ;)

Did you get the polished or brushed version?

Either way, just go buy a little metal polish - do it by hand with a cotton cloth.

GOT IT  .. I don't have pics of it set up yet, I will post those in the "other thread" once I take them ... these are pics in the box. :D

Nikkita6 can you post some close up pics of this on here (bottom button, top cap, logo, etc) I don't look at the setups thread often.

I've seen a Tobeco model and the brass portion in the bottom switch (with the logo) - looks like a separate piece inside the steel - vs. the FT models I have which look super flush - almost like the brass is plated on the steel (maybe it is...).
