My story began a bit over a month and a half ago. The truth is that I actually quit smoking over a year and a half before I started vaping, but every single day I missed smoking. I knew if I didn't do something, I was going to start smoking again, just like I did every time I had quite before, and I was reaching my breaking point. I thought about vaping, but I was skeptical of the health aspects of it, so I looked in some medical journals (perk of being in college is having access to databases of professional journal articles and studies) about vaping, and was surprised to find that there was no evidence of any real harm to vaping at this time. I watched some testimonial videos on YouTube, browsed forums, talked to some of my vaping friends... And while still skeptical that I would like it, I walked into a local vape shop to pick up my first vaporizer: A Vision Spinner with a Kanger T3S clearomizer tank. The first hit I took was the first time since I was 18 (9 years) that I had absolutely no more desire to smoke a cigarette. Fast forward about a week, I got my first regulated box mod (Smok M80 plus, which had to be replaced after 3 weeks due to some manufacturing defects with a Sigelei 100W plus) and a Kanger SubTank Mini, about a week after that, I got my first RDA (Wotofo Troll), and about 2 weeks ago I got my first mechmod (a Calvert clone) and a MutationX V4.

Vaping has pretty much satiated everything smoking ever provided me... I smoked pipes, cigars and RYO cigarettes because I enjoyed it more as a hobby than anything, and changing cotton, building coils, dripping, etc. has been a great substitute for all of that. It also has a sense of community. I know when I go into a local shop, I'm probably going to be in there for a little bit talking to the employees and other customers, sampling flavors, asking about products and sharing stories.

Hi GoodNewsEvryone and welcome to ECF. Glad to have you aboard :)

Sounds like you've made a good start with vaping and good to hear it's working out for you and keeping you from smoking. I smoked for 37 years and thought I would never be able to quit until I tried vaping. Looking forward to chatting more with you :)

Glad to see there are people who smoked for upwards of 3 decades that made the switch as well! Gives me hope for some of my family members I'm trying to "convert" but don't seem too interested/seem skeptical.
I was a professional quitter, never even made it 24 hours before this. Don't give up, I got to convert one earlier today ( I guess yesterday now), and I don't know who cried more, me, or her.

over 40 for me, weaned off cigs more by accident than anything. maybe a gift set for when "you run out of smokes" I found it very easy and I was a diehard pack to pack and a half a day for very long time. it still amazes me. I am glad you find vaping satisfying, do you prefer particular flavours or are you diy

My favorite ADV is a flavor at a local shop called "Honey Bear" (funny, because my name is Bear) which is blueberry with what I think is a hint of tobacco flavoring, and there is supposed to be a honey flavor as well, but I can't taste it. Fine by me, I never really liked honey any way (More of an Agave Nectar or Maple Syrup guy, haha). But I have honestly not met a flavor yet that I DIDN'T like, and I have tried many: fruits, candy, custard, cereal (Full Blown Vapor makes a flavor called White Wabbit, which tasted like Trix), desert flavors, etc... What about yourself? I like the gift set idea, I may keep that in mind. :)

That is awesome that you were able to quit, and get someone else to quit as well! There seem to be those people who can quit and not look back, my Mom is a prime example. It was so hard on her to stop smoking (this was about 17 years or so ago) and she smoked between 2 and 3 packs a day. When she finally did kick the habit, she never had a desire to smoke. She can't even stand the smell of cigs anymore. I was hoping it would be that way for me, but it wasn't. I'm really thankful I found vaping, it was one of the best feelings to not have any desire to smoke for the first time in almost 10 years.

Much respect GoodNewsEveryone! Stay with it. If the cravings do try to return; change things up. Try a different flavor, bump your nic level. Vaping can, and does, work!
I can personally testify to that. When I quit and switched to vaping I intentionally did NOT throw out what was left of my last pack of cigarettes. I started vaping as a means to reduce the cost of the analogs, and if I managed to quit completely, then "Bonus!" I did NOT want to set an ultimatum for myself as I had done that during many previous attempts to quit and it only made me feel worse about my failure.
Over the first 18 months, on nine different occasions (the exact number of cigarettes I had left in the pack)(always when I was in less than a sober condition) the craving hit and I lit up without guilt. The taste was nasty (I'm sure the staleness had something to do with it), the feeling was nasty, and the next morning I was sure my mouth was a litter box. Each time I smoked less of the cigarette, until the last one I lit and then immediately tossed into the toilet. A year later and I have not even thought about lighting up again.
I don't recommend this method (or lack of one :)) but I share it to encourage you to stick with it.
Best wishes!!
