WEll that is how I spell it too, but we are both wrong. Grammar rules of 'contractions'........y'all is a contraction of You and All.

But I've seen it spelled many different ways.

You all.. or is it Yaw all?

    How many?

What paper do you write for? Where did you go to school? How long have you been a journalist? Links to articles? Press Association member? I'm an editor of a paper and it seems to me others in my profession have forgot the basics they were taught in school. I'd like to know if you're honest and accurate or a sensationalist. Also be good to know if you're in good standing with your press association.

Ya'll is simply a contraction, and it is used a bunch down here in the south. On my way to New Orleans years ago I saw a sign that stated it is pronounced Nawlins. During my 25 years in the south I have learned to make many one syllable words into two syllable words. Try it, it is not hard at all. I frequently make fun of friends by asking them to spell something they said. For instance, fire sounds like far, with two syllables.

Anyway, when I first posted here I was very surprised at how fast I got responses; had no idea of the volume going on here and expected to wait days as with so many other forums. Perhaps OP is not gone.

I would also like more details of this piece being written.

    Welcome,

Lots of lovely research and data at CASAA - The Consumer Advocates for Smoke-free Alternatives Association

Lots of interesting information in people's signatures too...how long smoke-free, how much money saved....

Thanks for letting us know that you're seeking information - there's quite a bit here and and most importantly, lots of very nice, supportive people. So, just like any new member, ask lots of questions,

    (and it's you + all= y'all. How many? = all y'all ... ;) )

I always thought the ya part was a slurred you, therefore it is ya'll. LOL! Yep, all ya'll! Someone gave me a book of southern slang years ago, and it had y'all and ya'll in it.

do they say "might could" in Texas? that's one of my favorites here in the deep south, where all words have two syllables. Any word that has more than two is shortened, and any word that has fewer is lengthened :)

I'm from Alabama, currently living in Ohio. I will defend y'all as a perfectly acceptable contraction of you all. I will admit that I'm a stickler for the correct placement of the apostrophe though.

One thing I would like to see from a journalist is an in depth exploration of the money side of things. I want to know who stands to lose if e cigarettes start to replace both NRT and cigarettes. I want to see some hard numbers. I want to know who is lobbying for what. Obviously I have a biased opinion, and I think that we will see government, tobacco, and pharma have a lot to lose with ecigarettes. I want to see some quantification of that.

I would like to see an article that quotes scientists on both sides. Most of the articles I've seen that give lip service to being balanced will quote scientists on the control side and Joe Schmoe, vape shop owner, on the other side. Not that Joe's opinion is not worth knowing, but Joe has a vested interest. There are scientists and medical doctors who approve of electronic cigarettes. I'd like to see them given more than a passing mention in articles.

I'd also like to see mention of what sorts of regulations vapers and those pro-ecig think are acceptable/adequate. There is a good round up of those, let me see if I can find it...http://......................./e-cig-regulation-vapers-and-experts Many of us are not opposed to some reasonable regulation.

Bother... That site seems to be blocked. It's a good write up, so I'll break the link and see if it works:

Hello journalist. I am a nicotine addict who smoked for 16 years. Only stopped twice before in my life due to pregnancy. Those were the only times I was able to stop because the smell of smoke made me sick then. I have tried the patch, gum, Chantix and Wellbutrin. The Chantix and Wellbutrin caused panic attacks. The patch made me dizzy from TOO much nicotine at once, plus I'm as addicted to the act of smoking as I am to the nicotine. The gum also made me dizzy, as you must keep it in your mouth, and you tend to chew what is in your mouth, whether you need a dose of nicotine or not. I did not try hypnosis. I'm very skeptical of it and I feel it would have been a waste of hard earned money.

My grandmothers funeral was on November 9th, 2013. She died of lung cancer which spread to her brain. It was an awful thing to watch. The day of her funeral, my mother, who is a nurse, presented me with my first vape. It was an ego style, variable volt, 650 mAh, passthrough battery that came with a USB charger and a bottom coil clearomizer that held 2 ml of e-liquid. She also got me a 30 ml bottle of cherry flavored e-liquid. I started using it that day, and in less then a week I was no longer smoking cigarettes at all. They started tasting extremely nasty after vaping cherry e-liquid. After 16 years of smoking, I have just reached my one month anniversary of quitting. I don't miss them at all, largely because of that final memory of my last cigarette tasting and smelling like burning garbage.

Since I quit, I have purchased the same starter kit I started with for my husband, my mother in law, and my sister. My husband and sister quit smoking entirely. My mother in law cut a 50 year old, 2 pack a day habit down to 5 cigarettes per day. For the first time in years, my first cold of the fall season was just a cold that passed, rather then developing into bronchitis. I can run after the kids without getting winded, and I no longer smell like an ashtray. My husband sleeps easier at night, and his sleep apnea has been gradually lessening. Even the kids colds seemed to go much easier this fall, and we never smoked in the house. I can only assume that the time they spent with us outside exposed them to enough smoke to keep them sick when they got sick. I feel terrible for that.

With the proper support, and an ability to tinker and trouble shoot, I feel that vaping can beat out all other forms of smoking cessation methods. If they can improve the performance of the type that look like cigarettes (cigalikes), there won't even be much a learning curve. As it is now, I act as tech support for the members of the family I have converted. I change out the coils when they burn out, I research and buy replacement parts, I know what level of nicotine should be in the liquid they buy.

They were all reluctant to try this at first, because of the bad press, the learning curve, and lackluster performance of cigalikes. Maybe you can help with the press, if you really are a journalist. They are learning as they discover they enjoy it. Especially my husband, who has been assisting his mother. He's been stealing every upgrade I buy for myself, despite him saying he doesn't need it when I offer to get him the same equipment. With some innovation and more quality products produced here in the USA, I think this technology could really make an impact on smokers. Help millions more quit then have already done so with vaping. Personally, I love to tinker and I love to research and compare spechs on different equipment, but many more do not. It would be great for my mother in law to be able to buy a cigalike that performs like the ego she has, right from the supermarket and be able to use it all day without an issue. I'm afraid that with all the talk of restrictions and banning, it'll destroy the innovation and incentives to make that happen.

If you don't vape yourself, or even a smoker, I don't think you can ever comprehend what Vape means to people. What kind of research into the health issues have you done?

I was a smoker for 27 years before I started to vape a little over 7 months ago. I have gone from cig-a-likes to a top notch regulated device and a full blown mechanical with sub ohm builds.

I've tried hypnosis, nic patches, oral meds, and nothing helped to get off smokes until I started to vape. I was able to get my nicotine, my oral inhalation fixation satisfied, and haven't had to smoke since. You can't imagine how this effects someone. I am overjoyed, no not simply happy since I don't smoke, but vape brings joy into my life. I have been happier, healthier, and more productive since I started vaping. I am a better person now because of vape.

Don't get me wrong, if done for the right reasons, promotion of the right to vape, and a true account of the facts, then you might be open-minded enough to get it right. But if you are being paid by the tobacco industry to write a slant in their effort to slow the vape industry while they scramble to catch up and recover the millions in annual losses due to the vape industry, well,

Welcome to the forum, buy a Provari, get an Aspire BDC and some juice, and that will get you started. For you it should be tax deductible since it will be for your story, probably get it covered by you business expense account.

You just need to understand that kids in Texas learned to talk listening to their folks talk with a lip full of chew. A lip full makes the "Texas Drawl" make perfect sense.

Wondering if the OP is a TROLL.

I love this place. Yep, I just love it. :) Either the guy fell off a cliff, or was shocked that we're not just a bunch of yahoos sticking electronic 'boom sticks' in our mouths. :vapor:

    I resent that, I *am* in fact a yahoo..No, really. \o/

    and +1 to this

OP: if you dont think we will ask you questions, then you are really in for a treat!

"fixin too" just makes me crazy
I've moved around a lot too, so don't really have much of an accent either.

Ok, so, just to add a bit that is actually on topic
This coming Sunday will be 4 years smoke-free for me. Not bad for someone who didn't have any intention of ever not-smoking.

Like Spazmelda, I'd like to see someone take a good look at the money trail and conflicts of interest in the tobacco control movement, someone to take a good look at the actual science that does exist

and to talk about the ideas that...
    ...adults like flavors too
...the ability to choose from a very wide variety of nicotine levels is part of what makes this work
...we pretty much do know what is in the liquid, especially people who mix their own
...reporting of trace compounds needs to include a comparison to toxic levels, smoke, and city air quality

    what else?

I'm guessing that the OP had no idea how fast this board moves. Made a first post and expected to come back in a day or so, with no idea that he'd have pages to catch up with. Besides, someone who wants to troll ECF for a hatchet job doesn't have to login or register to do so. Prue Talbot's group did just that earlier this year. Read through the health and medical section, and published a paper that took everything they found out of context. grrr.

Yep. I can't find a Simon Castor reporter or journalist by googling. I didn't try too hard, but nothing came up.

At any rate, I don't mind typing out my views here. Maybe he's trolling. Maybe he's for real.

The widespread raping of English in this area really was a shock when I first arrived. And yes, they do say might could. But it sounds like mawt cuud. And my favorite, "fixin to".

What I can't figure out is how people in the south look at the word Massachusetts and manage to pronounce it Mass-a-Too-sits. That one just simply amazes me. There isn't even a T in the area of where they put one.
