Look at this, I already have a question. That sure didn't take long.

Can you overcharge a battery?

I think to protect the threads of the spare batt I will use one of the rubber caps from the carto to cover the threads when the batt is not being used or charged.

By the way, love the rubber coating on the mouthpiece. Comfortable and not slippery.

the LED shuts off when its charged. just like a computer or a cell phone, its probably better to unplug it when its at 100% but not necessary as technically it should stop charging itself.

Have the Volt, everything is charged, a carto is in place, but after I ate dinner I went out back, as usual, and lit up an analog. I think some parts of this process are going to be hard. I need to change my behaviors if I want to be successful.

I’m exciting about using the PV, so why am I hesitant to start?

With my order I got the Strong sampler, all at 18mg nic. Hasn’t taken me long to realize that the Capachino just doesn’t do it for me, not much of a throat hit.

I find myself sitting and thinking more about having an analog than I normally do. I’m sure this will pass.

The auto batt doesn’t seem to put out much vapor, but then I am newb and don’t know how much is normal. Tomorrow I will try the manual batt with another carto and see how that works.

Well short day with the PV today. First full day tomorrow. I know I will have to change some habits and behaviors beginning tomorrow but am looking forward to the challenge. At least I know I won’t have to deal with the nic craving, the PV will take care of that for me.

Two analogs today, one after dinner and one at bedtime. Let’s see what tomorrow brings.

I managed to cut down by half of my 2+ PAD habit almost immediately but I needed more nicotine and bought some 24mg cartos and juice to keep me more satisfied. I haven't managed to quit immediately but now that I have my clearos, 24 mg and plenty of juice, I have cut back further.

I didn't take my precious cigs with me yesterday and went 8 full hours without smoking although I had plenty of vape available:) I drank plenty of water too.

Keep us posted.

8/24

My work week morning routine usually goes something like this:

Roll out of bed and immediately get in the shower (no water no wakey)
After the shower I got to garage (dressed of course) and have my first cig of the day
Dogs know where I am and wait at the door for their morning snack
Wife hands me a cup of coffee as I walk back into the house
Sit and watch the news for about 20 minutes
Take the dog for a walk and have my second cig of the day

It is a perfected routine, and not one easily broken.

But this morning:

Roll out of bed and immediately get in the shower (no water no wakey)
After the shower I go to the garage, pick up the PV, take about 4 to 5 good pulls on it.
Dogs know where I am and wait at the door for their morning snack
Wife hands me a cup of coffee as I walk back into the house
Sit and watch the news for about 20 minutes
Take the dog for a walk

Analogs were absent from my morning routine, how did that happen? Mornings are usually my downfall anytime I try to quit. I’m not going to get over excited, after all this is just day one.

In the morning to prepare for the day:

Dripped some 555 18mg fluid into the Capo carto, capped it and will take it with me. Not sure if I dripped it well enough, first time I’ve done that so time will tell.
Opened a Ice Menthol 18mg carto and put it on the auto batt. Will use this one this morning. First draw offered good flavor and good vapor. I am not a menthol smoker so surprised that I enjoyed the flavor.

Okay, here is my baseline on the analogs - I figure I smoke less than a pack a day, probably 18 analogs a day, maybe a full pack on a day where I don’t practice self control. So I am also going to keep track if I smoke analogs.

6:25 a.m. Waited an hour and half after I got up. One analog - but found that I do not get the flavor or the amount of smoke compared to the PV and carto. Carto has much more flavor and much more vapor. Hacked while smoking the analog. Not good.

7:30 a.m. One analog - no nic fit, just figured I am leaving the analogs at home, so I will have one before I go to work. Will packing the PV and depending on it.

11:15 a.m. Came home for lunch and immediately lite up an analog. Why? Wasn’t going through nic withdrawal as the PV took are of me at work. I guess I just missed my friends and had to say hello. Good God the mind is a funny thing. Gotta change things, no doubt.

12:30 p.m. Did I need this one? No. But I was heading back to work and leaving my friends at home, so figured I would say goodbye.

4:10 p.m. Just got off work, came home and immediately reached for the analog. Needed? NO. But I am still on track for smoking less than half of what I usually smoke. Just need to set a goal to decrease by at least one everyday. The PV will help keep the nic craving away, so it will make it easier.

6:00 p.m. Just finished dinner……NO EXCUSE.

I used the manual batt all day today and so far it is hanging in there. Also vaped the 18mg Menthol carto and is has hung in all day as well. The day isn’t done. I am tempted to go ahead and top it off, but since the Menthol is not a favorite I will vap it until it doesn’t produce anymore to see how long it will really last. I did good on the battery and the carto, but you have to remember that I smoke less than 1 PAD, and I found that if I get a nic craving at work I just take a couple hits off the PV (heavy hits), then go back work. I don’t stand around and toke on the PV like I would an analog. So I guess I’m a light user.

I did have a couple times today where I asked myself if I really want to quit analogs. Always came up with the same answer - YES. My wife will be pleased that I don’t stink. I am not conscious of my breath. And know that if I stick with this the health benefits will be huge.

Drank twice as much water today as I normally do. Precaution to avoid getting dehydrating by the vaping.

All in all it was a good day considering it’s my first day with the PV. Wish I was strong enough to just say NO to the analog. Baby steps dude, baby steps. If I just throw the analogs away I fear I will just doom myself to failure.

I think what I will do is enter into the journal throughout the day and post to the thread at the end of the day. I know it is a lot to read, and many won’t read it. I am just hoping that it helps other newbs. I know that it helps me to keep the journal.

Over the edge...
Coastie, if the Volt is working for you, great! You'll know soon enough if vaping is for you. It doesn't matter what hardware you use if you can't find a flavor or two you really like. If you get to the point that you feel your hardware just isn't enough, you can upgrade without spending a lot. Don't give up before you try a VV device. I have some big PVs but the ones I carry with me are eGo twists. Good luck and hang in there.

Man, you are doing great!! :toast: What a wonderful attitude you have, and I am really enjoying hearing your impressions, feelings, etc. as many of them mirror mine "way back" when I began vaping  a whole big month & 3 weeks ago (I think). It took me about a week to stop the analogs, took hubby about 2 weeks. Everyone is different, so please don't beat yourself up about the analogs. Any reduction is a wonderful thing & I'm sure that one day you will just find that you're craving your Volt & not your analogs. After a week I found myself waking up & instead of missing my cigs, I missed my Volt!

I predict great success for you - sounds like you've really got your ducks in a row. I certainly share your excitement - if someone asks me about my vaping, they better watch out because they're going to get an earful about what a miracle this is for me.

Keep drinking that water (very important!!) As you said, it's all about baby steps - just keep taking them!

Way to go! Every cigarette you don't have is a small victory. Because it's my ECF MO- try some higher dose nic juice. I saw a study from a doctor in Greece- 16 mg juice raises blood nicotine levels about 1/10 as high as a single analog does. Don't be afraid to hit the 36 mg especially first thing in the morning (the toughest one...I hung on to that one for months).

I had the same experience with the analogs as you're having. I didn't NEED one.... but I wanted it. There's some kind of mind issue going on with stopping a habit that you've had for years. Don't be too hard on yourself, but if you truly do want to stop smoking, vape first. The absorption through vapor is a little different, and you're not getting all the other chemicals your body is used to feeling... so instead of vaping for 5-6 minutes like you would smoke, give the vape 10-15 minutes THEN smoke if you still feel like you NEED it. Pretty soon, you will learn to trust that the vape will get you there, plus that cig isn't going to taste good after the vape.

Yep. I have been taking it easy on the PV as I was not bright enough to buy some blanks with the sampler 5 pack. Got some blanks ordered today though, and some more juice. So once those get here I will vap more and smoke analogs less. I was happy to see today though that the manual 78mm batt and the one carto lasted all day. So that tells me that even if I vap more I won't use more than two cartos a day, and I can refill those.

You guys on here are great. The encouragement from folks who have gone through the same process is so motivating to me. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. I feel good about how today went, and am excited to keep moving forward tomorrow.

Coastie, first off welcome and congrats on making the decision to quit! I can't say that I am very far removed from you, but haven't had an analog in two weeks. And the last one I had tasted so nasty and chemically (is that a word?) that it took me two hours to get the taste out of my mouth!

I found that I wanted analogs more if they were around. If they weren't, I just replaced the analog in my routine with my PV and then I didn't want them that much! It wasn't that I needed them, but just wanted the comfort of them. I finally got all of them gone and haven't looked back.

One thing to be careful of on the auto batteries is that they can fire very easily. I've seen fan's cause them to fire, loud noises, somebody breathing on them. It just doesn't take much. Also, you have to be a little more careful with them not to get fluid in them as they aren't sealed like a manual is.

Either way congrats on making the first steps and just keep putting one foot in front of the other and you will get to your destination!

Have been enjoying reading so far Coastie. I found that cigarettes had quite a strong psychological habit, as well as a physical habit. After I quit I'd find at certain times my mind automatically told me "time for a smoke". It was a bit unnerving - I didn't smoke, I vaped instead, but was aware that my mind was breaking a habit as well as my body. After a while it stopped - my mind got used to vaping I guess.

Thanks for the info Rosary. I had already read that the auto batt fires easily, so when i am not using it I keep one of the rubber condoms over the carto. I think that may help them to not fire as the end piece will be protected. That may or may not be the case, but worth a shot.

Good luck on your quest.

They say it takes 21 days to change a habit. At least one of my favorite professors liked to use that line. I don't know how true it is, but I told myself that often during my first few weeks of vaping and it did help.

Also, never count how many you had ... count how many you didn't have.

Great pointers Hawkeye. Thanks.

8/25

Saturday, a day when I have more time on my hands, not working, and a day when I usually smoke more analogs than I do during the week when I have work to keep me busy. Should be a challenge, but I’m up to it.

Got up at 7:00, showered, got my cup of coffee and went out on the back patio, but this time with my PV instead of a carto. The PV tasted good with the coffee, satisfied me the same, or dare I say better, than the analog. So enjoyable.

It amazes me that I am still pulling on the same carto that I pulled on all day yesterday. I still intend to pull on this one until it gives up, just to see how long it will last, and whether it can be refilled without a burnt taste. I guess you can say I am willing to sacrifice a carto to research. If it goes burnt then I know how long they will last.

ANALOG 8:20 a.m. - had my first analog. Again, did I need it, no. Just once again saying hello to an old friend. Funny that when I pulled on the carto earlier I got no hack. Stand outside and draw on the analog and I hacked. Guess that is telling me something. Enjoyable, but not as enjoyable as the PV.

ANALOG 11:00 a.m. - just one before I leave the pack at home while the wife and I head out on the motorcycle for a day of riding in the mountains. PV packed along, so no need for the analog.

ANALOG 2:15 p.m. - just returned from the motorcycle ride and enjoyed the ride, even though we had to dodge thunderstorms. This ride clearly showed me that my nemesis is going to be the physical habit of smoking analogs. I missed stopping on the side of the road to take a break, lighting up an analog, and shooting the bull while I draw on the analog. At one point I thought that maybe I should carry a lighter and use the lighter as I take that first draw on the PV (using caution not to burn the PV), then realized how ridiculous that thought was. I switched from the Ice Menthol cardo today to a 555 cardo. Not as satisfying as the Ice Menthol. I have never been a menthol smoker but I found I enjoyed the menthol more. Odd.

ANALOG 3:30 p.m. - Arrrrggggggggg. No excuse.

ANALOG 6:20 p.m. - Finished dinner so…………………………..

ANALOG 8:42 p.m. - End of the day. 1 less analog today than yesterday. Goal met, and on a day when I had more time on my hands.

HawkeyeFLA said that should never count how many cigarettes that I had, but rather count how many I did not have. I find it helpful to log what I had as I am requiring myself to justify why I had them. So counting the ones I have are beneficial to me. But thanks Hawkeye.

The wife and I are going to get out on the motorcycle today and enjoy a ride in the mountains. I usually always take my analogs anywhere I go. Crutch madness I guess. But I already told the wife that the analogs are staying at the house and the PV will go with me instead. I also told her that it will be nice that I never have to hunt for my cigarette lighter. Just another small benefit. Got to remember to take water with me though - no dehydration for me.

Used to be that where you found me you found my analogs. But I let the wife know that I am no longer taking the analogs away from the house. Good way to break the dependency,

The wife has been great about listening to me and being supportive. And she has to listen a lot as I am constantly sharing my game plan and my excitement. I find that this will be easier to do as a team, and she is an important member of the team. She has never smoked, always staying fit, and really wants me to stay around awhile. She stopped nagging me about quitting analogs, and switched to nagging me about cutting back. She accepted the fact that I will always smoke.

At bedtime last night the wife expressed concern about me simply exchanging one nicotine delivery system for another, and she asked how I am going to break my dependency on nicotine. I explained to her about the different levels of nic in the carto, and that I am starting on 18mg which seems to be working for me, and after awhile I will step down on the levels until eventually I am at 2 mg then 0mg, at which time I will also quit the PV. I told her that this may be something that takes a year or two, but I am finally on the road to doing something about my dependency. She was excited to hear this. I then told her that once I have gone off analogs, and stayed off for a couple of years that my life insurance will decrease in cost. Another benefit, and a big one as the difference in life insurance premiums for a smoker vs. non smoker is huge.

Tried the Classic Grape from the Strong Sampler pack - YUK.

QUESTION…QUESTION…QUESTION - Do the Volt cardomizers fit on an eGo Twist? I sometimes think that I just don’t get enough vapor from the 78mm batt, and understand that the eGo Twist is variable volt. I want to use it with the Volt cartomizers for now, then graduate to a tank on the eGo. Possible?

Well, the day is done. Day 2 of the PV conversion and still excited about this whole process. I like the feeling of feeling good about myself, so I will feed on that and continue on. I’ll remember what HawkeyeFLA said, “21 days …….”. ONWARD AND UPWARD.

Just a comment on the menthol. My husband DETESTED menthol cigarettes, but has started vaping (he's at 30 days now - yay!) and of all things, he's vaping Ice Menthol exclusively. It is odd, but I think perhaps something about the menthol either increases the throat-hit sensation or gives the impression that it's increasing it. Either way, it works for him :)

You're continuing to do great! Onward & upward is right!

Hi Coastie,
The Volts are 808 threaded so the cartos won't fit an Ego. The larger Volt X2 is 808 and Ego threaded - so you could use Ego tanks or cartos with it, and still use 808 cartos or clearos as well. But not 510s. I have a 900 mah X2 which last for hours.
Or you might want to buy an Ego twist.
All the SI batts, including the X2 are regulated at 3.7 volts.

Just a thought - do you stop and have a vape at the side of the road when on your trips? Sometimes stopping for a vape instead of a cig can help. I found that taking the "smoke break" but vaping in it was very helpful, until I didn't need to anymore.

I think the Desert Joe might be a stronger flavor for you - but taste is so subjective.

Congrats on your journey and progress thus far....it's a great sign that you are finding satisfaction from the vaping, and I'm sure you'll continue to cut out those analogs as the days progress.

i experienced some similiarities in my initial month or so when I was trying to quit. (Which I cannot believe was 6 1/2 months ago! It flew by!) Anyway...when I got my first PV, and still had some analogs laying around, I found the ecig to be completely satisfying, but since I still had cigarattes, I would occassionally "want" one, but I didn't need it. Once I didn't actually have any analogs around, I was easily able to fight that "want", because honestly, it would pass so quickly, that I wouldn't get in the car to go buy a pack, and so on. Another thing that really did it for me, was finding juices I LOVED! I can remember the turning point like it was yesterday. I had initially started with pre-filled cartos (I was using the ProSmoke ecig when i started), and they just didn't have much flavor IMO, but I thought the device itself performed good enough at that time. Then i found a youtube video of people refilling the prosmoke cartridges with their own juice, which intrigued me. I went to a local smoke shop and grabbed a tiny bottle of some random brand chocolate e-juice. I found the vape even MORE satisfying at that point, more vapor, flavor, TH, whole nine. That is when i found ECF....because I was trying to find some really great juices online, now that I knew I could refill myself. I ended up getting 2 juices from Backwoods Brew. Up until this point, I still had analogs laying around, would smoke one every so often like you have been doing. (This took place over the course of a couple weeks btw). The day my juices from Backwoods Brew came was the last day I smoked. I remember REALLY enjoying the Casablanca flavor, as well as the Melonbacko flavor I ordered. A few hours later that "want" for an analog came over me again, I lit up, and it was DISGUSTING! The taste of a real cigarette compared to the flavors I had been vaping for the several hours prior could not even be compared. I took maybe 3 drags off that cigarette, and put it out. I actually tossed the rest of the pack, and haven't smoked since! That same night, I even went out with a bunch of friends, and was surrounded by about 5 people were smoking my brand, and i never lit up, and more importantly, I didn't want to! So it might be worth your while to also try and find some juices that you absolutely love, I know that is what did it for me. Once I experienced such amazing flavor, that next cigarette was just god awful to me. I was incredibly surprised that it happened to be honest, as I wasn't expecting that, but I'm sure glad it did!

I don't even vape tobacco flavors anymore, but at that point in time, those happened to be the flavors that did it for me. It may be something completely different for you...but I think going with a high quality juice so you also get the satisfying throat hit and vapor production are key.

Best of luck with the journey, don't get discouraged, and keep up the awesome work! I look forward to reading more about your experience. You will definitely get there! :)

Welcome Coastie,
I am happy to hear you are on the road to quitting, I like you previously am impatiently awaiting the mailman to deliver my analog alternative. I am really enjoying reading your daily journal of your experiences, they all seem very familiar to my previous attempts to quit. I am also super excited to get started on vaping, I have three bottles of juice, a tank, and when I can talk him into it, I have a buddies battery. So far from the limited time I have tried it, I absolutely LOVE vaping.

The one time I quit for a significant period of time (2.5 - 3 years) I did it cold turkey and it was the hardest thing I have ever done. Also I did this while deployed (I'm Navy btw, no hard feelings though lol) which added to the stress of an already very stressing situation. The one thing I found that helped that I had never done in any other attempt to quit was to not try and completely alter my lifestyle all at once. Before when I would try to quit I wanted nothing to do with smoking, and what I found was I missed a lot of the social aspect of smoking as well, so after I ate and when buddies would say they were goin for a smoke, I would walk out to the smoke break and would sit and bs with them like normal, only instead of a smoke I would have a soda or chew some gum. I found that by still having part of my routine in tact it actually helped me cope much better and I was able to deal with the not smoking a whole lot easier. This time around I plan to do the same thing only instead of gum or soda I plan to go out and bs with them while I vape.

Now that you have mentioned it, I have to ask, what do you ride? I went 15 years without riding and missed it nearly every day but I had other more important things to pay for and to do for my family. Finally last November though I bought another bike and since have put 4500 miles on it. I am the proud owner of an 96 Shadow Spirit 750 btw. And while you are out on your ride, you can still pull over, relax and stretch a bit and bs while you vape instead of analog.

Anyway again like I said I am happy for you and the goal of 1 less per day is awesome, stick with it and good luck to you.

Ken
