(sorry the post is long)

I have been a passive reader of the forum for quite sometime now. I have benefited a lot from various threads here, so wanted to thank you all for creating such a vast knowledge base. Wanted to share my journey so far, may be it is helpful for someone.

I have been a regular smoker for 15 years now. First 5-6 years used to smoke full flavor cigarettes (in school/college days whichever was cheap was the preferred brand) then I started thinking of quitting and in process switched to lights (various brands before settling on Marlboro Silver). Sometime in those years I assumed that I can quit anytime I want and kept smoking. I never realized when I moved from smoking 10 cigarettes a day to close to a pack. When I realized and tried to quit I could not last half day (may be 10 hours due to a flight).

Last year in a smoke shop saw a e-cigarette. Read about vaping and thought this could probably help me quit. Bought some e-cigarette (whatever shop guy suggested) and some e-juice (6mg). Tried switching, alternating, etc but failed. A month later found the e-cigarette in closet and it was all leaking and smelled disgusting and there it went into the trash. Again started thinking about switching and bought a white Kangertech sub box. Loved it but did not like the flavor. Something was missing. Tried Space Jam Eclipse, liked it but it did not do the trick. Eventually Kangertech ended up in trash after a month or two of sitting in closet.

3-4 months back I saw a stainless steel version of same sub box but with more power (I guess 75W). Bought it, cranked up the power and ended up coughing. Started trying out various e-juice (with varying nicotine level) but nothing worked.

Last month one shop keeper suggested a small e-cigarette (tube from Vaperland) and some Aspire tank to go with it. This was better than everything I had tried so far. Took out sub box and filled in the same e-juice and it was disappointing. Kept vaping once in a while hoping I will switch one day. In meantime both the e-cigarette kept giving me trouble. Kangertech kept leaking and Vaperland was giving less vapor.

At this point I started browsing the forum and scanning threads on experiences of others who managed to quit. I also realized that I was blaming my equipment for all failures (I have some GAS as well) so decided the buy the best I could and try again.

Ordered a Provari Radius with Kabuki tank along with Goldrush e-juice (12mg). Got it on 7/8/16 and decided to made the switch. For first 3 days smoked 3 cigarette everyday and vaped rest of the time (close to 2 tanks everyday). Then reduced to 2 a day and last Friday reduced to 1 a day. Yesterday evening I could not smoke the complete cigarette - it tasted horrible. I have set coming Friday evening as complete switch day with 1 cigarette a day (5:00PM) till then. There are no more craving anymore except sometimes in night.

In last 1 week tried several other e-juices as well. Prime15 (bad), Tribecca (good), Castle Long (good but can't smoke it whole day), and Devlin (bad - works if I mix some other juice in it) and no flavor (70/30 pg/vg 18mg). Have settled on Provape Goldrush and Halo Tribecca as everyday/whole day juice (any other I should try?).

Spent close to $800 overall before settling on the current setup. I did waste close to $450 on trying stuff and then foolishly throwing it away but I am happy about the final result. I think this is first time in 15 years when I have survived on 1 cigarette a day (and actually heading to quitting). Gave sub box to Dad who is also PAD (Camel regular) smoker for 30-40 years. He is down to 2-3 cigarette a day (he liked no flavor 18mg 70/30 pg/vg mix).

Along the process experience of others who quit smoking and shared here helped me big time. And, all the technical discussions was immensely helpful. Before starting reading this forum I did not know that there is a difference between MTL and direct lung vaping. Imagine vaping 0.5 sub tank at 40w the same way you would smoke a cigarette. Happily running radius/kabuki at 5-6w and loving it.

Welcome. That is exactly how I ended up qutting with the technique of smoking 1-2 analogs a day, than eventually down to only the morning one. This eventually led to 2-3 days of smoking 1/4th to 3/4th of the analog until I realized it made me nauseous everytime I hit it. So I decided to quit on June 28th, 2016. Been loving it ever since. In fact, I love it so much, I decided to stack up and learn DIY . Anyways, congradulations and wish you the best in the vaping world.

Nice post! Finding what works is as unique as a fingerprint. It does take time, patience, and money. Lol

Are you a MTL or DTL vaper? If you like lower wattage MTL then I definitely recommend getting a Kayfun style tank. Clones are super cheap and they are very reliable and easy to build. I've been stuck on them for years and have tried others but kept going back.

I know the feeling. Congratulations, no more stinking up your clothes and everything around you.

Most people will never know that 5-6 watts is all you need to have a good vape. Your lucky, money well spent, you will save that money back (and then some) over time.

I think you did OK!
I sank 800 bucks into cig-a-likes that claimed to be
1. The best e-cig
2. One cartomizer was 40 cigarettes
3. Switch and save your health and money.

Well, I switched to save my health but the money is only evening out now.
In my world these atrocious rip-off brands would up in court for telling un-truths and taking folks money.
Anyway, sad to hear you had trouble with Kanger. I find it fascinating and often reassuring that I find myself re-using some of my early mods. Never give up!

Congrats on your journey. Great story. Tribecca is one of my favs and I am a Provari lover also. Good luck and VAPE ON

Thanks! Just ordered another bottle of Tribecca. Loving Provari. It works and feels very good in hands.

Congratulations to you. The moral to the story is don't give up. Just like my mod says when I power it off. It says "keep vaping". It took me 8 months to make the switch entirely to vaping. Thanks for sharing your experience. I always like to read stories such as yours.

Thanks. This time I am not going to give up. No more cigarettes for me.

Congrats and thanks! Yeah when I started I was scared to let go of cigarettes all together suddenly. Don't know why some voice in head kept saying you will need it. Reducing usage is working better. No voices and a natural feeling of not smoking is working better (and faster).

Thanks! Wish there was some magical way that said use this e-cig and it will work.

I do MTL. Running kabuki at 5-6w with air hole as small as possible. I have been eying Kayfun since I started reading reviews of various tanks. V4 is way costly, may be will buy a Lite of V5 once 'am off cigarettes for a month.

Thanks! Yup, was spending ~ $300 on cigarettes every month. In few months cost will get recovered. I am liking low watts. The moment I go anywhere near 10w I find it less comfortable.

Thanks! Kanger is good. My Dad likes it. I might have blamed it for my own failure.

Welcome and congrats on finding a set up that works for you! Some of us have made the same journey of purchases that didn't quite get us where we needed to be. But part of the overall journey is getting us to gear that gets us to our sweet spot!

Thanks!

One more piece of advice i can give is, if you usually have an analog with a cup of coffee in the morning to get your day started. And you seem to realize that the morning vape isn't the same as the morning analog, have a cup of coffee and vape during the day. Then you will get used to the taste / combination for the morning and it should help out a lot with that first analog craving

Just order a clone or 2 to start out. I get almost all my clones directly from China @ Fastech. If you like a tight draw with low wattage then I really can't recommend a kayfun style tank enough.

Here's some links to some proven performing clones that won't break the bank:

$23.57 Infinite Kayfun V4 Styled RTA Rebuildable Tank Atomizer - stainless steel / 23.2mm diameter at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

$18.82 Kayfun Lite Plus V2 Styled Rebuildable Tank Atomizer (4.5ml) - stainless steel / w/ nano chamber & chimney at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

$15.37 Kayfun V5 Styled RTA Rebuildable Tank Atomizer - 5ml / 316 stainless steel / 22mm diameter at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

$9.97 Kayfun Lite Pawns Styled RTA Rebuildable Tank Atomizer (4ml) - stainless steel + PMMA / 22mm dia. at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

$13.61 Kayfun Mini V3 Plus Styled RTA Rebuildable Tank Atomizer - 3.5ml / stainless steel + glass / 24mm dia. at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

The Kayfun v5 is pretty airy. They have an adapter to make is tighter draw but even Kayfun has moved towards a more airy/bigger cloud type of vape with the v4 & 5. The Lite versions have the tightest draw. I have a small warehouse of those. The v3+ is pretty good. I really like mine. Easy top fill and juice flow control.

Happy vaping!
