Two things...My drawing is actually a little inaccurate. The hole that we both are talking about is on the side of the "cup" but it's not positioned as high up as my drawing depicts. I double checked. So there is no fear of juice sitting in the "cup".
Second: Nothing porous that I can see. It's plastic...with two wires going through, along with solder on the other side that blocks the holes that fit snuggly around the wires. The liquid is surely going through the hold in the side of the "cup" as far as I can see.
But if it works...then I think it's a better way to fill...I just can't get it to work over here. I'm trying to figure out why I end up with a ton of juice in my mouth...that's why I'm dissecting these things.
To address the quote above...fill with a needle, exactly .6ml on a brand new carto and you will get a dry burn...I did it on 3 cartos. I'm trying to find the sweet spot...but that's not it. 9ml seems like a tad too much. Maybe I'll try 7.5ml next time I crack a new one open. I'm talking about the first fill...when you top off, it doesn't matter how much you put in...I'm trying to get a perfect first fill with no leaking during filling and no leaking when they are capped off with cart condoms and sit for a bit.
IMO...these could be the perfect carto if only they were metal.
I'm still not sure about the porous aspect of the atomizer cup. When I look through it, pointing the outside tip into a strong light, I can see light coming through that plastic "circuit board" that has the two electrodes. It's like looking through a fine mesh screen. It would take a very controlled test to answer that one. You've have to position the atomizer cup so it could be viewed -- and photographed? -- as liquid seeped in from the outside battery hole. You'd have to plug up the hole that exists to prevent liquid coming in that way... too much damn work! LOL
As for why you are getting a dry burn on a brand new DRY cartomizer when filling with 6ml from the syringe fill port, I suppose if you are using a thick juice, probably VG... AND if you are not giving it adequate time to soak into the fiber filling, you might get a dry burn. Keep in mind, Joye does not sell VG e-liquid, and their pre-filled cartos are pure PG. I would imagine VG liquids need more time to penetrate into the fiber fill. I think I'd let that carto soak up for an hour or more before trying to fire it up if you are filling from the needle port with a thicker juice.
I never go over .75ml when filling with a syringe, and I take it very slow, stopping for a minute or so halfway through, so the liquid can soak in.
And finally, getting juice in the mouth is all part of the fun, isn't it? Come on, SF, man up!
Seriously, I get juice in the mouth from overfilling, no matter which end I fill from. First, I'd recommend letting it soak up for awhile, laying on its side. If it pools in the bottom of the cartomizer, and it will if it's overfilled, you will end up sucking it into the air duct. If you take a slow draw and it sounds like a .... -- or a bubble pipe to the innocent -- it's overfilled. You can remedy this by removing the carto from the battery and blowing it out gently from both directions into a tissue. I usually blow first from the mouthpiece end, then from the battery end. I just give a short, sharp burst, like blowing a blow dart or pea shooter, or blowing a whistle one quick toot. Be careful you don't overdo it and blow out half the juice!
Best regards, etc.
