Im trying to get my head around all the different models, abbreviations, adapter types and batteries. Im starting to learn a little bit about ego and 510 connections but still slightly confused on carts and atomizers.

So an atomizer is the cart that fits into the cartomizer shaft? is that correct?
Ive ordered some BOGE 510 SS carts for my EVOD but im wondering if i need to buy atomizers as the website i got these from didnt give too much away.

An atomizer is really just the part that contains the coil. The coil is what heats up the liquid. So every topper you look at is going to have an atomizer.

The boge cartomizer you posted has the coil down inside the metal tube along with some filler to hold the liquid, so a cartomizer can be a complete 'topper' just by itself. You can also get a tank to put the cartomizer in. In that case, the tank would supply liquid to the cartomizer (via a small hole(s) in the bottom of the cartomizer). A cartomizer is considered a disposable item. Cartomizers can theoretically be cleaned to extend life, but cleaning usually doesn't work very well. They are usually just thrown away when their vapor production or taste starts to fall off.

In the early days of ecigs, the atomizer was sometimes separate from the cartridge. So in that case you'd have to get an atomizer to work with your cartridge. I don't know of anyone who is still using these.

Another option would be a clearomizer. Some clearomizers are disposable, but many have coil heads that can be replaced. In that case, when vapor production falls off or starts to taste bad you just replace the coil head in the 'topper'.

I hope this helps some?

The heating element in a cartomizer is sometimes referred to as the "atomizer". In the diagram below the "heater coil" would be the atomizer.

Different delivery systems:- note bolded Atty, Carto, etc is the abbreviated form

Atomizer/ Atty- an element in a metal tube on to which 2-3 drops of juice is dripped- usually used for testing new juices because Attys are easy to clean. NO filler or wick. There are some diehard Atty users because it’s the best vape possible but very time consuming.

Cartridge/ Cart- a container with sponge (filled with juice) that is used with the Atty- juice drips on to Atty from filled cart and is vaporized- older outdated first “tank” system and prone to leaks unless the user is willing to buy extra seals and “fiddle” with them.

Cartomizer/ Carto- metal tube with stuffing and element. Holds anywhere from 1- 4 ml of juice. Carto is fully saturated and must be occasionally refilled when juice runs out. My Cartos last 1-2 weeks. Always use single coil cartos with 3.3- 3.7 PVs for the best vape.

Carto+Tank- a Carto with a hole punched in it. Carto is than placed in a glass, metal or plastic tank which is filled with juice- juice saturates Carto by way of hole in Carto. My Cartos with a tank last, before tight draw occurs: light juices- 80-90 ml. dark juices- 50-60 ml.

Clearomizer/ Clearo- a plastic, glass or metal tank with a wick and element in a metal tube Contains NO stuffing. The rebuildable clearos come with heads (coil+ wick) that can be cheaply and easily replaced. When the head burns out simply unscrew the old head out and screw in new head- takes 10 secs.

Atomizer a device used to "atomize" juice
Cartridge a tube with a "filler" material (fiberous like a ciggie filter) (( Blu refill))
Cartomizer ( cartridge in a tank)
Clearomizer a normally clear tank with a wick and coil that atomizes juice
RBA ReBuildable Atomizer ( has a tank; wick and coil that is replaceable, hand made coil)
RDA Rebuildable Dripping Atomizer (requires dripping juice, a few drops at a time into it quite often, also wick and coil hand made)

A cartridge is not what blu uses. Those are cartomizers. When e cigarettes first came on to the market they were a 3 piece design. A little cigarette looking battery, a small atomizer, and a cartridge filled with stuffing and e liquid to go over the atomizer. SmokeAnytime - SmokeAnywhere How it Works
Most of the cigarette like e cigs on the market today are 2 piece design. A battery and a cartomizer. A cartomizer has coils and stuffing. You can buy them in many different sizes styles and brands. You don't have to put them in a tank. You can if you want to :) Here's a pic. You'll notice on the box it says..atomized cartridge..that's a throw back, because cartridges were there own thing. This is a cartomizer it does both. Holds e liquid and vaporizes. Boge Low Resistance Cartomizers (5)
