I was a bit confused by this at first as well. Fortunately, I have a good relationship with my local B&M shop, and the cashier showed me how to remove the cap from the tank. If you take the tank out of the eRoll, notice that the cap can be pulled off relatively easily. The caps look like this:

That's the way I fill mine.
In fact, I generally fill up 5 each night and carry them in a small Altoids can. Then, at the end of the day, I take the empty tanks out, remove the caps and wash them out. I leave them soaking in water over night and then leave them to dry on a towel for a day. Then I refill them before I put the cap back on and then fill up my Altoids can with full tanks in the morning. I have about 15 tanks in my rotation so that I always have about 5 drying, about five soaking, and five with me in the Altoids can - and one in my eRoll.
