Hello, I'm new to vaping and I'm having problems with my Penguin... I got it a week ago and I've already blown like 5 coils... I chain vape alot and after a single day, it get dry hits. I don't understand why this happens... I use the .6 coils and my juice is 50% VG... It did it also with 30% VG juice. It's like after a day of vaping, the coil gets blocked and it's really hard for me to take a draw and boom, I get a dry hit...

I see people on here who's coils last for like 11 days, even a guy his wife's coil lasted nearly a month, and here I am having to change the coil everyday... I know it isn't the juice because it didn't do that to my Joyetech AIO...

I'm really lost and worried that I'm going to have to shell out another 40 bucks for an AIO if I can't figure this thing out... Thank you in advance!

A few thoughts:
  • Chain vaping increases the need for good juice flow, and it also increases the temp. Maybe try two penguins and rotate them between hits. These things are not known for good juice flow.
  • Juice can still matter. If there is a lot of sweetener in your juice it will unconditionally clog your coil faster.l Just because the same juice worked in another atty doesnt really prove much, these coils are different than most. I run unflavored in mine. Unflavored reduces the gunk build up on any coil.
  • If you scroll up you will see the 50% airflow restriction I did, and others as well. The advantage to this quick and easy mod is that it helps pull the juice into the coil. I am going a week on a .6 coil now, and no noticeable decrease in performance. I dont chain vape often though, and seldom more than 2-3 hits when I do.

Hi , Do as @mikepetro indicated , or simply tape over 1/2 air intake. Also it is very very important to prime any new coil fully. I'm on day 13 of my .25 coil with restricted air intake. Mike breaks it all down very well in his pictorial posts , lots of info.

Thank's a lot. I must have missed your post because the directions you give are on point. I'll try it out, hopefully I'll see an improvement.

Please let us know how you make out. Also I would add that a few pokes (gently) with a small pin into the cotton at the throat of the ceramic where juice enters could help . I did this on mine and have had 0 (zero) dry hits. I can't say for certain that it helped , but I can say for certain that it didn't hurt.

I would try but I currently don't have a small pin in my apartment! If the 50% blocked airflow doesn't help enough, I'll be sure to try that on my next coil! Thanks!

  • I vape unflavored, so you may have different results with flavored juices. But with unflavored I will sometimes get that "ever so slightly" scorched tasting hit. Not a full on Devils .... burnt hit, just slightly scorched. When I get those I "STOP", if I hit it again I know I will get Devils .... next time. I will cover the air channel with my thumb and do a couple of dry puffs without firing, and without airflow. That creates enough vacuum to pull some juice into the coil. I am usually good to go after that.
  • The other thing is the juice level window in the Penguin SE can be hard to see. If you ever let you tank run dry and get a single Devil .... hit, that coil is shot, there is no salvaging it. I make it a habit to fill my tanks when I see only about 25% in the window.
  • When refilling the the tank, I know you can push it and put 9ml in the tank. That actually works against you as it creates more vapor-lock inside the tank. I have found much better results by filling the tank only about 90% and leaving a nice little air bubble in it.

Devils .... hit  you are so right , this coil won't recover from one of those. Other advice is all good also. So far since Aug 1st haven't had a DB hit on any of the 3 tanks I have going. Different flavors , 2 are 70/30 and 1 is 50/50 juice. One thing I do also is that I will 'No Fire' draw on the tank that was sitting idle , when I change flavor tanks. Another thing I occasionally do is run a Q-Tip down the mouthpiece until I hit bottom and twist a few turns to mop up any condensate / juice over run. You may have to twist the cotton a bit thinner of the Q-Tip first , depending on brand thickness. Great advice also on not letting the tank get too low. :thumb:

Excellent observations! I have experienced everything you described as well. Except for the unflavored juice, that is. :D I don't have my SE version with the juice window in it yet, so I am in the habit of pulling out my tank and checking it periodically to ensure that it doesn't run dry. "Devil's ...." is evil, lol! :)

Another great tip! I am the Q-tip Queen, lol. I love how leak-free this device is. The only time I have ever had an issue with leakage was when I didn't lock my Penguin before I threw it in my purse and it fired until I created a bubble in the tank. The tank still held juice but I did notice some leakage around the bottom so I realized that it warped the tank just enough to not have that nice, tight seal around the silicone. Staying on top of condensation has made this device the least leaky device I have ever owned.

I'm actually having a lot of problems with the leaking on this device. The juice leaks out of the coil and ends up burning on the battery which is pretty disgusting. I now have to take out the cartridge every now and then to wipe off any juice that leaks. :( Guess I maybe got a faulty cartridge... Oh well, I can live with it until I get a new one.

I've had this happen on 1 tank/coil. Remove the coil , dry all the edges of the ceramic, make sure no liquid is on the outer edges of coil. Take a Q-Tip and run it along the inner edges of the silicone tank insert making sure it's nice and dry , re prime the coil making sure the outer parts are still nice and dry, you'll want both the outer edge of the coil and the inner edges of the insert to be dry where they fit together, re insert coil and try that It stopped it for me. Actually had to do this twice on one tank a few days apart. hope it helps

Am I the only one having problems with these? I've tried every suggestion on this forum, and all I get is dry, harsh, coughing, choking hits. Makes no difference which coil I use, the results are the same.
Do understand, that once you get a single dry hit, that coil is shot, nothing will revive it. So trying something different on a coil that already had a dry hit wont help.

Describe what you are doing , step by step starting from opening the coil foil, maybe we can spot something.

I prime the coil, top and sides until it won't hold any more juice. Then I do dry pulls until I'm light headed, while vaping I always do some random dry pulls. I'm beginning to think these are just too strong for me. I have been subohming for over a year with out any problems, but I just can't get these to work for me. I have not burnt the coil, never let them run out of juice, and I've changed to new coils many times.

I'm also still getting dry hits... Ugh...

I open the coil, prime it with juice on both sides until it drips out, I then wait 10-20 minutes. I blocked 50% of the airflow with cotton like you showed us and I take a draw while closing off the airflow after every 2-3 hits. Still getting these massive dry hits after a single day's use... I lost the little metal thingy in the cartridge, could that have anything to do with it?

I lost my metal thingy too, havnt seen any negative effect yet.

What juice are you guys running? High VG can be a problem.

I failed to mention in my previous post that my juice is 30pg/70vg, would 50/50 work better with these coils.
I use 50/50 myself.

Also, I could see where cold weather could thicken juice and cause problems. I doubt that is an issue for most this time of year though.
