When I first got my stick with extra 510 and 901 adapters, I was very happy with the results.

But about a week later, anything that I vape through the stick tastes like smoke.
Tried all 801,901,510 atomizers. I though the filling was getting old so I changed carts a couple times, changed the filling to TPB, yet I'm having the same problem.

I though maybe the juice went bad. But it tastes normal in my 401/702.

What could be wrong?

I take that back.

I opened a new 510 atty, put TPB in the cart and vaped a bit.
The taste is good, but, when I took out the cart and inspected the atty, the following stuff is there:

Some strings of whatever that is seem to be coming from underneath the bridge...

Thats the fiberglass wick... It wicks from the bridge to the nichrome coil, it gos down and threw the heating element... its also stoping you heating element from burning up keeping it wet with juice. With out that your atty is usless unless you take of the bridge and drip directly on the coil...

Ok, but is it normal it that it sticks out like that?
Could that be the source of my smoked taste if it melted a bit to the mesh coating?

I've inspected both my 401 atties and none seems to have such a thing.

You atty will be fine with this pulled out, I pull this out of all my 510 atty's. I have experienced no performance loss whatsoever, actually there is a video floating around here somewhere with instructions on how to do this, but it is pretty simple as you have found out. At times these fibers can make their way to the coil and start to burn which will give off a bad burning taste and the only way to get rid of it is to pull them out, which is exactly what happened to me. Keep on vaping and dont worry about it they will be fine.

Just keep your atty wet and the wick won't burn. That's the best advice.

Some people have claimed that pulling the wicks out causes no problems, others have said it kills their atties. There were a couple threads on this very issue several months ago. IMO the wick is there for a reason and pulling it out isn't a good idea.

In the end it's your atty though, so do what you feel is best.

Still no luck :(

I threw away my other 302 atty that produced a horrendous smoked taste and ordered 2 new 302 atties from a different vendor.
First day everything was great, second day I started getting a bit of burned smell but topping up more frequently that went away.

Now, my cart is full of liquid, I drop 3 drops on the atty, vape a few minutes and the smoked taste is back.
On top of that it's leaky as hell from all that extra liquid I have to drop to keep it wet.

Heck, I think I waste more liquid by purging the atty/cart & leaks, that I use on actual vaping...

Looks like I'm having some kind of user error issues with anything that has a recessed atty, as I've never had such issues with any of my M series

What could I be doing wrong?

I've tried another liquid and I actually might have an issue with the manual switch (always used auto until i got the stick)
Looks like I may be holding the button too long. I've been experimenting and when I release it before it starts to turn blue, and wait 10 secs between usage, I seem to eliminate any taste issues.

I'm back to my regular liquid and I'll report back.
