Jucing? Anyone else do it?

Have you ever used just plain mixed green in a juice? I have some that I probably need to use in the next few days, but I'm not sure how they'll do in a juicer. I think it's a mix of Romaine, Spinach, and something else. Any experience?

I forget if you said what kind of juicer you have. If you're using a blender to make smoothies, you can throw in almost anything including all kinds of greens. If you have a strainer type that filters out the pulp, it's been my experience that you need to put the greens through in small bunches, followed by harder things like carrots or apples to force the leaves through the machine. Then add another small bunch of greens, following by more solid material, etc. I juice wheat grass and cilantro and parsley this way all the time, but have a hard time getting them to go through my Jack LaLanne by themselves without clogging.

Tried it a few days ago and forgot to post on here. It is a kind of bitter taste. It honestly tastes like "Green", the color green. That's the best way to describe it. When you look at Kale and you assume what it tastes like: That's what it tastes like. It wasn't horrible though.
That's whst I thot. Now to recall what the health benefit from "bitter" veggies is ...

If you like carrot juice....in many areas you can ask at the supermarket for horse carrots. Those are the less-than-perfect carrots that don't get put out on display. They have cracks or funny shapes but are perfectly good. I usually buy a 25 lb bag for about $8.
LOL! I had no idea they had such things! I would have had to answer both as to whom they were for!

I just got off a huge juice cleanse.
I lost 20 lbs or so, mostly green juices.
I will say before careful, I've done it a few times, but made the mistake of flushing my system too quickly.drinking, parties, and crap food stuffed up my body, and I juiced beets daily. They flush your kidneys better than anything, but cleanse too fast and you will get a kidney stone.
Don't juice beets too often, or Other strong flushing antioxidants.
Otherwise juice rules

Oh good info! Umm - in a pinch, could canned beets be used or is there too much sodium? I generally go for frozen before canned but ...
Is there a book or website you would recommend to reaf up on what is considered "strong"?

With wheat, dairy & egg white allergies, some days the only word to describe how I feel is "toxic". I've been thinking it would be a good way to quick use up mom's over-purchased produce. Just never occurred to me to toss in the green leafy's.

The last time I used the Vita Mix was to grind some alfalfa cubes for an older horse! :D

Broodwich - hope you find Fire Your MD as amusing (as well as educational) as I do! I wonder what an initial consultation w/ a Naturalpathic doctor would cost ....

I will say: I would not buy a Jack Howeveryouspellhislastname juicer. It's effectively a blender that sprays the juice out while it blends. A TON of juice is wasted. Get a masticating juicer. They squeeze the juice out and also allow you to easily juice things such as wheatgrass.

Masticating juicers also produce far less oxidation and heat degredation of vital amino acids.
Carrot juice keeps 3 days from a masticating vs a day in a centrifigual juicer.
Also leafy greens are wasted in anything but a masticating.
There are a few really cheap hand crank masticating juicers thst work great for leafy greens, sprouts, grasses, and various fungus that are juicable.
Have you guys head of kumbucha and how easy it is to grow and consume!
Its a complex colony of fermented goodies, but tastey, helps animals hair, and the colony of bacteria form a living bandage on scrapes, bonding to damaged cells, while keeping germs out... and its naturally carbonated :D

While it's not a masticating juicer, I don't find that the JLL wastes much juice. The pulp is very dry. It isn't a blender in any sense of the word. The JLL uses a flat grinding blade that shreds the material and uses centrifugal force to separate the juice from the pulp. I don't suppose it can compare to a Champion, but it costs a third as much.

I've brewed kombucha for nearly 30 years. It's one of the most amazing tonics I know of.

Just had my lunch juice. Going strong on my fast. I've been doing Kale, Celery, Cucumber, Pear, Lemon juice, and Parsley. Also drinking green tea in between. I figure if I end up feeling very hungry later I'll have an apple, as long as it's something raw. But I'm feeling good so far. I could definitely do this once a week. Feel good and have plenty of energy, even went shopping this morning!

I own a JLL machine, the power juicer model. You think that pulp is dry? Not hardly. You can actually run the pulp from it through a higher quality juicer and get MORE JUICE. The machine was great when it first hit the market, but like the ego - it's time is basically over and sure it may work for some things but eventually it's time to move on to a bigger better model. I would never actually suggest a JLL to anyone UNLESS they were absolutely strapped for time and need to juice in the 5 minutes it takes to juice with that thing. It absolutely shreds through the veggies - but granted the price is not as much juice yield. And, as pointed out earlier, less amino acids and more oxidation.

It's still better to use that than none at all though!

Same here, just makes you feel so good! Even after a year I'm still on one of those cheaper juicers that I know partly oxidizes things, buuuttt I still can't get around to spending $300 on a proper one :-( Oh well, I know I'm still getting the nutrients cuz I can feel the diff! And good luck to you, hopefully you can just reverse that borderline diabetic part. Sometimes if I feel myself slackin, I'll watch a documentary on how horrible processed foods are to pump myself up again lol.. but seriously, that works for me :p

What about the sun dried tomatoes? The Broodwich cannot be taken apart or disassembled!

I've started taking a new vitamin daily now too. I used to take them all the time and decided it's time to do it again. I use my strong powerful flavor juice to help wash the really bad taste of the vitamin down.

What vitamin are you taking that tastes so nasty??

I take a daily vitamin and a daily fish oil. I have noticed the fish oil REALLY helps. I have not so good knees, and when I'm taking the fish oil I notice there is a lot less "cracking and creaking" when I bend at the knees.

Have any of you seen the movue "Forks Over Knives"? (Surgeons knife)
It was borrowed to me over the weekend. Wish I had time to watch it again. Really eye opening - 2 guys did seperate ( & different) studies over several years, came same conclusions .... Trailer & info at website of same name. The couple that loaned it said "you may be wish you had'nt seen it afterward." They were right. LOL ... sometimes ignorance can be bliss.

I'm pretty sure I saw that on Netflix but wasn't sure if I'd like it. I will go back and check it out.

Forks over knives is a little too... Veganism liberal for my tastes. They're ultimately right about their message, but push it a bit too far. What a lot of people don't realize is veganism is really about as unhealthy of a diet as someone can have. Supplements can't do everything. Ask any doctor if they'd rather you be vegan, or just eat healthy, and the answer will be the same 100% of the time.

Except pork. Screw pork - keep that stuff away from you.

Ya I'm not too big on the whole vegan thing either. I completely understand if someone wants to be a vegetarian b/c they don't like the way the majority of the animals we slaughter are treated; but if you're really worried about it you could buy milk and cheese thats from free range animals or whatever, which means you could eat the meat too really lol. Ya I don't see the point in cutting it completely out of your diet. But then again I also don't think we need meat every day, especially red meat.

But there are so many different opinions on health none of us will ever agree on everything :p
