Hello, I was using a ce4 and mainly vape RY4 18mg 50/50. It is so good in the ce4, but on the protank I get no taste or bad taste. I have a vaper friend at work and she gave me some caramel flavoring and it seems to have fixed the protank no flavor problem. Previously had tried the upside down silicone and removing one flavor wick which helped a little, but not enough. What juice do I need for the protank is 50/50 ok or should it be a different mix to help it get a better flavor. I notice some sites like ecblends have extra flavor you can add is that recommended? I like the protank as it is glass and I don't have to worry about it, but I have to admit even with the ce4 cracking the taste is like night and day and if I can't get the taste right I'm just going to go back to the ce4. With that said if I can get the taste of the protank to match the ce4 it would be absolutely perfect. Any help appreciated.

Well, given that you've tried flipping the silicone cap and removing flavour wicks - I can only think that either you've a faulty atomiser (what resistance is it, btw?), or you're just not used to the "airy" draw of the ProTank, and BCC devices generally. Your vapour won't be as "warm" as with top-coil devices, like you're CE4.

All that said, I've a friend who runs a lot of RY4 through his ProTank, and I think the "airy" draw on it brings out the sweetness much more - and that makes it taste significantly different than it does in top-coil devices; less "rich" methinks.

One final thing I'll say - if you want the optimal performance from your ProTank, you should look into cotton re-wicking. You can easily slide out the silica wick in the ProTank coil and replace it with a thin piece of rolled cotton - there's tutorials everywhere on ECF. Honestly, the cotton wick on a ProTank is a superior vape - and, from what I can tell, less airy too!

Hope this helps

It's also possible that the power is too high, which doesn't allow the juice to wick fast enough.

I'm using an ego battery. I'm unsure about the ohms and wattage thing. I am not able to set or modify the batteries wattage. I have a mini protank 2 v2 and am using one of the two coil heads that came with it.
You may not have variable voltage, but you are able to change the wattage.

Each coil head has a resistance level, such as 1.5 ohms, 2.2 ohms, and so forth. The resistance is engraved in tiny numbers on each Kanger coil head base with an omega (Ω, representing "ohm"). It looks like this.

Your voltage may be fixed, but your wattage can be changed by changing the resistance of your coil head.

Let's say your battery fires at 3.4 volts. A 2.2Ω coil at 3.4v means you're vaping at just over 5 watts. A 1.5Ω coil at 3.4v, however, would mean you're vaping at almost 8 watts. (Here's a chart and a calculator that will help you figure that out.) Even if you don't actually know your battery's voltage, you can see what effect different resistances generally have on the wattage.

If you're getting dry hits, it may mean that your power is too high (in other words, your watts are too high) for the juice to wick adequately. If you need to, you can lower the wattage by using a coil head with more resistance, such as swapping a 1.5Ω coil for a 2.2Ω coil. :thumb:

Thank you for explaining that to me! I was so lost!

I am no expert, but this sounds like your problem to me. How long have you been using this coil? Sounds like it's time to change it out or re-wick it

I bought it on Tuesday. This has been a problem since day 1. The caramel helped so I posted this hoping to try and find if I just need extra flavor juice or a different mix than 50/50.

Have you tried a protank mini base on the protank? I like the draw better and I think it helps the flavor a little. I am also about to do a review on the Protank 3, which really fixes the flavor problem and has way better vapor production if you don't mind a warmer vape.

Protank review here with some tips: http://vapingnerd.blogspot.com/2013/10/kanger-protank-review-static-tip-stats.html

I don't have a protank, only the mini and I'd really like to not have to go out and buy another tank.

What are talking about mini protank base on a protank you know that they are different size right?

The mini base screws into the protank, switching it to ego threaded. Here's a pic of the original protank with a mini base... way better air flow than the 510 connection.

Sorry, didn't see mini mentioned anywhere in your original post, and I'm not sure how you can get more flavor out of the mini protank. I have been using the Protank 3 for about a week now and it's freaking amazing for flavor and vapor production, but I know you said you didn't want to buy new hardware.

Thank you! I also saw a video where someone screwed in the mini base to the protank they were very surprised that it worked!

Ok, everyone I'm trying to figure this ohm/volts thing. I have a non variable 1100 mah ego battery. It is my understanding it is 3.4v a 1.8 ohm coil would give me 6.4 watts and a 2.5 ohm would give me 4.6 watts. Which is better the ones I have now are 2.5's but I've been having problems with no taste (most the time), bad taste (sometimes), and burning (after 2 days). Which should I get I'm thinking the 1.8, cause I've read people enjoy vaping around 7-8 watts and the 1.8 gives me higher watts, but if the watts is going to burn the coil and I'm already having that problem with the 2.5's I'm confused more now, would I need something higher than 2.5? Any help still confused!

Also, madqatter mentions need higher ohms in another post I see that, but where can you buy higher ohm than 2.5 thats all I can find. Unless I want to make my own and I can tell you I'm not really into that. That is why I quit vaping a few years ago was fussing with the 510 so much. I want an easy non hassle vape I'm getting discouraged.

Your juice and personal tastes matter. If it were me, I would prefer the 1.8 ohm coil or, at most, 2.2 ohm.

I've been having problems with... burning (after 2 days).
I rotate my heads every time I fill a tank. If I open a tank, I remove the coil, put it into a vodka soak, and put a clean coil in.

You shouldn't need anything higher. :)

Ok, thanks again, so is it possible to soak a burnt taste out of a coil head without any other hassling with it (wondering if I should do that and not throw them away)? I had to do that with the tank once cause the burnt taste wouldn't go away so I had to take it all apart and scrub the glass and metal parts. I like the protank, but I am just getting really frustrated with it. I know there is no such thing as a hassle free device, but how much more money am I gonna spend (feels like I'm wasting it) before I can figure this all out cause right now it's not an enjoyable experience.

I feel so lost cause I keep reading how people are chain vaping, how their heads last weeks, etc and it's like I don't think I've had one even work half a day yet. I spend more time fidgeting then vaping.
