Me, too, Miata. Especially when tasting, I will remove the used cotton wick, retire then rewick for each flavor just to make sure I'm getting only that one juice.
Incidentally, am I missing anything noteworthy by not using silica wicks? I've never used one; learned organic cotton from a friend and have stuck to it.

The only thing I feel like I'm missing when using cotton over silica is the ability to dry burn and change flavors without rewicking.

I'm kinda surprised. Obviously multiple ppl have had similar issues so I can't argue. I know I've ordered a few from them and my father has ordered a lot and neither of us have had the weird chemical w/e taste. Now i did get some that where just horrid to me, like the koan velvet milkshake. I've also tried all of halo's coffee flavors and concluded coffee belongs in a cup not in a vape. Maybe check out the vaper girl. I can't vouch for them first hand but they get their nic from tobacco grown in NC. I'm finicky about where my nic comes from and I was about to try them when I was allured into DIY. Havn't bought a premade juice in over a month.

Btw you mentioned letting the juice sit cap off for awhile: as I understand it the breathing typically only helps liquids that have alc in them. Hope your next order bares more fruit!

@Erazzz - I'm just now trying the "some PG" just to see if that's what clicks with the throat hit portion.
My experience on 100% VG with Velvet Cloud Vapor has been excellent. My favorites from there, and the two I exclusively vape, are Strawb Gwab and Peach Tea. Good Lord, those two are good. Summer Sweet comes in third. They have some good ones like Monkey Business (hot cocoa?) that taste great on my mod, but were HORRID on my Provari. I don't know enough to know why, but YMMV. They do claim all-organic, all-natural, all-American. Very clean tasting. But after some 15 flavors from there, I need an additional vendor.

Velvet Cloud is on my "to try" list. Heard a lot of good things about them, just need to vape up some of the juices I already have before I add to the hoard  Their flavors sound wonderful!

Realizing that taste and smell are both really subjective, I was hoping someone here could tell me if they have experienced a similar issue.
I have tried about 50 juices or so, to date, and am always interested in trying more flavors, at least until I come to about 5 that I want to settle on. So far, I have two absolute favorites and two pending. The remainder of the juices I've tried were either "I'll keep for a rainy day" or I gave away instantly because it would never, ever happen.

I've been sticking to 100% VG this time.
And finding that many of the flavors I bought from my favorite vendor at this point were very similar in TH and flavor profile, I decided to do some research to find another good vendor with a bigger selection. I landed on Virgin Vapor and reading around, it seemed like many people like this vendor, so I decided on that.

After about a week, the much awaited juices arrived. Well-packaged and none leaked enroute. Good.

2mcexw7.jpg

I don't expect all of the juices I order to all be excellent. And if I hit 50%, I am satisfied. Heck, if I find one flavor I really like, I am good.
But with this order....I liked exactly 0%. And unlike my other vendors where I simply didn't like the flavor, taste or hit -- all of these bottles had the same issue.
They all had this back-end taste of melting rubber or plastic. I can't even describe it, really. Somewhat gasoline-like but heavy on the tongue and very rubbery and offensive (and overwhelming) taste.

Wait it out. Steep, right?

Now it's been about 18 days since I received them. Since day one after trying all of them once, I have left them opened and airing with a good shake every two days. I didn't steep in hot water, etc. but this was the best I could do. After one week, I tried one and some of the melting plastic flavor was slightly diminished but totally not vapeable for me. Two weeks later, I tasted again and still, not really something I would voluntarily vape. I can't!

I'm willing to chalk it to a loss. As of last night, the bottles are closed again and just hanging out in my growing juice basket where juices go to die, or get picked up by a friend of mine who is less picky (and extremely lucky).

But I did want to order from a different vendor that this forum seems to highly recommend -- Mt. Baker Vapors. (NOTE: in my original post, I had said "Velvet Vapors" not Mt. Baker.) I have about 7 flavors selected, including the highly recommended Butterscotch and Moo Juice, etc. but I'm actually a bit scared to place this order.
What I have in my cart right now is as follows, all in 12mg nicotine:

20 PG/80 +1 shot
  • Banana
  • Watermelon
  • Ocean Breeze

Max VG
  • Strawberry Shortcake +1
  • Moo Juice +2
  • Butterscotch +1

70VG + Distilled H20 (just bec I feel like trying it)
  • Mango Tea +1

Keep in mind that I've been on 100% VG but did feel like testing out some PG, because if there is one thing I sort of miss, it's the throat hit, and I read some PG can increase that. (Correct?) Incidentally, I wanted to try Thug Juice but they are out. I'm also unfamiliar with this "added shot" business; I read a few threads on this forum to learn more about it and decided on these + numbers. I'm open to any suggestions on changing PG/VG ratios.

Now, my regular vendor is Velvet Cloud Vapors, which I was lucky to find via a friend of mine. My favorite flavors that I vape are from there. And while I may not like all of their juices, I know they are all vapeable even if I don't LIKE the flavor. With Virgin, I seem to have encountered a 100% failure rate. Even previously from ElixirLiquid.com -- I liked some of their juices, just not all.

By trade, I taste food and critique it for a living. So maybe my palate and sense of smell are overly sensitive -- maybe. BUT, I find it hard to believe that mine is such that a flavor 99% of the people seemed to love is downright offensive to me. And given that all of the flavors were that horrid to me, I can't even say it's a bad batch of one flavor.

So I ask you guys this to see if (1) anyone else has experienced this and maybe figured out what the issue was, and (2) if anyone has had a similar experience from Velvet Vapor where I am hoping to place my next order?

I'm not really willing to invest in an ultrasonic cleaner and go through the whole proper steeping method. If needed, I don't mind waiting a week or two to start a juice, if it's really worth it. And as mentioned, I only want 3 more juices I really LOVE to have 5 available at all times.

Any help or advice you can offer would be much appreciated!
When I first began trying different juices I was a big fan of VV because of the newness. In the long run, I am not a huge fan of VV. I have a great thread called Best Gourmet Ejuice. You should definitely check it out for new inspiration! Enjoy!

same here on the VV juices. I had tried them for the first time a couple years ago and every single juice tasted like gassy plastic alcohol. even after a couple of months the taste was still there. fast forward to about 5 months ago when I decided that maybe it was me the first time and now that im a more seasoned vaporor that i would give them another shot. no difference, the taste was the same. also it didn't make any difference to what type of device I had used them on. a couple years ago I was a regular carto guy and now a rebuildable fool that uses micro coils and cotton. anyways I know taste is subjective but with so many tasting this plastic alcohol fumes this makes me wonder why some absolutely love this juice? whats up with this? anyways gracek, you mentioned about mountbaker vapor, although I don't order to much from them, I do really like one you mentioned earlier. the moo juice is pretty darn good. and if you like a good caramel, I find theirs to be really good as well.

I've only ordered one juice from them, French Toast. I'd read the great reviews and in my desperate quest for a french toast vape, ordered it up. When it first arrived and I took the cap off, damn near got drunk off the fumes alone. Left it uncapped for about 5 days, closed it back up, and put it away. Shake and check every few days or so, smells and takes like sickly sweet maple syrup. It's been about 2 1/2 months now, and as of this morning, still sickly sweet syrup. Sigh. And I really want french toast :(

I ordered some from vv last week and they should arrive tommorow from the usps tracking. I have done a lot research on them and I have read a lot if other posts where members have said the same things you have about the taste and smell. I have also read a lot of great reviews too. So I decided to order a sample pack from their absolute line thinking that the alcohol may be the problem with the taste and smell. I'm hoping the absolute line will alleviate those problems because there is no alcohol use and hopefully it will also not need any time to steep either. So maybe try something or sample pack from their absolute line? I also ordered wintergreen from their regular line as well so I definetly compare them. Also like others have said some of their flavors do not play nice with plastic eating at them. I guess they can turn plastic takes murky and crack them, I guess that is why they come in glass bottles?? One of their representatives told me that first hand and also told me I should vape certain flavors only in a glass tank. So maybe what your tasting is plastic?? I would try one of the flavors in the glass tank and see if there is any defference in taste. I also ordered some ice beard from vcv I'm waiting on in the mail too and I can't wait to try it. I really haven't found any bad reviews about vcv and I noticed you mentioned them and said you liked them...I just wish they had a few more flavors

Good luck!

VV uses alcohol based flavourings. i order 7 at once. i shook them. let them sit uncapped for 1 week. re capped shook alot. uncapped for 2 more days.

initially they tasted like chemicals and flower. and smelled of nail polish. they tell you theyre super concentrated flavours and in alcohol. the alcohol has to dissipate. or youll taste it.

someone was hating on the french toast. omg. at first i admit it was was off. i think they should treat it liek the kona velvet and steep 2 weeks before sending. it allows the cinnamon and egg and bread and syrup and hint of butter to mold well together. also if i remember correctly. this past 2 months. theyve hired some new trainees. you can ask them if its normal and see if they can help the problem out.

I'm just going to paraphrase something that Cory Ruten (Dark Side Creations) said in a web cast:

"I started making juice because everything I tried was swill."

That was also my experience, and it lead me to his product. There are many variables involved in making a juice that has a shelf life of more than a week, and this is not to mention all the cheats juice producers practice.

There are most certainly lots of good producers out there, but it's safe to say there are many more bad ones. Also complicating matter is the fact that a lot of people have been raised on artificially flavoured food, and often what they rave about tastes like chemicals to me, for example.

see what ive noticed is people love the sweet versions of things. which to me tastes really artificial...not saying i havent liked some but those who have used those mainly. when they switch to like vv which is all organic. the tastes are thrown off because its missing that candy feel :/

VV was one of my first vendors. I have since gotten some stuff from there in swaps, and I can tell you that something changed. That taste you describe is one that I can smell. It's like everything is loaded with alcohol. I sent it off to someone else and they said it had a strong chemical smell.

No idea what has changed, just that I can't vape VV stuff anymore.

Dripeeze is pretty darn good though.

This was my experience with Virgin Vapor too. They were my first online order so I really didn't have a basis to compare. Also it was my first 100% VG juice (I got Root Beer and Spicy Vanilla Chai). I didn't know if it was because it was VG and I just wasn't used to that or what, but now I have some other high VG juices that don't taste like a rubber bottle stopper.

To be fair, now it's been about a month since I ordered them, I tried the Root Beer again and it had improved quite a lot.

I have noticed that mine were best after 2 months. But they weren't unvape-able for me before that. The last order I got was in November so I don't know if the "change" happened before or after that.

I do know that sometime in early 2013 they had to change bases because their original base (Eco-Pure) is no longer made. I never had the original base so maybe they've been trying other mixes to get closer to what they used to be. Dunno, but there seems to be a lot more negative comments on VV than there used to be.

And to be even more fair I just re-tried the Vanilla Chai and it is extremely good now.

So maybe the moral of the story is... at least a month aging/steeping with Virgin Vapor?

I have a couple of MBV that have likewise been in steeping for a week and are not nearly ready yet, so long steeping times might just be a thing with some eLiquids.

organic? now im just listing things mentioned here. if so organic why the alcohol fumes? chemical tastes? takes months to steep? reacts to plastic tanks? if that's whats organic is all about then keep it.

No experience w VV, didnt like the sound of any of their flavors. Mt Baker is awesome, especially for the price. I never order any extra flavor though, I find it to have plenty as is. The fruity flavors usually require less steep time. I'm vaping razzle dazzle right now:)Pg does in fact determine vapor production and throat hit. VG carries flavor

the natural flavors are extracted into a super concentrated extract with alcohol as a base. theres no artificial flavourings. alcohol flavors cause chemical tastes. the alcohol needs time to evaporate.

As an herbalist i can tell you that tinctures (herbs in 95% alc) start really taking on a rubber taste after about 1 year depending on the temperature they are stored at. Also in the bio-diesel community, it is known veggie oil breaks down rubber over time which is why you have to swap out all your rubber fuel lines with pet lines. I've reused some tincture bottles and some rubber droppers are older than others, i can tell they are going. I they made silicone rubber droppers that would probably solve the problem. I'm not saying this is where the rubber taste is coming from but, the fumes from alcohol to start deterioating the rubber right away, apply heat, such as hot water steeping and you get an accelerated degradation of the rubber. I'd look into maybe caps for home use storage of juices, and have some dropper bottles for out and about. just my 2 cents.
