Hello, I recently was introduced to vaping thanks to my coworkers, and I own what I've read to be an eGo-T 650 mAh non-VV. Thanks to the generosity of my boss, I've discovered I dislike bottom-wick tanks (both the Kanger T3's I'm "borrowing" leak with light usage), and I've been using what the local Vaporshop says is a vivi nova, which I love. Also loaned to me (he calls it loaning and then tells me to keep them o_O).

I've decided to "go pro", so to speak, and look to invest in a Provari. So I thought I'd ask some questions.

I'm pretty sold on the Provari, there's no question about that. However, so far I've only been using wick tank atomizers. My lingo is way off, but I know nothing about this direct dripping stuff, other than it seems it has a tiny wick inside that I directly apply the juice to? I used to smoke my analogs mostly when I drive, so this seems a little inconvenient. I've found out about the fantastic vapormate, and might be inclined to use that. It's hard to tell the difference between cartomizers, atomizers with or without tanks, wicks, what to call them etc.

I usually lurk for quite a while before posting anything, but I'm required to make 5 posts here, so that encourages an educational conversation. I have been a bit overwhelmed by how deep the vaping world is.

Onto my next question (there is no order to my post! Egads!). I've seen steampunk mods and so forth, I was curious as to how I could go about steampunking my provari, so long as the thought of modifying it doesn't horrify anyone. Vent69 seems (understandably) overwhelmed by requests, so I'm resorting to the good ole' DIY. The provari is stainless steel, and while soldering doesn't shy me away, I'm not about to weld a PV. I figure a sleeve of sorts would be my best option.

Any helpful tips and clarification would be much appreciated :vapor:

Hi, Narkotiq, welcome to ECF.

Nice boss!!

Most delivery devices can leak a little. Some of it is condensation from normal vaping. Sometimes, especially on the bottom coils like the T3, the wick has been disturbed, so it needs a bit of rehab. (Use the search bar up top for threads on leaking Kanger.) Sometimes the head itself has just come slightly unscrewed, and just needs to be tightened up.) T9op coil devices, like the Vivi Nova, Stardust and such, can have the same issues, with similar fixes.

Yeah, dripping and driving don't mix!

While the Provari is no doubt a well made and durable power source, it might be smarter to start with something a little less spendy - unless you're sure you're going to stick with vaping. Vamo is a good, lower cost alternative.

In any event, a higher end power source doesn't need to be used exclusively with any top end. They'll all accept just about anything, although some might require a 510 to Ego adapter.

I do not have a Provari, however, from the Provape site I am seeing an external diameter dimension of .90". From that I went and checked the dimensions of copper piping, and see that 1" Type K (residential thick walled pipe) has an I.D. of .995". Seeing as the "Steampunk" look seems to use copper pretty often, using some piping along with some caps of standard 1" dimensions might be a place to start?

If you sleeve it carefully you won't be messing with original finish and thereby won't reduce the resale value if you ever decide to sell it. Just a thought.

Good luck and welcome to the forum. :toast:

@DavidOck
I suppose I was just a little concerned that there was a little juice on the contact of my eGo battery. It doesn't leak hardly more than a droplet, definitely doesn't fill up the "basin" around the contact. I tried some of the tips I found searching, and while it didn't really fix the problem so much, it improved the hit! :D I can live with that.

I'm definitely sticking to vaping. I like the effects of nicotine, although I hate the adverse health effects of cigarettes. I went cold turkey as soon as I started vaping, and have had absolutely no desire to smoke a cigarette. As a matter of fact, I dislike the smell of smoke and have been trying to get friends that smoke to switch to vaping so I wouldn't still be getting it second hand xD And for their benefit, too

@23skidoo
That's an awesome idea! I doubt I'd turn around and sell it, but the fact that I wouldn't be modifying the actual body of the provari is a huge boon to me, and especially to the warrenty. And since I don't have to mess with modifying steel, I can go to town on my sleeve. You've already sparked ideas, such as getting the bronze provari and making cutouts on my sleeve that reveal the PV underneath, perhaps the logo.

I'm not shy to investing money into something if it means higher quality. As much as I'll be vaping (all the time lol), the investment will pay off for me. I began smoking when I was 15, and while I'm only 24, that's still 9 years longer than I should have been smoking anyway. I already feel better after just two weeks.

So my next question, what are some of the best tanks and dripping atomizers, if price doesn't matter? Even if it's only slightly better, that's where I'd spend my money. If I'm at home (now that I can smoke in my house), I'd probably drip, and just use a tank while driving or at work. I know it's all about preference, but quality is quality (hence the provari).

Hi Narkotiq,

If it's just a little, don't worry about it, just clean it off periodically. Not uncommon, and it may just be theT3 wants an extra "flavor wick."

And I wasn't trying to convince you to not get a Provari. Just that not everyone sticks with vaping, and it's one heck of an investment to one who falls "off the wagon"! And, with the changes in hardware, i.e. VW, it might be that there's a new Provari down the road that adds that feature. (No, I haven't heard any rumors to that effect, but with all the VW devices now on the market it makes sense that they might go that way as well?)

Search out Baditude here on ECF. He has some great blog entries on carto tanks. I've recently just gotten into them - and, as is my style, I started with the middle of the road hardware to see if I liked the experience, so haven't gotten into "high end" tanks. Yet :laugh:
