For me a lot of it was unconcious. Put one out light one up like a robot. When drinking and socializing it was more like 2+ PAD. When sober I would find myself in the midst of projects, light one, take a couple hits, set in ashtray and continue project breathing my own second hand smoke as my cig turned to ash in the tray! Lather, Rinse, Repeat. All habit. That is one of the things with e cigs that the same but different. It can sit there while your working and look like a cig, you can hit it like a cig, but when you put it down it doesn't burn away all the while engulfing you in death! My Grandmother died of oat cell cancer caused by second hand smoke (her own) doing just what I was. She lit it, hit it once in a while and the rest of the time it was in the ashtray giving off SHS while she crocheted. I think about that when I wear the shrug she made me.

It just sort of happens. When I started at 13, I would run outside the school between classes, light up and smoke a cigarette as fast as I could (really silly, wasn't it???). Guess that beginning became a habit, and I had trained myself to smoke as many cigarettes as I could in the shortest amount of time. And of course, a pack of cigarettes at that time cost 25 cents, easily affordable from my babysitting earnings!
