Pretty sure grandaddy would prefer it not to be grandma at this point also.

That may better be phrased using a newer model as the target.

In some circles, granddaughters, daughters and sisters are frowned upon as lovers. So still the potential for the same "moral" of the story.

:pop:

Not quite sure that's the same moral

Are we talking about the same kind of mechanical devices?

Interesting to know, thanks :)

You're in a very curious position with your experience. I wish I'd caught on from the outset and had my advice then. Go take a gander at Zen's close out at electronicstix for the Zenesis DXC-650 Copper, one of the hardest hitting, beefy authentics out there. The price leaves me breathless. Regardless of your resistance pref, this mod will give you rewarding results. I'm a big advocate of establishing baselines for worthwhile comparison. This would be a good one. As this line ends regrettably you may see some interesting savings from remaining B&M stocks. A pity the urge didn't strike you sooner to take advantage of spare parts sales. But some may re-post. If you can't bust the bill for that, try the Z2.2 DX Series. You simply can't get a better new authentic for less.

Over three years I've come to prefer original producers who have versatile interchangeability like Zenesis, Limitless, etc. The savings are impressive in the long run over auditioning dozens of unsatisfactory lesser alternatives. A habit I largely avoided in amassing my personal collection after the first year. Have a variety of VW devices including a steammonkey ZNA-30 but excepting that device which qualifies as nirvana overall prefer nuances of variation in taste both in flavor and texture as you wind down from 4.2V. Variables tend to strain with battery drain introducing warmer subtleties which seem to me detracting of delicate accents from time to time. Do enjoy both but prefer the mech hands down.

Good luck Mat. :)

As plenty others have said,,,, You WILL quickly come to realize/notice/sense/feel/etc. when the Batt is getting weak and needs to tag-out. IF you will be Out-n-About for a while, just be sure and carry an extra on ya (protected so as not to touch anything metal), in your Vehicle, or in your Office.

As for what is "Better" Ohm+ or Sub-Ohm or Ultra Sub-Ohm,,,,, That's totally Subjective and as such is completely an Individual Preference & Choice.
Anyone who espouses or tries to tell you different or place Rank on such has a plethora of serious Narcissism Issues..... ;)

psst..... Ultra Sub-Ohm (<0.5) is clearly the far superior choice :D

Thanks :) Carrying spare batteries is second nature to me anyway, I must have dozens of those little plastic cases dotted about the place.
Agreed, +ohm vs sub ohm is entirely down to the individual, but I'm not really fussed on whether others think its good enough, I like anything between .35 and .50 in general :)

I know what you're thinking (DONT DO IT!!! YOULL BLOW UP AND DIE AND YOUR HEAD WILL FALL OFF AND THE VAPING COMMUNITY WILL IMPLODE BECAUSE OF YOUR SELFISH ACTIONS).

Well no, I wasn't thinking that at all. I've used nothing but mechs going on 3 years now, and would not use anything else. For most of that time I used clones, and had various issues with them, usually the switches, and then I got Poldiacs and have been happy ever since. The only issue I've had with a Poldi was that I was over-tightening the double screws in the switch, and it took me a while to figure that out, but I did, and all is well now. I'm happy :)

If you know your battery safety and check the resistance of your builds and make sure you have no shorts you should be fine. The thing with mechs is that your build is your control. If you are okay with that you will enjoy mechs. Just get good batteries and perfect your builds. You will want a 510 voltage checker to keep track of where your battery is at, though you can usually tell from how it's vaping.

You do want the mech with the least voltage drop you can get. I found that the authentics are the best bet for that and there are some very fine authentics out there, but even in that camp you can run into some losers, and there are instances in which the clone is actually better than the authentic. It's rare but it happens.

I wish you all the best with this :)

Thanks for the info there, really useful!
Another quick question which I have asked of a few trusted vape friends of mine but I always seem to get an ambiguous answer. "When should I swap my battery out?" Answer: "You will just know..."
I don't want to be taking my battery out to check the volts on my DMM every 20 minutes, is there a sure fire way? Or is it just as the vape diminishes?

I generally change out the battery in my mechs around 3.8 volts, sometimes 3.7. A DMM isn't a handy thing to be carrying around with you, and it's a bit cumbersome to use at work, so I have a 510 volt checker I carry with me. Just screw it into the top of your mech and push the button. Instant reading.

Sorry, that was a bit of a childish sentence. I have just seen a lot of threads where people express an interest in mechs and get warned rather heavily.
Not to say that is bad, as airing on the side of caution is always wise :).
My builds are consistent and I've been building quite a while, never had a short before. Always checked my ohms before and after pulsing, religious with my batteries, (not over charging, visual inspections as well as checking them regularly on a DMM).
I'd like to think I could use mechs safely, if only at higher ohms to start with, go easy on my batteries and get used to it all !

Well no, sorry, I'm over here in the colonies and I'm not sure what gets sold over there but you should be able to order from anywhere. Here's one that's cheap:

Inline Volt Meter - Clear

And here's another one:

Volt Meter 510 Connector by Tobeco

I love mine and would not be without it. I carry it with me at work, along with 3 Poldiacs topped with gennies and 8 Sony 18650 VTC4's. I work 18-22 hour shifts driving so I have to have backups and spares. Trust me, you don't want to carry a DMM in my situation.

Ya know, I think you are going to be fine with a mech and it might just turn out to be the thing for you. You never know until you get into it, but the simplicity of it has great appeal. I build for .7 ohm on my gennies and that's my sweet spot. Never had a problem with that using good batteries.

Yes, I've seen all the warnings and those who are leery of mechs for all the usual reasons. One guy at work asked me what settings I use on my vape, and I had to laugh. "Just one" I told him, "ON". I had to explain to him what a mech was and he said "Those things scare me!" Well if you know your stuff, use good batteries and build right there's nothing to be afraid of. I think most who warn about the dangers of mechs know very little about them and have just seen too many news articles about those who did very unwise things with them and vented batteries. That's all they know about mechs.

Vented battery = user error.

I'm really hoping so, it's always been more than just a way of quitting smoking to me.
I enjoy building coils, tinkering, fiddling about with tanks and bits and pieces.
I think stripping down a tank and cleaning it up and putting it back together is quite therapeutic actually :)
So yeah, quite looking forward to it all really!

Hey I'm so with you there! I love tinkering with my vapes! I broke down, cleaned, and rebuilt two gennies this morning, and then out of compulsion took apart the switches on two of my mechs and cleaned every part. I get like that in the mornings over coffee. I pull wicks, burn off coils rewick, re-coil if necessary, and generally fuss with it all for a couple hours.

I'm not satisfied until it's vaping grandly :)
