Hey guys

This has been really confusing to me, so I'm wondering if I can get some insight.

Wall of text incoming-

So I'm 21, I have smoked cigarettes since I was 16. I Just recently(about a month ago) switched to vaping. Haven't smoked a cigarette since the day my juice arrived in the mail.

On Sept. 11, I got my wisdom tooth removed. It was really tough because it was impacted and hurt REALLY bad for like a week. I was told I wasn't supposed to smoke/vape or anything with suction for 3 days. But I went in for a check up and they said to not smoke for at least a week-2 weeks so I didn't get dry socket.

Well, since I thought I couldn't go that long without smoking, I put gauze over where my wisdom tooth was and vaped as lightly as I could. I realized that the pain was just awful when I put the gauze over it so I tried to not smoke as much during the day to avoid the pain. On Sept. 15, for some insane reason, I just completely "forgot" that I smoked. I didn't 'crave' nicotine, which is really weird for me because I've always felt like I needed it. So I didn't vape the whole day/night.

The next day, I kept thinking like "how the hell is this happening?" And I kept thinking and thinking about it. I ended up filling my tank with a juice that had 0mg nicotine that I got for my boyfriend to try. I figured I'd vape that so I'd stop thinking so hard about it.. and I've just been smoking on that and I haven't even thought about nicotine. But like..how? Does it have something to do with the pain when I tried to vape for the first few days after the extraction?

I feel the 'crave' but not for nicotine. I'm fine with just vaping the flavor. I don't quite understand how this is possible considering I've smoked for 5 years and it's clearly not that easy to just quit smoking.

So if I don't need nicotine, why is it that I feel lost(for lack of a better word) when I don't vape the flavor?

Sorry again that this is so long xD (and I hope I made sense..lol)

Thanks :3

Hi @Mikayla and welcome to the forum. Congrats on your journey. Reaching zero nic in vape this fast is quite the accomplishment and very rare. It took me 6 months. For me the "habit" of having something in hand was probably the worst "addiction". I feel like I had mentally trained myself to relax with a cig in hand, but I enjoy vape so much more I find it more relaxing. I also have a fear of not having a vape close so I won't have any temptation to try a cig again. Everyone is different so we just have to do what works for each of us.

Enjoy the journey.

There's withdrawal from nicotine, but after that's over its all mental. I want from a pack and a half to vaping and dwindled down to 3 and 1.5mg of nic. I can go the whole day without it, without caring, and sometimes when I leave the house I don't even bring a vape. It wasn't like that with smoking, not at all. I was always looking for a way to smoke to get that fix, so I think that vaping is definitely easier to kick than cigarettes. But it depends on the person. If you're off nic, thats great. Make sure to keep it that way. When I started vaping I forced myself to completely give up smoking even if vaping didn't work out. It's just not an option for me anymore. I've got a carton of cigarettes I had left over from when I smoked and just knowing they're there forces me to believe that I can give it up for good. So, yeah.. If you got off nic, no matter how or why, I would keep it that way and let your body readjust to a life without it.
