I vaped back in 2013, then went back to smoking, and now got back into vaping. Much has changed and I know nothing now. My tax return is in, my birthday is ina week, so spend my money for me. What do I want to buy? I have a Wismec Realeux Gen 3 with a Crown U well III tank for now that I got at a brick and mortar. I’m okay with it, but there’s a lot more out there. I also have a Lost Vape Paranormal coming in the mail because it was pretty and shiny and expensive. What are the best sub ohm tanks out right now to go with it? I prefer ones where I can buy coils. I CAN build, but I don’t have time for that anymore. My mech mods and rebuildables are collecting dust.

Something with a rebuildable option available, I guess? I like having back up in case I’m out of coils. I prefer to buy them, but having the option to build is nice as I am a procrastinator and I often don’t order things on time.
Hmm.. there aren’t a lot of those. It was a thing that came and went. The only one I know of off hand that is still made is the smok tfv8 baby beast. The tfv12 has one too but iirc it’s rba only.

Personally I consider your crown 3 to be a superior tank.

Well it’s good to know that the vape shop I walked into did me well then. Since I knew nothing about all the new stuff out, I started at a local shop to get back into vaping. I do like that I get to experiment with temp control considering the coils are stainless steel. Temp control was just starting to come out when I went back to smoking so that was an area I didn’t get to mess around with really until now.

You Erlkonigin is still a great tank and still among the easiest to rebuild

I think it’s missing a piece. I need to check. I shared stuff with my now ex husband and things got mixed up and lost. I really need to sit down one day, pull it all out, and do a full accounting on what I have, what is missing what, and what I should toss, give away or trade.

I CAN build, but I don’t have time for that anymore.

You can buy pre-wound/pre-coiled coils, that you just need to install and wick, if you don't want to make your own. That saves some time.

Some US vendors carry them in various types of wire, styles of coil, resistances, etc. FastTech also carries lots of them for much less $, if you don't mind them taking about 2 weeks to get to you. I've been ordering both SS and Kanthal A-1 pre-wound coils from FT for about a year or so now, for between $3.49-$5.14 per 100 piece bag. Have had no problems with them at all. They even have a Mother's Day Sale going on now...where everything sitewide is 10% off with the coupon code MOM.

FastTech is also a great place to order factory drop-in coils from, for much less than US vendors sell them. Just make sure to do a search for "Authentic insert brand name and type Coils". You don't want the ones that are just called "Replacement Coils for ________".

Also, if you decide to try a Baby Beast Tank, you may want to get the Eleaf HW Coils (various ones like HW1, HW2, HW3, HW4 according to what wattage you vape at) for it, instead of the SMOK ones. There've been lots of quality control issues with the SMOK coils lately. Local vape shop owner has stopped ordering SMOK ones for all 4 of his stores, because of complaints. He now carries the Eleaf HW ones instead. Customers love that they last so long and work great! I've ordered them from FT for 2 friends who were going through the SMOK ones like crazy, and they love the Eleaf ones, too.

I think I’ll just stick with the simple stick in a coil and vape sub ohm tanks. To be honest with myself, I know anything I need to wick and what not will collect dust in my cabinet after I use it for a week. Right now, I’m filling a cart with any subohm tanks they made it on to more then one Best Tanks list around the web.

You might want to see my added edit comments in my last post about drop-in factory coils, from FT...and/or if you're thinking maybe about a Baby Beast tank.

Got one of those but I’m not using it. It came with my Alien, which died in three weeks. The coils I get for it vary too much. Some last a long while, others last a day. I also like that I can vape at higher power with the Crown due to better airflow. I also have a fairly old Kanger setup that came with a sub ohm tank I got right before going back to smoking but the tank for that is collecting dust and the unit only takes one battery so it doesn’t suit my current power needs. Probably why I wound up smoking... I got that so I could move away from building and mech mods due to time constraints and old fashioned laziness.

I use 5 original Crown tanks, 3 standard size and 2 mini's. I know the Crown 2 got terrible reviews on You Tube; the newer Crown 3 and Valarian got "mixed" reviews. My old school motto: "If it ain't broke, why try to fix it?"

Nice thing about the original Crown is that you get 4 options in coil resistances, so it's pretty easy to find one that suits your style of vaping.

  • 0.15 ohm Dual Ni200 Nickel Uwell Crown Sub-Ohm Coil - 400 to 600 Degrees Fahrenheit (TC)
  • 0.25 ohm Dual Stainless Steel Uwell Crown Sub-Ohm Coil - 80 to 120W
  • 0.5 ohm Dual Stainless Steel Uwell Crown Sub-Ohm Coil - 30 to 80W
  • 1.2 ohm Single Stainless Steel Uwell Crown Coil - 10 to 30W
  • The Crown comes with the first three coils above, in addition to a spare glass tank. You'd need to purchase the 1.2 ohm separately.
I like to vape around 30 watts, so I use the 1.2 ohm and 0.5 ohm coils. They are pretty similar in performance.I get about 4 weeks use.

I did a review of the original Crown in this ECF thread: Tanks & RDA's Ratings & Explanations

Your posts are always so awesomely thorough. Do you write? Do reviews or something?

I haven’t tried it, but the Smok Prince tank has a rebuildable base you can buy.
They also have come out with mesh pre made coils for it, that seems to be where sub ohm tanks are heading, mesh coils get good reviews for flavor and longevity.

I haven’t tried any though, I stick to RTAs pretty much.

I had one in my cart but took it out. I haven’t had great luck with Smok, so I’m kind of biased against them. An alien mod of theirs lasted all of three weeks before it died. My ex husband had one of their internal battery mods that he had to throw out of a car window because it was overheating to a critical point. The coils have been really inconsistent for the baby tank that came with my alien mod. At this point I’m very reluctant to give them any more of my money.

I know what you mean, personally, ive given up on sub ohm tanks lately, those coils are 3-5 bucks a pop depending on where you buy, and don't last very long.

I have the Pharaoh mini RTA, single coil with a very easy install.
Cheaper than buying coils, better flavor, and still pretty quick to mess with when changing wire and wick.

I agree. I’ve never really gotten the point of coil tanks. They aren’t really any less messy or time consuming to use, they’re just a touch less intuitive. It’s kind of like automatic vs stick. There’s a bit more initial training but the experience is better in the end.
