I haven't even received my first kit yet, and after viewing this site, I already feel the need to upgrade.

I decided, with my urge to quit, and the demonizing of public smoking, that I'd like to give e-cigarettes a go. After doing a Google search for reviews I placed an order for a greensmoke starter kit. And then I stumbled onto this forum. After reading some reviews here I'm starting to have a bit of buyers remorse, and my greensmoke kit isn't even here yet. So I haven't tried a single product (except one drag off a friends e-cig maybe 2 years ago) yet. I currently smoke ryo menthol cigarettes, and I'm hoping to replace that with a vapor unit. I'm tempted to send off for an echo 1300 kit even before the greensmoke deal gets here, as it seems to be a better and more cost effective product. I've got a lot more reading to do on juices, filling procedures, maintenance and such.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

This is only my opinion but I'd call and cancel the order, or send it back unopened when you receive it and get a refund. There's much better products out there for a lot less $$$. If you're just testing the waters there's no need to spend more than $50 total for everything you need. From what I see on the Greensmoke site, their cheapest starter kit is $99.

That's a very expensive mini. They do have a 30 day money back. I think there is a 15% restocking fee so you will lose a bit of money.

What are your smoke habits like? How much and how long have you been smoking. It'll give a better idea of what to recommend.

I smoke ryo menthol. Full flavor menthol tobacco, with the strongest menthol tubes I can get. I've been smoking, save for one five month break, anywhere from 15-40 smokes a day for 15 years now. I thought about cancelling my order, but its already shipped. I'm thinking I'll at least try it while I'm waiting for my next purchase to arrive. With the 30 day money back deal I should be able to recoup at least a portion of my original investment. Just need to decide what product best suits my needs.

IMO Cancel Greensmoke. It's KR808D-2 and incompatible with it's much more popular near-twin KR808D-1

For KR808D-1 look at SmokelessImage, Bloogplanet, Halocigs G6 (all the same) and the more original style Vapor4Life (allows a longer drag, hotter so you should also try the smoother less lip-hot cartomizers from the others - with V4L cartos I always use a plastic or delrin drip tip as a mouthpiece). I recommend manuals for the best easy-to-get hits and most safe from being killed or damaged by juices leaks. Most people here use and recommend manuals. Vapor4Life allows longer drags (up to 10 seconds vs 5 seconds for the others). But the others have somewhat longer charge and more obviously totally sealed threaded end on the manuals.

Hello and welcome. :)

The first kit I started out with was a 510 with manual batteries from cignot.com and quickly (about 2 weeks, once I fell in love with vaping) moved on to a ego mega type B (also got from cignot, can't recommend that company enough) and have stuck with that, albeit with a number of different atty styles, and the batteries (I went with the 1000mAh ones for more vaping time) fit many different style of atties that also have the 510 connection which seems to be very common.

If you do order a new kit I would suggest also ordering a couple of cartomizers and a drip tip so you can try different methods. Juices do taste different depending on what atty method you use to vape with.

LOL! That is so funny because it happens to newbies all the time but at least you realized it before you got it. Now you can send it back and get a refund. I suggest you start out with a PV with at least 650mah batteries and something with 510 threads since those are the most popular and there are more choices of supplies such as cartos & tanks. I hope you ordered a lot of small bottles of juice. Welcome to the forum.

Congratulations on deciding to quit the smokes. When I started vaping after being a pack a day smoker for 20 years I was skeptical the E-cig would help but more than 3 months later and I havn't had a single cigarette and have had no cravings. Just having my sense of smell back is wonderful. I started with an Ego-T, but as has been said there are a lot of great products around. Make sure you get a few different flavoured ejuices to try out to find the ones you like. I was worried if it didn't taste like tobacco it wouldnt work, but now I actually prefer flavours that arn't tobacco. I would also recommend a battery of at least 650mah, but I quickly moved up to 1000mah passthru battery so that I could vape at my pc while the battery charged. Good luck.

I made the mistake of starting with Greensmoke too, but it did get me off analogs. Since I found my way to this forum, I've upgraded systems twice, I'm now happy with my e-go from Liberty Flights and hope that the major investments are finished! Most importantly, I've not craved an analog since I got the Greensmoke, the health advantage is evident, and I'm still financially ahead of my $8.00 pack per day habit. I've tried lots of flavors, but still go back to the mints (I was a menthol smoker for 30 years) and nicotine level is down to 4 or 0 most of the time. There is a learning curve, there is no one right answer for every ex smoker, but help is here. The research takes time, but it is worth it. Welcome!

I like the idea of the echo so far, my wife seems anti manual, and since we're going to try this together, I like the idea I can pick up a couple of each and whatever attachments I get should swap between the two. From what I've read here I think the 1300 should make it through a day on a charge. That's kind of important to me. I like the look the buzz on notcigs, and the 747 cropduster has, but I don't know if that should be my first purchase.

Something I've been wondering about. How often do any of you have to deal with concerned citizens and such when vaping in public? Just curious how fast someone's going to throw a fit when I'm at a restaurant or in the library or something.

Everybody has their own opinion on vaping in public. I have been known to stealth vape in hospitals, airports and many other places. I try not to vape where smoking is really frowned upon. We have a good thing going here. If we start pissing people off with it, our right to vape could be challenged. I think of it as being considerate of your surroundings. For instance, it might not be a good idea to go the McDonald's playground with your kids and sit there and vape. Other parents would obviously get upset. And rightly so. They don't know what you are doing. They think you are smoking. Most of them will NOT approach you to find out what it is you are doing. For the few that get the explanation and feel fine about it, there will be many, many more that leave the playground upset and mad. So until the masses are educated on the benefits and use of e-cigs, I think we should do as our mothers would have said and "Just be nice" when it comes to vaping around other people. But that's just my opinion.

If I understand correctly, what I exhale should be of no harm to anyone around me. I like that idea. I don't like that my smoking cigarettes could cause harm to someone. At this point smoking is almost too much of a hassle. First it was no smoking indoors. Then it was no smoking on company property. Now it's stay fifty feet from the door. I kept hearing about e-cigarettes as a smoke anywhere option. I'm not sure I buy it, and I really don't enjoy the products that attempt to look like a cigarette. I feel that if I'm using a product that in no way could be mistaken for an "analog" cigarette, that it should lower the likelihood of anyone getting too upset about it. I'm sure it won't be a smoke anywhere option, at least not openly, but I'm hoping for a bit more freedom. I keep wondering just how socially acceptable vaping is, and how long before this industry will be taxed to death and we'll have our own little designated area.

I look at it like this...if smoking ain't allowed, don't vape...unless you get permission first...I do vape openly in public and do stealth vape(anywhere( and I do believe begging forgivness is better than asking permission, getting refused and doing it anyway...doanwanna PO the "citizens" anymore than I havvta...the nice thing about stealth vaping, you are not leaving clouds of lingering smoke or smell so, unless seen, no one can tell..........

I started with a mall kit like your Greensmoke. I did need something better within a couple of weeks but that mall kit gets the credit for me being smoke and tobacco free nearly 8 months. We get a little snobbish (myself included) knowing there are better kits and are anxious to help you avoid our mistakes. You made a great decision to vape. A 15% restocking fee is a small price to get a kit to vape with while you shop and learn :) Good for you!

If you're looking at an eGo 1300 mAh that's probably got a dash - T at the end meaning a tank system. They work great for some people but the fiddle-factor can be high with leaking and burnt and plastic taste issues while you're getting used to your equipment. Not cool in the middle of a nic crave. I'm not goint to discourage that decision but suggest you order 510 cartomizers in addition to your kit. If your tanks go wacky you won't. Just fill a cartomizer and vape. Your ecig batteries are compatible with cartomizers. It'll be like having two kits in one.

Also suggest the type "B" tanks. They have less complaints than the type "A" tanks. Hope you have a smooth vaping journey. Congrats on your decision.

I have the S808-D1 (maybe Saleibo, forget) with 380mAhr auto batts. I have in the past built mods with touch switches and though nifty, personally I think auto batteries are ideal (and the S808 ones are terrific). Clooging of auto batteries was an issue in the days of cartridges, but have had no problems at all since movng to cartomizers (stuffed, 3ohm, standard).

Unfortunately I dont know what make of cartos I have - they were just generic - but I have vaped 100% VG - nothing else - just the gloopy stuff and within seconds it gets absorbed and I vape on without any issues. I didn't expect that, but it seems not all cartos can take VG so well.

Too much water / ethanol (flavoring base) when DIYing your own e-liquids is what leads to the dreaded 'burnt taste'.
