Read this link here about the Li ion batteries. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/new-members-forum/8852-li-ion-batteries-truth.html#post136930

They don't need an 8 hour charge from what I can see because they don't develop a memory.

The 510 I bought worked great with the initial charge that came with them. I get throat hit because I use menthol. I'm not really one to judge different juices yet because I haven't tried too many different kinds. I also use 36 nic content though (with VG mixed most of the time).

Now, one of my batteries won't work with the atomizer I've been using. I thought it was dead, but it works great on the other atomizer. Sometimes these things are just screwy! :)

Dawnlori, Still no throat hit, and much more burnt plastic taste on all the carts. Tons of vapor though.

RsL - I'd like to stick to one atomizer, but all 5 of them have given off a burnt plastic taste, with FULLY packed carts and freshly charged batteries. I'm with you that the atomizer might need some time to break in, BUT,,, why would an atomizer produce vapor, which I would think is the prime function of the atomizer, but not the taste or the throat hit? I'm getting HUGE amounts of vapor, to the point where I'm astounded that I'm getting no throat hit, so it's obviously doing it's job to a point. It's tough to stick to one of these atomizers though when they all make me gag from the disgusting burnt plastic taste. I went to bed nauseous this morning from that taste.

Ok, try this. With a full cart, but not so full that it is pooling up inside, put 2 drops of juice on the atomizer. Do you now get that burnt taste?

As to the throat hit, there are entire threads devoted to it and everyone has different opinions, including long time vapors. But from my experience part of it is the nicotine content of the juice, the juice itself, the device itself, (And the 510 is one of the best at it), the quality of the atomizer, how well that atomizer generates heat, the charge state of the battery, as well as technique.

Take long, slow drags and then at end of the drag inhale deep into your lungs. It took me a while to de-program my analog smoking ways and learn how to best inhale while vaping to get a nice throat hit. It's hard to explain, it's just something you figure out with experience. Plus, the reality is that a 510 or even the mods, are never going to give you the same kick in the throat as a real cigarette. You just aren't getting the same chemicals (Thank God) as well as the intense heat a cigarette produces from the burning tobacoo...

I initially liked the Dura-c (510) when I first started vapin it, but it seems that the atomizers do not last long. The Dura-C (510) atomizer lasted 1 month. My DSE901/RN4075 atomizers have lasted approx 2-3 months.

Also, it seems that the replacement atomizers that I purchased do not hit as hard as the original atomizer that came with the starter kit... I seem to get alot less vapor than before.. not sure what is up, but I have reverted back to the DSE901/RN4075 stuff.. atleast the cartridges dont leak on them...

I wouldn't consider getting a months worth of use from a 510 atomizer as bad performance. The 510 atomizers are stronger and burn hotter than a 901 does and that also shortens it's life span. But I've never had one just die on me, but after several weeks of use the performance will start to tail off.

I've also never experienced the leaking which early models were known for. I'm curious to know where you bought your 510 because I thought that problem was long gone.

One final thought. Remember that the quality control on all of these things vary. You can buy 2 of the same unit from the same supplier and the one may work just Ok and the other one will kick ..... I can understand why people new to vaping get frustrated. There is a learning curve and this technology is still in it's infancy. A couple of years from now we may all look back and chuckle at the primitive e-cigs we once thought were good....

RsL, I tried doing that as well (dripping 2 drops on atomizer) Still same foul burning taste, and no throat hit. I know the liquids will react differently when in different devices. But, I just got Watermelon 18mg from eastmall. I dripped some of that into a KRD808-1 cart that i had been using, that was marlboro flavor, and the taste was about gone, and the throat hit was about gone. I put in this Watermelon juice in that cart, and all of a sudden, the cart came alive. I got a great throat hit, tons of vapor, and, without question, a watermelon taste. All 3 of those things did not exist moments before I filled it with that juice, when the cart was almost out. So, I don't think it's too much of a juice problem. I've tried these 510 carts now with chocolate, watermelon, hilton, marlboro,,, in 18mg and 36mg strengths. none of them give any throat hit or taste,, and all of the flavors still taste like burnt plastic from the carts within 5 hits... i can't keep experimenting with a unit that tastes like this and is close to making me physically sick...

ditc, I'm new at this but I can say that my new atomizers had this taste at first and it will also taste like this when the juice is running low. I top it off and it's fine. I know you've tried this though, so I don't know what is causing it other than maybe bad atomizers that are getting too hot from a bad battery??? Honestly, I don't know.

So, are you selling your 510? :D

Are you saying that you put the new juice in the 808 cartridge and put that on your 510? I'm just a little confused and I know I can't help you, but I do want to learn from problems others are having in case I'm faced with them.

Nevermind...I re-read your post and I got it. I'm a little slow sometimes. :)

I will admit though that mine will also taste like that after a few draws. I'm just guessing that the 510 uses so much juice that the cartridge goes dry pretty fast or it can't wick enough juice to provide a new draw so quickly. I do top it off often and then it only holds 3-4 drops, but the burnt taste goes away (for awhile). I'm impatient.

Oh, I've also heard and from the instructions that you are supposed to let it rest for 3 minutes after drawing on it a few times. I guess it lets the atomizer cool (and maybe wick more juice). That does seem to help when I can actually do that.

I dunno if anyone else mentioned this, but I bought a Dura-C and love it- I got one "Janty" atomizer with the name scratched on it, and one "non-etched, non-warranty" atomizer. The etched one works great- flavor, hit, etc. The non-branded one makes a lot of vapor but it is a 100% different experience- I wouldn't know what ry4 tasted like on it. It has less throat hit as well. Did you say if you had tried any different atomizer on it? Might be the ticket.

That metallic taste usually only appears when the cart is dry as well as the atomizer. But that is not the case for you as you have a full cart and a couple of drops on the atomizer. I'm starting to think you just have some bad atomizers. It might seem strange that you can have a few atomizers all be bad, but it's still possible. At this point I would contact the supplier you bought them from. Tell them what is going on and get some replacements.
You shouldn't be having these issues....

I know the taste you are talking about and I've been successful getting rid of it. Try the following at your own risk :)

Blow out the atomizer so there is no more juice left in it. Then do a 12 second dry burn. Just push the button an the manual bat without a cart on the atomizer. It will hiss and smoke. That is a good thing. Let it cool down and do it again for 12 seconds. Once cool, take a blank cart and put a couple of drops of water in the cart. Put the cart on the atomizer and puff on it for a little bit. You will notice the bad taste will dissipate. Once done, let the atomizer sit for a few hours as there may be a tiny bit of water left in it. Then just put a couple of drops of liquid in the atomizer, put on a cart and enjoy the nice clean flavour.

What I've noticed it that the bad flavour is coming from the filler in the carts. I've switched to just using the paper towel role as the cart filler and I'm not getting the nasty taste anymore.

Give it a try. What do have to lose other than the bad taste :)

I forgot about that. The Widow has something similar to this in her instructions.

I was really getting frustrated with the nasty taste until I tried it. It works great. The weird thing, is the first time I tried it, it still had some nastiness. It turns out that the burnt taste gets stuck in the standard carts. It wasn't until I stopped using the standard cart (or ones I made with Fluvol) that the burnt taste dissipated greatly.

You said you use a paper towel roll? Is that the cardboard part? I need to try something different myself to improve the flavor also because I wash the filler out and you're right, that taste seems to stay. Kinda like sucking a cigarette that has gone out.

I use dura c and 510,I read in a post the nasty taste was coming from the material next to the bridge at the bottom of adomizer. If you look in adomizer at the bottom you see a blackish brown cord like material.People have been saying if that is fraying it will burn and give you that nasty taste.I myself found I know what a dry cart tastes like. This tastes is deffenitally differant.I flush my adomizers out with e liquid and turn upsidedown overnight .This helped the adomizer I was having trouble with.Good luck and don't give up.I have found these units are the best all around e-cig for me

You actually roll up the paper towel like a carpet and put it in the cart. There is a thread about alternate filler material...I believe it is the same one that talks about using a tea bag, without the tea :)

I have to head out, but I'll search for it tonight for you.

You know, I am all for being patient, and spending time doing mods and waiting overnite for juices to sit etc. etc... and you all have been really helpful,, but i mean, people seem to bow down to this 510.... all these tips and tricks seem like a lot of stuff to go thru just to have it work the way it "should" be working right out of the box,, right?

ok,, i can tell you one thing,,, i started to attempt to do the tip that cellwho mentioned,,,, and just from taking the cart off, and pushing down the button for 12 seconds, and watching the atomizer sizzle,, i noticed 2 things,,, 1) the atomizer was smoking and giving off the EXACT gross plasticy burnt taste i was talking about,, and 2) it's making crackling noises? should either of these things be happening?

It appears the learning curve is a bit too much for some people.

I suggest you take RsL's offer and sell your 510 to him since you just can't make it work right. I will lay a bet right now that RsL will have it vaping like a scalded ape inside of two hours.

However, with all the suspicious maladies that yours just happens to be suffering all at once, I am beginning to doubt whether you really own a 510 at all. I don't know if this is just me, but as a wise poster alluded to in another thread - "I smell poop".

I was wondering the same thing - all that hype about the Vapor King.

You think this was just a ruse? Why do people do that?
