I encountered the same thing. I started vaping January 2013, because I smoked marlboro red I need a 24 mg. I have no problems, but last month I had sore throat for over a month and realized I everytime I vaped 24mg i keep coughing. I lowered down my nic to 18mg and still coughing. Finally, lowered it again to 12 nic I am doing fine with just a little coughing. I started with coffee flavor juice.

FOr a bottom coil tank setup take a look at the Kanger Protank. Price range is $15-20 US. The heads run about $2 each to replace. It is a glass tank which is important as some juices destroy some plastics. With the protank you will never have to worry about your juice cracking your tank. Later if you decide to rebuild your own heads the protank is no harder to do than the vivi nova.

the ratio is dekang usa mix 24mg nic , 70/30

24 mg NICOTENE is equivalent to a full flavor cig more then a "lite".

70% PG may be more then your body can tolerate. Both of these things (nicotene strength and high PG percentage) contribute to "throat hit." Too much THROAT HIT will make most people cough.

I suggest 15-16 mg nicotene for YOU and 60% PG/ 40% vg or a 50/50 eliquid mix will work much better for you if you were used to smoking LIGHT cigarettes. DEFINITELY.

(Dekang does suck, btw)

update: its not the nicotine level. I went out and bought american made juice from a local shop at 12mg nic strength with 60/40 pg/vg. Still harsh on the throat so the last 3 possibilities are
1. its harsh because I just started vaping which I doubt since I have been smoking cigarettes for 15 years
2. my throat is sensitive to vivi nova top coil tanks so i'm ordering a protank to see if it helps.
3. my throat is sensitive to pg so i'm also ordering high vg juices too, possibly pure vg.
I hope one of the above solves the problem so I can lay off the cancer sticks for good.
P.S. All of the above might be wrong and maybe i'm sensitive to vg? lol only time will tell.

I received my order of vamo v2, vivi nova with dekang usa mix 24mg nic today. Charged the batteries, put liquid in tank and let it sit in tank for 2 hours.
When I started vaping I keep coughing and can barely inhale the vape. I am around a 15 year pack a day smoker of parliament lights.
Am I coughing because the tank is new or the nicotine is too high or dekang usa mix sucks?
any suggestions are welcome please.

1. Lower your nicotine dosage to see if that helps
2. Always PRIME your juice before vaping - otherwise, you'll end up with dry hits that'll make you cough like crazy
3. Set your VV device to optimal voltage settings to match the atomizer's resistance (check the green link in my signature for a chart)
4. Dekang isn't that bad, I don't like it anymore, but I don't recall coughing and dying from it. Some people enjoy it, but for me it doesn't have the same quality as other eLiquids out there.

Good luck!

I, too, am trying to find that perfect mix of nic and PG/VG ratio. When I started vaping in Feb 2013, I had an awful smoker's cough. Inside of 4 days of vaping (12 mg/ml 80/20 mix) and no analogs, the cough went away. Two months later with steady vaping and no analogs, a much different couch started up. It is in direct response to the vapor inhale. This AM I tried some zero nic juice. No cough on inhale, but no nic. I think I'll try some 50/50 12 mg/ml next to see if I can avoid the cough, but still get some nic. BTW I was a 50 year PAD MB Reds smoker. The best news so far is no analogs in three months.
