Hi there folks! I've been smoking since I was 16 years old. I'm 48 now so thats a long time.
I've been having smoking related health concerns for years, mostly chronic bronchitis, a terribly
lowered immune system ( although I take every immune enhancer available), I am always getting sick,
taking antibiotics and its a viscious cycle. I'm just really feeling the effects of long term smoking and I know
deep in my heart it is time to QUIT!

I finaly got a good brand of an ecig that actually feels like smoking! My question is this-
what is the best way to make the transition from real cigs to the ecig? I have 6 packs of my brand of
menthol lights left and I don't plan on buying anymore. EVER!

Can someone give me some tips on how they succeeded in making the switch? I would very greatly
appreciate any advice!!!

Thanks!
Haleyj

Hi Haley

It is great that you found the ecig and are ready. I can tell you what I did 3 years ago, I cant really speak for what you should do or not do.

First off, I knew that if I kept smoking I was going to die. That gave me incentive to stop.

I ordered a little 510 and some cartridges. I didn't know about this forum or anyone else that used an ecig at the time.

I had 2 cartons of cigs left and thought if this doesn't work I will have to go back to cigs.

Well, My 510 came in the mail and I loaded it up with a crappy cart they supplied. Not too bad I thought. After a few hours I noticed that I wasnt having a nic fit. I never have touched another Cig. I made my mind up that if the ecig didnt work Id go to the patch and quit smoking. Well it worked and worked well.. I remember my first 1 month anniversary,, lol It was a milestone for me. I guess what Im saying is that you just have to be determined to make it work. Seems like an eternity now since its been 3 years but I still remember the first drag I took off the ecig.. As soon as I felt better which was by the next day I knew this was for me.. No matter what.. I smoked over 40 years.. Everything is now better... It will be for you too!!

Try some good Probiotics to put the good bacteria back in your gut since you're taking so many antibiotics..

Hope you feel better starting with your new ecig!!

Hi ..I am a 'newbie too..but I started with V2s as well...At first I seemed to want a tobacco cig when I woke up and after dinner and before I went to bed...3 a day...then I said..let me 'see' how I feel vaping the V2 right from the morning...I did ..and NO cravings AT ALL! It really does take the place because remember you ARE getting nicotine..I smoked for 40 years..and I just got my kit in Jan! Now it''s not more tobacco for me ::) Good luck to you..you will feel and smell :) much better..believe me...take good care...Lee PS I find I have to vape more than smoke..but if that is what it takes..I am happy :)

Here's a link to a post I did that explains how I switched, others have posted what worked for them as well: ECF community: What set-up helped you switch and why did you find it so effective.

BTW, Determination, diligence, perseverance, & will all help. Although the process is similar for most it's not exactly the same. I'll tell you this PV's definitely helped me quit smoking. Good luck and just know your on a good path.

Hi Haleyj...Welcome to ECF !

How to succeed...hmmm...just start with thinking when you go to reach for the cigarette...remind yourself you have an alternative now...and hopefully decide to pick up the e-cig instead :)

Take it easy...allow yourself to go at a pace you are comfortable with...it's all good.

Any cigarette not smoked is an accomplishment !

(for me...I just decided the e-cig tasted better than my cigarettes...finished out the carton and that was it...over 2 years ago !)

Great success to you !

I agree with above. Don't assume it will be difficult. Some people switch over to vaping immediately, and some switch over time. The only thing I can suggest is that you start off with a rather high nico content. You can start cutting down after you've made the switch over to vaping totally, if you like. Don't be hard on yourself if you still reach for a cig every now and then to start with, that's what alot of people do. Over time you'll find that you prefer to vape over smoke. Just don't pressure yourself. You'll get there just like the rest of us!:D

Thanks for the reply's! Gosh, you all make it sound as if it was an easy switch right off the bat. I think I have a 'mental block'
to it all......if that makes sense. I'm trying to get over yet another bout of bronchitis and it has (is) lingered for over a
month. I KNOW intellectualy that if I pick up an Ecig instead of a tobacco cigarette that I will feel better sooner.
But I'm just starting and its my first day so I'm automaticaly going for 'the good ones' which in my addictive mind
means a real cig!
Somehow I have to get my mind right.....that the Ecig is the 'better one'.

I do think that if I could see some results, ie:feel better, that I would jump on the bandwagon whole-heartedly and with
excitement ,at the prospect of being smoke free. But I must abstain for some amount of time, of course, before that
happens.
Its nice to find a good support group, so thanks for being here and a HUGE CONGRATS to all of you!:toast:

Well put, everybody! May I add?

1. Spend a little time and money finding gear and juice that you like. If you smoke cigs during that process, who cares? You'll get there.

2. I don't know where I read this, but it's good advice. When you find yourself planning to have a cigarette, promise yourself that you will take five or ten puffs on the E cigarette first, and then you can have a cigarette if you still want it. You usually won't.

Good luck! We are all really hoping you can make it work!

It was much the same for me…quickly made the transition down to 3 a day (wakeup, lunch, dinner) then after 2 weeks was down to just the morning analog. Today’s my second day analog free, and I don’t miss it!

One thing I did was find a juice I liked. I liked the Blu tobacco and found out it’s made by Johnson creek, so I ordered the closest thing they had in their strongest dosage (24). That helped me get over the hump.

All in all it was MUCH easier to make the transistion from analog to vaping than I could have imagined.

It wasen't a total switch right off the bat for me. I started with the Blu, and I liked it, but still kept reaching for my hubby's smokes (I was using NO nico in the Blu) so I ordered some 31mg nico juice and tried that and it worked. I went from smoking 3 pks a day to about 5 a day for a few days, and then realized I didn't like to smoke AT ALL anymore. But this 'process' took about a month...I've now been smoke free for alittle over 2 months now.
I think alot of the switch is learning that you can trust the ecig to give you the nico hit that you need. (Mental)
You've been trusting cigs to do that for years, so your brain is used to reaching for the cig. Teaching yourself to reach for the ecig takes some time, and learning that vaping WILL give you the nico that you need will take some time, so like I said before, don't be hard on yourself, you'll get there.

just read your latest entry. Order some nico juice with a rather high nico content and order some menthol flavored juice. I vape some Wintergreen with alittle menthol in it and it tastes great! Spearmint too.

Edited to add, don't chew the mint gum while vaping or you won't be able to taste the flavor of the juice, I've already been there, done that! lol!

Congratulations on deciding on switching to vapeing! Every time I had attempted to quit smoking it always ended in miserable failure within a week. I actually decided to get into vapeing as a means to hopefully save a little money and cut back on the amount of cigarettes I was smoking. I was absolutely shocked when after a week I greatly preferred vapeing to smoking.

What I found worked the best for me was vapeing more frequently than I smoked, but less puffs each time. When a strong craving kicked in I just vaped harder. If that didn't knock out the craving I would just go outside and have an analog. The one thing I noticed after a few days was that I no longer was getting the satisfaction I used to from analogs and they started to taste more and more unpleasant. After about a week I stopped going out for a smoke when a craving hit, and from there the cravings started dropping in frequency and intensity until they just went away.

My biggest piece of advice is drink a lot of water. Drink far more water than you think you need and even drink water when you're not thirsty. Vapeing is dehydrating and your body is going to be flushing out the thousands of toxins that smoking has deposited in it over the years. Welcome to the ECF and happy vapeing!

Gosh, you all make it sound as if it was an easy switch right off the bat.
lol, yes, if you really wanna, it COULD BE off the bat :)
I'm not saying is a walk in the park but is much, much easier than any other method out there and, believe me, i've tried them all.
Just like the others said, don't try to be "brave" and buy ultra low nicotine stength, wont help.. start with regular 18mg so you wont crave for analogs much.. you'll be down to 12mg, or even 6, in no time. A month down the road you won't even think about analogs, you'll be too busy looking for a better tank :)
Welcome to the club, stick around and you'll discover a new world!

I bought an e cig just to use in the hospital on visits to friends and family. I got in the car after buying it opened it up and tried it. I couldn't believe how much it satisfied me. Just like smoking a real cig! Then I handed it to my friend who was with me and she tried it. I then went right back in to get a 2nd battery and some more carts and she went in and bought one too. I stopped smoking by accident. E cigs are THAT GOOD! I know you can do it. It may not go the same as it did for me but it does work. I smoked 2 packs of marlboro light 100s and needed 24 mg to satisfy me and then went down to 20. You are gonna be shocked. It's like you quit smoking but you don't suffer for it.

what i have been doing is kinda both analogs and my ecigs. for awhile i was doing really good and i went at least a month with no cig whatsoever. then i got fired, and then my atomizers stopped working, and all hell broke loose in my vaping world so cigs were easier to get at the time since my whole family smokes. but im working my way back to vaping exclusively. i think the more you do both the more you will work towards staying away from cigs completely. to me there is nothing worse than smoking a cig, vaping is my number one choice now.

I started with and am still using my V2. I am about to make the move to a mod. But, the transition was pretty easy for me. I went cold turkey for two weeks and thought I was going to lose my mind. So when I got an ecig it was such a relief. Maybe that helped. But, just give it some time. Eventually, if you are like me, you will start to like the taste and experience of ecigs better than cigarettes. I smoked for 13 years and haven't touched a cigarette since the cold turkey to ecig move. I love it now. Plus, its a great way to improve your health and save a lot of money.

I had myself down to about 1/2 a pack a day before I attempted to quit with a V2 so this may not be relevant to you. At first I took a drive to Georgia about 5 hours away, so I smoked in the car, only had 1 cig that entire time, had the E-Cig about 4 times. Went hunting for three days, smoked regular cigs the rest of the time I was up there. Drove back, got back into smoking the ecig while in the car, that worked out well.

When I arrived home I decided well I'll just smoke a few cigs, so I had 3 or so my first day, then 2 the next day, then 1 in the morning the following 2 days. The entire time I was using the ecig, as of Monday, I haven't smoked a regular cigarette, and honestly, it isn't bothering me at all. I am getting into the whole vaping thing maybe a bit too much, but I would much rather obsess over this than cigarettes. All in all, took me about 6-7 days to quit smoking entirely. That's really amazing for a 12 year smoker if you ask me.

I was a smoker for 56 years. Tried to quit with all the stuff, gum, patches, drugs. Didn't work. I gave up trying & decided to keep smoking till it killed me. Then on a yearly checkup, My doctor mentioned trying e-cigs. I had never heard of them, so I got online & looked them up. I ordered a kit & made up my mind that I wasn't quitting I was just going to change brands. It worked for me, I have never even wanted another cigarette. I just switched brands of smokes. It's vapes now.
