Didn't know that was your idea Pete. Good one! And really? 1-2hrs? Is that with heavy vaping? Moderate? Light?

Will my SB @ 6v work with them? I have everything right here in front of me to make them. I simply didn't bother once I discovered dripping. But, I have to admit, dripping while driving is NOT my favorite activity. And even an hr and it would be worth doing for the road.
Hey JK,
I actually get a close 2 hours of pretty heavy vaping. I get 12-13 drops in the cart and vape it dry. I use it at 3.7v, 5v and 6v on my SB. When using them at 6v you need to trim them a little bit more because of the increased flow of juice needed but ya, no problem. I just find that dripping a 510 at 6v is a pain. I get 5-6 hits and its dry. The trick at 6v is to trim it as much as you can without it flooding. After a while you get the hang of it and know how much foam to leave on.

Well I'm the guy who started the BFD cart mod so let me add my 2 cents. I believe that perhaps 50% of those who buy a 510 give up and go back to analogs because of how poorly the stock cartridge works. That's a shame. I realized this short-coming quickly and new that I had to find something that worked better or I'd go back to analogs myself. I tried every cart mod on this forum. Some worked well some of the time. Some I just couldn't get to work at all. Eclypse's blue foam mods worked better than all the rest (for me) but I still had problems 50% of the time. When I started using the BFD I was amazed how well it worked. Then I started actually feeling guilty that I had not shared it. Problem was, my digital camera was dead and I knew that if I didn't post clear, easy to follow pics that I'd just be confusing people who would try to make one. So I went out and bought a new camera and took the time to post them along with what I believe are pretty clear instructions. Those who have actually tried it know how well it works.
My point is 510's don't work properly out of the box. Why should someone suffer using them for even one day when they can just fill up their carts and vape for 1-2 hours without frustration. Before you dismiss it, try it. I believe that those who have are happily vaping away using it.

There is no doubt that poly fill sucks and while I tryed a ton of cart mods that are out there with min results I never tryed this one so maybe Ill give it a shot. I actually think the thread with the pics should be linked here.

There is a learning curve to the 510 and all PVs in general. I was lucky to find this site and do research on everything before actually buying anything. It definately saved me money and headaches. I did do the blue foam mod to the carts as soon as I got my kit because of all the helpful info on this site. So, while I'm not a brain scientist or a rocket surgeon.....lol, I do recommend that all newbies do their research before trying any of the mods.

It is indeed. I've had my 510 for approximately two weeks now, and I've barely used it at all. It would probably satisfy my craving for nicotine (a patch or that stupid gum would do that), but it doesn't satisfy my craving for a cigarette at all. I came here tonight to see if I could find some advice to make this work.

The carts that came with my eGo tasted foul and spewed nasty liquid onto my lips. Maybe that's something one grows accustomed to over time, but for a person just starting out, and with particularly foul flavored carts, it wasn't a good beginning at all.

Thanks to the advice on this forum, I'd also purchased blank carts and some liquid, which arrived a few days later. Unfortunately, I haven't had success with them. I've been rather timid about how much liquid to add, not wanting to repeat the whole spewing of nasty liquid incident. So I get it out occasionally, puff at it, then go smoke a cigarette.

Personally, I wish I had known about the BFDs in advance. I think I'll go order some, then find a thread that discusses dripping as an alternative while I wait on the mail.

I was just at the pet store yesterday, and didn't think to grab some filter floss. My eGo should have been shipped out today, so I have some time. I will definitely be looking into this mod. It does sound simple enough to do.

I will be using the carts as is at first, but I want to have the equipment here to mod if necessary also.

More good info!

I love the BFD mod. I tried several different things in the first couple of weeks: original filler, quilt batting, PTB, straw mods and a coupe different blue foams. Rite Size U is the best, IMO, and it does significantly enhance my vaping experience.

I also, fill it with about 12-13 drops and insert the plug. I drive 1 hour and 10 minutes to work each day and the 510 almost never leaves my hand. One cart lasts the whole trip and when I leave work I insert another one for the ride home. Usually 2-1/2 - 3 carts lasts me all day and there is no juice left in the cart when I finish. I get the same consistent taste and vapor and I haven't even washed out my atty for 3 weeks. I have blown it out twice though.

BFD works great for me, ymmv...

The biggest problem is that none of the mass produced e-cigs work great out of the box. At least not according to the forums. If you do your research, the 510 manual is the most recommended, but out of the box its inconsistent at best. Don't get me wrong I love mine now. I will recommend it to anyone (with the B.F.D.).

When I had originally started this thread, I had just read 3 or 4 threads from people who just ordered their 510 or who were hoping to get theirs in the mail the next day, they were so excited (you can find a lot of these new threads every day on here). I assume that they have read a lot just like i did. I assume they are going to have the same frustrations That I had and try the same solutions. Cleaning The atty.Taking long slow draws, a quick puff then a long draw. trying to drip, using a paper clip to to remove the air from the poly. and topping off a lot. they will flood and clear their attys. For all of this effort, most are just going to end up frustrated. If they are as stubborn as the rest of us were (or are) they are going to start going thru this forum trying to figure out how to get this damm thing to just work. The only direct answers (that I recall) to these issues are the ones listed above - all of them help, but none solve the problem.

I assume if those people read my post, they wont run out and make a BFD. I think they will take a look at it and see that it is simple to make. I do believe that most will have the same issues I listed. I just gave them a simple answer.

Thanks Vapor Madness, you beat me to it.
To the drippers out there. When you get a chance, just give this a try. You might just be surprised. I know, you probably have a drwaer full of tea bags, polyfill, foam and assorted straws and stirrers like I do. Ya, you tried about 15 cart mods and they either leaked or stopped working after 10 hits. You decided to just drip because it tastes great but is less filling:rolleyes:.
Try it and tell me it if doesn't work.

Problem is, on the one hand, you don't want to scare the Newbies with fancy mods. OTOH, stock carts suck. So I found a compromise: I tell Newbies that the stock carts are not exactly as they should be, and that sooner or later they should look into cart mods.

For the very beginning, I recommend that they just put in a straw, or rather, a bit of a Q-tip tube. That is so simple it does not scare anybody, and it already improves wicking considerably. For the enterprising ones, I also recommend cutting back the stock filling slightly. That is perfectly sufficient in the beginning, even if it is less than perfect. But it gives newbies the opportunity to get a decent experience.

For a perfect one, they will have to look at all other options themselfes.

Have you checked out this thread?

...

I only get liquid in my mouth if I drip too much.

No, I haven't. Thank you. :)

The only "problem" with this forum is that it can be a bit of an information overload at first. And, of course, reading is not the same as doing. A person who had never played or seen baseball could learn all the rules, the differences between leagues, etc, and still be surprised when he gets bonked on the noggin in his first game. ;)

I think AlexTM hit it perfectly:

I think it would be the knowing that a solution existed IF I had problems (which, of course, I did). Modifying the carts might have sounded scary before I received mine, when I was still feeling overwhelmed with names for pieces and parts I'd never actually seen before, but now it just seems like a no brainer.
