So far i'm really enjoying this vaping thing, however a few things are bothering me..
Should i be buying from a local seller or online?
For what ever reason when using the vamo if i go over 3.8 volts the taste of the vapor has a slight burnt flavor and it bothers me alot:?:, but it creates thicker smoke.
What i really want in a vaping session is thick vapor with a sweet taste that isn't hot maybe like luke warm at the most
the flavor im using is skittles
What i've been getting is semi hot vapor with a slight burnt taste to it! I can still taste the skittles but the burnt part is really ruining it for me. When i went to buy the vamo i went to a local shop and they charged me 84 dollars for a "starter kit" It included the vamo v5 and a kanger tech "protank 2," as well as one small flavor container and dripper, do you think it was a good deal or did i get ripped of?

thanks

Hi wayycold, I am also assuming you got a battery and charger with the kit. I paid about $80 for a 'Bamboo' mod back in the day. It was actually a Vamo V2. Around $80 for all that kit is not such a bad deal. If you break it all down and buy it at the cheapest sources, you probably could have got it all online for around $50-60.

If you have a local store that you like and that offer advice and have reasonable prices, there is nothing wrong with supporting them. If you do some online research and know what you want, you can do a quick price comparison and see if it's worth picking up there and then from you local B&M or if you want to order online. There really is no right or wrong answer and only you can decide if you got ripped off or not.

As for the e-liquid tasting a little burnt at higher voltages, it could be the coil head in the protank, or it could be the juice. When you read the forums, you'll see people vaping at higher voltages and wattages, but they are not usually using clearomizers like the protank 2. You can try changing the coil head for a start and see if that allows you to increase the voltage. Pre-made coil heads are very hit and miss in their quality and a some users eventually move toward rebuilding them themselves.

Of course the e-liquid you are using could also be a factor. It's one of the 'hardest' parts of vaping as what works for one person often will taste like oven cleaner to another. If they have a tasting bar at your B&M, you might want to hit that up and maybe select a different brand or a different flavor.

The PT2 is a single coil. One important point is you did not say which resistance the coil is. When you are using a voltage setting resistance is very important. Why aren't you using the wattage option? Makes it much simpler. For standard PT head you can't go much over 9-10 watts with out that burnt taste. Which version of Vamo do you have? If you want more vapor and want to keep the flavor you should have gotten a Aerotank which is a dual coil head and on them you can run up to 15 watts most of the time. Because each coil is only running at 7.5 watts.

Hmm about that wattage thing i actually have no clue were the coil is -_- and the highest I could go in wattage was 5ohms w/o the burnt taste I believe, It's a vamo v5 I just got done taking it apart to look for the coil and the juice just dumped all over me -__- i have a feeling the first few interactions taking this thing apart are gonna suck. I checked the packaging for the protank product and it doesn't say what resistance the coils are, as for the aero tank is the nautaluis mini similair? I'm thinking of just going out and buying that as i'm reading alot of positive things about it.

I'm using a Vamo v5 as well and I stay around 3.8 volts. It gives a cool vapor and still maintaining a nice cloud on 50/50 juice.

I paid $75 for my vamo tube without a tank, so you did good on that kit. After taking on an aspire nautilus tank and 3 bottles of 10ml juices, I paid $125. And that's not including the batteries that I had picked up at $15 a piece prior.

And as far as your protank, I believe the coil it comes with is defaulted to 2.5 ohms.

Most people do use clearomizers. The people who hang out here are not "most people". ;)

If you want to vape at higher watts/volts, try a double coil clearomizer. If that is still not enough for you, you have to get into rebuildable atomizers, and wrap your own coils, like many of us here on ECF do.

some instructions on a vamo v5 (from Stainless Steel VAMO VV/VW Mod - Body Only )
This device is a variable voltage and variable wattage device. It has a dual mode setting. Dual Mode VV or VW.
VV Mode : constant voltage. In this mode, APV adjusts from 3.0 to 6.0 Volts in .1 volt increments.
VW Mode : constant power. In this mode, APV adjusts from 3.0 to 15 Watts in .5 Watt increments.

Change modes by holding up and down ( - & + ) buttons at the same time for 3 seconds.
Atomizer Resistance Checker - Hold the + button for 3 seconds.
Battery Power Check - Hold the - button for 3 seconds.

hope that helps you out

The reason I moved away from the protanks were due to the coils. I never knew when they might go bad on me and out of ten new coils, 3-4 wouldn't work. The coils may be going bad on you, causing the burnt taste. I was going through coils quite often.

Getting a kayfun style atomizer is a huge upgrade! Building coils is super easy. Its a little fidly at first. If you can find a shop that has knowledgeable people working there, they will usually build you a coil and show you how. Especially if you buy it there.

The advantages are better flavor, better vapor production, longer lasting coils, larger liquid capacity and way more versatility. I would only by the clone version of the kayfun style if the shop is willing to port it out for you. Otherwise look into a kayfun v2+ or better Russian 91%. I wish I would have started with the Russian rather than waste so much on protanks.

Good luck.

The Vamo V5 has a mean (average) and an RMS setting (better). Mine came set to "mean" as many others (all ?) apparently have. To get the option to change, you have to hold the + or - button down for about 10 seconds. Changing to RMS setting should help you.

P.S. I use Protanks (v3) on this without problem (on RMS setting) - I bought airflow bases as an add-on extra for my Protanks, makes them much better. I'm also playing with my first RBA - some pro's some con's, but I'm still happy with the Protanks (I build them with single, oval coils at 1.5 to 2 ohms, using two drill bits as a former), vaping at 3.8 to 4.2V (depending on juice).

Try switching to wattage. With the Vamo on, hold the two small buttons at the same time until "1. Power Voltage" is displayed. Press the top left button twice until "Power Output" is displayed. Allow it to exit the menu. Hold down the top right button until the ohms are displayed, then press the top left or right buttons to adjust the wattage. Try 6-8 watts to start.

You may have to change the coil head to get rid of the burnt flavor depending on how bad it was burnt.
