Why must we address newly converted vapors as" noobs." I mean in the gaming world from my experience, it's never in a non derogatory way. We were all" noobs" once ourselves and someone talking down to someone because of their lack of knowledge could possibly intimidate them and shy them away from this site and/or healthier lifestyle. Why cant we find a softer word to use like maybe" beginner, convert Or even saying things gently like" I know this is new fir you but...". Secondly, Why must we jump down peoples throats with insulting words instead of giving kind friendly advice. I see this mostly when someone is doing something unsafe or more-so the infamous sub ohm debates. I know we are all passionate about what we do and love But at the end of the day people are going to either do it their own way, or the way of the advice that aS given the best. Anyways. .. just my opinion... and to stay in line with forum topic. .... provari or evic. .. GO : lol

Newbie is a generic word for someone that's new to anything (a job, a hobby, an activity, andy forum, etc.). That's like asking to change the word "blue" to something else.

The words "noob" or "newbie" are slang for someone that is new to whatever the subject matter is. Here on ECF most of the time I see the word it is someone referring to themselves. I have yet to notice someone calling someone else a "noob" except in the generalized sense of "noobs may not like this because it can be difficult".

You are however correct that in the gaming world "noob" is often used as an insult to people but this is typical of the younger crowd who think that being new at something is in and of itself degrading. Here in the adult world being a "noob" is no worse than being new to something.

My 2 cents.

Some good points, keyboard warriors and trolls will always be confrontational though. And some people just seem to believe that their setup, devices, and manner of vaping are the only way, and don't forget the fanboys.

Oh, and Sigelei for the win, Just kidding, lots of good stuff out there, Provari and Evic are two of them.

Lol even the word newbie doesn't sound as offensive as noob... but again, just my opinion Based on how I personally have seen it used on this site. I love this place and want to make it pleasurable for all. But I guess technically if no rules are being broken, people can say what they want. And would be wrong of me to criticize anyone who uses a term I don't agree with. I guess I just wanted to bring it to light. .. but now that I said my peace this thread is open for whatever... just last one out turn the lights off... my electric bill sky high lol

More times than not the person introduces their selves as a noob or newybe I very seldom see it being used as anything other than refering to someones lack of exp ether related to Vaping or ECF lingo ect... Occasionally some jerk uses it to make a lofty point or put down but soon after those people usually get told how rude they are by other members the noob dose not have to. Unless you just go looking for negative attention most noobs are shown lots of patience and understanding. As it should be.

I've never seen noob or newbie used in a derogatory way here.

On your second point, I totally agree. The ironic part about the intolerance is it's more often than not done out of ignorance of the subject which is one of the big problems we vapers have with the general public. I try not to do that and give useful information instead. Hopefully I sometimes succeed.

Oh, K100. My regulated devices are gathering dust lately ;)

I don't take the term to be derogatory at all. as a matter of fact, from perusing this forum I get the feeling most everyone is a newbie until you step up and just go ahead and get that darn provari- then you can be a seasoned veteran. so twenty years from now(if I live that long) I will still be a newbie......

My experience with the gaming world (realize I am pretty old school) and the terms goes like this.

NOOB is used to refer not only to a new player but one that is hopelessly stupid and never going to learn.

Newb or Newbie refers to a new person that has alot to learn but is learning it.

It is a fine distinction. Yes Noob is offensive to many games because of this.

I've always viewed it more as a term of endearment on this forum. If anything, new members tend to use it themselves with a little bit of good natured self-deprecation thrown in. But it's never meant to be used in a derogatory way or to pick on a new member.

For that matter I'm beginning to think we need to add another label for clarification: Newbie for anyone new to the forum. And Virgin, for anyone new to the forum and completely new to vaping. Perhaps Vaping Virgin even. Some new members aren't exactly clear when they join and, for example, may have been vaping for years when they finally join, but don't necessarily make that point clear in their first post. Then - god forbid - their feathers get all ruffled because our crystal ball wasn't working that day and someone uses the Newbie word. I'm sure more than one person popping in here wouldn't mind reclaiming their status as a virgin - in good fun - no matter what the reason.

I have caught myself calling someone a "NOOB" and have retracted it and it has actually slipped through once or twice. And I understand what you mean. When I was an OTR Trainer (Truck Driver) I never once called my student a student, rookie or newbie. He/She were my Co-Drivers. Yeah I have had female Co-Drivers. Quit training because I began running team with one. I trained her so good that she could out drive me and out tarp me. Her husband was cool with it and so was my fiancé at the time. Her and I could go from NY to CA and back in 4 days. We could do 7000 miles in a week.

I agree that there has to be some line of respect with the new people on here

In my trade an apprentice is called a punk short for pumpkin. Even when we have to do alot of back work we call it punking. " lets punk all of those bolts over here.
To the outsider it might be an insult but to be told your a good punk thats worth having around buy a seasoned Iron Worker is a very high compliment to any apprentice.

I also its not a rule or even a right of passage if you dont want to be a noob dont refer to your self that way I dont think anyone really cares or gives it much thought to be honest.

Especially newbies who own vape shops. I'n my defense, I was paying attention for all the wrong reasons.

Guys, watch it only for some amazing vape-talk, OK?
