Plumes, the newbie in the anedotal case I mentioned specifically stated his max budget was $50. He did not say "i'd kinda not like to spend more than $50." He said $50 was all he had to spend, period.

I made my own anecdotal noobie OP for my post man.
I set my own parameters and asked an opinion I don't think was off topic.. at all.
I wanted to see if the OP was against the specific situation I brought forth.
I could have asked in a more defragmented way with a 2nd edit of my post but I didn't.
I wanted the smaller intricacies of my hypothetical question answered in a more specific manner. Whatever.

You're asking if a thoughtful reply, simply sharing what has worked for you and why, in the correct kind of topic, is appropriate. Of course! But the 2 examples i gave above don't really fit that description, do they?

Yep. Your right. This thread is boring to me now as well. Its coming down to the different thought patterns of our different personalities flicking out tid bits of data and code that my brain has already consumed many times over. :p I'm done. :vapor::p:p:2c::toast:

I Have some blue foam for sale if anyone still needs it....lol and a couple 510s too.....

I'll add some fluval, a 510 charger AND a 510 passthrough to go with the blue foam... oh, and some of those terrible ego tanks that leak all over. The 510's have maybe a week on them, the passthrough a few days if that

SWEET!! I'll trade you a couple of black 901's with the blue leds and no cut off for em!

While at my buddies house I saw some of the kit that used to be "state of the art". Man, I think I decided to switch to vaping at the right time. Don't get me wrong, I have several RBAs and a DUD. I love to tinker but some of the stuff that folks used before goes way out there.

BTW, next year I'll probably still have some pyrex tubing to trade but I'm using it right now... :)

They MUST be automatic though... that newfangled button stuff confuses me when I am drunk. I try to vape, nada. So I try to charge it but it is already charged so why won't it give me any pathetic vapor? Oh, the button....

It has been done before, maybe a year or two ago, but it quickly became outdated.
And even before it was outdated, I doubt there was really widespread agreement on the recommended outcomes.

Not that I'd want to discourage you from giving it a go.

I've given it a go. a lot of us have. I keep a blog and I try to keep it going with all the info a noob could want to know. a lot of times I just give some essentials in the thread and then refer the noob to my blog if he sounds computer savy enough to find it. Its annoying when I can tell the noob might not be computer savvy though, because then I have to type out "go to my user name and click... blah blah.." there are a couple other members that keep blogs as well. kiwivap is another member i know of whom keeps a blog thats very helpful to newbs.

I understand and relate to both sides of this fence. Both sides are right and wrong.
Having dumped hundreds of dollars on junk cigalikes and apv's that have no durability, I eventually gave up and bought a Provari V2 myself, and yes I finally understand the hype and the loyalty that Provari users have.
Unfortunately not everyone can afford one, not everyone likes the same kind of things and it's wrong for anyone to say "This is the ONLY APV you should ever buy, everyone elses suck" I see the same behavior from EGO lovers, Silver Bullet lovers, etc. This is not behavior isolated to Provari users. I just tell my bad experiences and the benefits of buying a Provari and recommend that people do their homework and research before they spend their hard earned cash on whatever model they decide to go for.

I understand it and can relate too.

I don't think it's recommended out of malice or mine is better than yours. I have found that 99.9% of the people here really go out of their way to be helpful. Let's face it, many of us have tried everything to quit. Miracle of miracles, vaping is the only chance many of us had to quit smoking. We hit on a device that seems perfect for us and we recommend it. After a year, some trial and error (which I don't regret) I found the device that's almost perfect for me. It's hard not to recommend it to everyone because I think it's so great. But it's great for me.

Just read the post first, especially in new members. Put yourself in their shoes and remember what it was like when you started. They're adults. Keep in mind they'll probably spend more in liquid finding the right one than they will a pv. If you don't feel like explaining how to get a new battery to work without telling them to throw it out the window to get an xyz mod, let someone else answer the question.

If somebody was just starting out in weekend racing at thier local track, would you insist that they get a Lambo or Ferrari? I dont know about anyone else but when I started running at the track I totaled my first 3 cars going too damn fast(fortunatly it was only a VW Beetle, a Mini, and a Celica. all in all I was out $1500.00). The point is that you DONT need the best of the best to enjoy yourself. Sometimes its ok to bin a car(especially if it was cheap) while finding out if you like the sport. While yes I would LOVE to be able to own(and race) a Ferrari/Lambo at the track. I know my 911 is what I can afford(its not a new one either) and will NEVER fail me.

Although I love my Provari but, frankly, not everyone needs/wants one. And thats OK. I mean hell there is a VW racing league, and a Mini league, and a Celica league, and so on and so on. For every mod there is a fan. For every mod there are people who have tried them and hated them. But the fact is we all take part in the same thing. Just like racing, the 911 league respects the VW league because they are out there racing.

Maybe somene more talented than me could come up with a comprehensive quiz or questionaire that could be stickied here or added to a website that would save us all some time and help us provide better answers? Im sure their are plenty of people who would be willing to help anyone who wants to take this on and its a win win for everyone involved.

Only one problem, maybe only 10-20% of the new members forum people actually read the stickies there. It's fairly obvious from the questions asked there. I've only been around a month and seen about 27 "how many posts do I need to..." threads lol. It's the problem with society that people want their answers handed to them and have no desire to do any research on their own, so the inevitable "buy a provari" response is handed out lol. Your idea is fantastic though and I still think its not a bad idea to have some sort of newbie quiz in the New Members Information stickies

It isnt just Provari fans that are guilty of not listening to a newbs budget and/or vaping needs. Ive seen dozens of threads here with people recommending a setup for someone that likely wont work for them because the person making the recommendation has transferred their needs and preference over the original posters.

You guys have all seen it too....someone recommends a dirt cheap setup with a low MaH to someone who smoked 2 packs a day, or tries to sell them a lavatube when they express they are looking for quality and that moneys not an object.

The key here is asking questions like:

How many cigarettes a day did you smoke? Dont ask if they were a light or heavy smoker because thats subjective...to me a heavy smoker is 2 packs a day while to you it could anyone who smokes a pack or more.

Ask what brand they smoked and what are some of their favorite drink and candy flavors in case they arent interested in tobacco or menthol flavors.

Ask what kind of form factor they were thinking of and then explain the pros and cons to each one.

The more answers you have the easier it should be to narrow down the choice and to give them exactly what they want and need.

I decided to go ahead and have a go at this. Please bear in mind its a work in progress and that I havent slept in 20 hours so everyones input is greatly appreciated.I think this will go a long way towards helping new people and forum regulars alike and its my hope that we can get it perfected and stickied as a nice reference to point new people to so we can help them better.
