I have not read this entire thread but wanted to mention that my mom is a smoker of 64 years. She started out vaping with me and no issues. She has COPD and Emphusema. She went back to the cigs. Recently when she has tried to vape, it has made her cough. We figured out that it is the PG in the juice that is irritating and making her cough. I mixed up some 100% VG juice and no coughing.
So, 100% VG may be worth a try if she is interested. If she is not interested, you may not have much luck at all.

Good luck to you.

I have a couple suggestions. My mom is also in her 50s and hasn't converted yet, although has her own stuff. The thing about long long term smokers i've found is they want something that tastes as much like their current cigg as possible. The best flavor for that is dripping, for one. For two, I've noticed people with lung issues cough so much easier when they start vaping. My mom coughed her head off when she first tried it. I'd have her try dripping and with a juice that's as much like her current brand as possible. Also--she has to want to quit smoking or find an alternative. If she doesn't want it she wont do it. I'd have her hold it in her mouth for a sec before inhaling as others have mentioned. Good luck!

Also, we bought my mom her own joytech 510 and drip tip etc to try to get her into it. Maybe try buying her her own stuff if she knows you invested she may be more inclined to try it.

The mouth draw is really important and you do have to find the right juice. My wife recently got pneumonia and was still smoking. I tried to get her on PVs but, really she wasn't having any of it. So, I just said when you're ready... She finally got ready and asked me to help. I got her to mouth inhaling and started her out on some Boges and an ego batt that I had. When I felt she was going to stick with it, I bought her a roughstack and used some mega XL DC cartos that I ordered some time ago by mistake. That was better. Somewhere in there she complained it gave her a sore throat. So, I mixed her up some all VG. That fixed it. Most recently I introduced her to a carto tank. She took a day or two to appreciate it but, she likes it a lot now. I've told her she's now where most experienced vapers are. She'll have to learn to drip for me to take her any further but, I doubt she'll bother. :)

It helps to have a lot of extra gear laying around. :)

I found that even after 2 years vaping and being a hard core smoker I just cant go with the bigger batteries they are just too harsh. It also might be that she needs something easy and as much like a reg cig as possible. I tried with my mom just before cartomizers came out and it was just such a hassle back then she only stuck with it a week or so before she got frustrated and stopped trying. Now she won't even try again. You might have more success making it as hassle free as you can for her like a Volt with prefilled carts and matching juice or a reg 510. Then she can decide if or when she wants to go to the bigger models.

Oh ya, I searched ecf and couldnt land on the code again, but I think it's fbfree
vapedudes gives you a 10ml bottle of your choice for free, free shipping.
ejuicemonkeys will give a 3ml sample of your choice with any purchase (for instance, cartos)
and as I said before, VirginVapor does a carto w/ sample deal (and VV is so mild, practically no TH)

edited to correct coupon code: fbfree

If she is like most long time smokers including myself, we want something that continues to look and feel like the tobacco habit, that is as easy to use as a tobacco cig.
I roll my own(for 2 more days) so Im used to a bit more hassle than flopping one out of a pack.

And if she is not willing then not much is gonna get her to change the habit.

At this point I am changing my habit tomorrow evening, but I will still have the habit that has comforted me for 49 years, without burning tobacco.

So I can totally relate to this thread. I tried to get my dad and his wife (my stepmom) to switch from smoking to vaping. Both of them had smoked to for over 20 years each. The hardest thing that I faced wasn't getting them to switch, it was keeping them on it. Their first reaction was that they were amazed. They sort of thought they were "cheating". After giving them some starting stuff I check in a month later and they had reverted back to analogs.

How I found success is just showing them the cost savings and finding them a "daily vape" flavor. My younger brother is starting college (I just finished :toast:) and they are realizing that send two kids and one more to college is quite the investment. I think this is what helped me. Find your mom some good, easy vapes and let her experiment on her own. Just stay positive and use your vape around her to keep the idea fresh in her mind.
