Sounds like you've done some research. That's good. I prefer to use verticals on my mutations. That way you can wick from the top with a single piece of cotton and drip feed your coils without having to take off your cap. There are loads of builds so I would say play around and find out what works well for you. Just dont go too low, and if you've not already....please familiarize yourself with ohms law and know the amp limits of the batteries your using. Vapers toolbox and ohms law calculator are two great free apps that will help out a lot! :D Safe vaping is smart vaping and we want you to keep on vaping!

I would start with something simple. This atomizer offers a lot of airflow and pretty generous building space. I'd say stick with 24 and 26 gauge. You could also try large "macro" coils wrapped around something like a 3mm diameter.

I don't like to admit it but I do a little cloud chasing with this atomizer myself.

Right now I have a 24g dual wrapped around a 3mm at 0.37ohms. It's 8 wraps per coil, I'm thinking of doing 9 wraps per coil next. Simple yet effective.

What will you be firing it on and what batteries are you using?

Oh and you should check out the Steam Engine calculator online. It gives you pretty accurate coil possibilities while making it easy to understand what's going on. Remember to vary the heat flux in watts for each calculation.

I personally never liked the Mutation X v3. It's more for clouds than flavor and the builds I did sucked in it. The annoying little triangle screws were a pain too.

I'd suggests MattTny's build and second his last question about the mod and batteries.
Seems like they changed the screws from the v2 to the v3 from the reviews. clean slate on the mod, I do prefer vw mods though.
looking at the smok tech m80, sigeli 100, and the ipv mini2.

I thought the v2 was the last one to use the triangle screws and the v3 uses phillips head?

I have a v2 and do like it, though it seems to be more focused on producing clouds over flavor. Been running a single coil clapton, 30g around 24g 6 wraps and it's a decent build but not quite the best I own.

^ This. For you first couple of builds make simple microcoils. KISS - Keep it simple, stupid. Once you've built a couple, then start experimenting with the more exotic coil builds. Main things are to know the resistance of your coil (always measure it), the continuous amp limit of your battery, and to not exceed the amp limit.

Myself, I find that 3mm diameter (larger coils are easier to wick) 26 or 28 gauge microcoils work just fine.

If you only have 50 watts to work with for the istick you want to get familiar with device capabilities. This will heavily determine what build to put on top.

The istick50 is said to go down to 0.2 ohms, but going that low will tax your battery by pulling a lot of amps. The amp limit is said to be somewhere from 20-25 I'm not really sure.

I'm thinking what you want to do until you get another device is to build somewhere 0.4-1.2. That should be a suitable range to use all 50 watts while keeping battery life in good shape. The 0.4ohms I mentioned is kind of low for the istick and I'd probably recommend 0.5ohms as the low limit, but if I had the istick50 I'd probably try it myself just to see lol. Remember, you don't need to always use all 50, but that atomizer is kind of tailored for high power.

I'm leaning more toward 26 gauge for your scenario right now.

Familiarize yourself with the calculator, not just the coil wrapping page, but the ohms law and mod range page too. The mod range is especially helpful in figuring out limits and how well a device performs. I don't think the istick50 is in there yet.

Baditude linked you some very important info that I just saw after I posted this. Make sure you understand it and if not the community is more than happy to answer questions. The more you understand the more confident you'll be with rebuilding.

Thin guage microcoils are awesome on the MXV3. It allows you to restrict the airflow as much as possible and get great flavor. I have a dual coil 26g five wrap contact build in mine and the airflow is restricted to three airholes on each side.

Believe I saw a build like this on you tube, seemed to work pretty well.
I'm currently running a .5 coil in a melo tank at about 25 watts on my istick 50w, and it's vaping great. rda's just look like something I'd enjoy, so gonna give it a go. The mx3 looks simple yet effective and at a great price point.

I love my Mutation X V3. Great choice!

My favorite two builds so far have been:

-Dual vertical quad parallel wrapped 28 gauge kanthal around a 3/32 drill bit. That is two coils positioned vertically. Each coil has 4 strands of 28 gauge kanthal placed parallel to each other and then wrapped around a 3/32 drill bit. Weighs in at 0.2 Ohms. Excuse the crappy coil. It was hard to place it vertically without warping the coil.

-Dual coils with 2 strands of 26 gauge kanthal wrapped parallel 10 times around a 3/32 drill bit. This is my current build and it's pretty incredible cloud-wise and vapor-wise. Weighs in at 0.3 Ohms

We may have seen the same video. My build is about as simple as it gets. I've tried many other builds but I always come back to my boring dual coil build. It comes out to a little over .3 ohms and has a 2.5mm inner diameter. I pump it to 65 watts and, in two minutes of vaping, I can't see anything in front of me. Just a nice banana fog. :)

I've decided on the sigelei 100w plus for my dripper mod, seems to meet all my requirements and then some. now on to the batteries and charger research.

Nice! That's what I use with my Mutation v3. I actually just bought a 454 big block clone RDA so I have an RDA to vape while I build coils for the other. Plus I've been dying to build some quad coils and the 454 is perfect for that.

What batteries are you using? Seems like the Samsung is a popular choice.
