I was looking at some battery comparisons and decided to give the Samsung INR18650-20R a try...
2000 mAh
20A continuous discharge
Beat the the AW 1600 at all tested amp levels
$7 each shipped
Kind of a no brainer...

But these aren't the batteries that prompted this post... While I was still on eBay I did a quick search for "high drain batteries" and found some batteries that I didn't know existed...

Sony US18650VTC3
1600 mAh
30A continuous discharge
$19 for a 2-pack delivered

Just wandering if anyone knows anything about these Sony's.

Dave - If you're game for putting a new battery through the "Pepsi Challenge", it would be interesting to see how it stacks up to the AW 1600 and the MNKE. :D

It's easy enough to get a flat top to work in a Provari. A small blob of solder does the trick. No clue what the eVic ships with. I don't have one... Even if it is a Sony battery, I'd doubt that it would be this specific model. A regulated device like the eVic wouldn't benefit from a 30 amp limit. It would simply suffer from shorter run times due to the lower mAh rating.

In either case, I was on the hunt for a top notch battery for mechanical devices. At this time the the two top dogs are the AW1600 and the MNKE 1400. Both of which are able to deliver higher voltages under load than the AW2000.

Both of the batteries I mentioned in the op (at least on paper) have the potential to out perform both the AW and the MNKE. I was just wandering if anyone had actual experience with either of these... Especially the Sony US18650VTC3.

I posted here because Dave does some of the best test I've seen on the forum. Figured I might be able to peak his curiosity.

Cant speak for the sonys but the samsungs rock hard. I have both 18650 13q (20amp) and 15q (18amp) and they work great. I have a couple mnke and honestly cant tell a diff other than price.
Thanks for the info. I'll check those out too.

Im sure the vape would fry your lungs if you were able to draw 30amps
LOL... I can't imagine it would be pleasant. Although, I'm pretty sure the coil would pop faster than a fuse.

The primary benefit of the super high amp batteries isn't their amp limits per se (I can't foresee a circumstance where I'd ever approach those limits with an e-cig), it's their ability to deliver higher than normal voltages under higher amp loads.

I don't have those brands, but if you want me to load test them and graph them against the AW, i'd be happy to. Can always bring on new batteries if we like them. The only thing i caution against though, is you can't tell from a load test how many cycles a battery will last. It might be strong out of the gate, but after a few weeks of use it may not be holding the loads it did new. I'd be curious to do an in depth test like that someday, i just don't have the time now.

I have been using these samsungs for six months now and they still hit like day one. I have been ordering bulk from korea and pay about 4$ per batt if i order 10 or more. What little testing ive done the samsung settles real quick and holds a steady voltage, when i test my efest it would have some variations firing for ten secs.

I hammer these batts hard i vape either .6 single or .3 dual coils and never had a problem.

The Sony's are supposed to be 88% after 500 cycles... I can live w/ that... Aide from what fanatic wrote, I haven't seen anything about the Samsungs.
If you'd like I can send you one of each once I get my hands on them... As long as I can get 'em back once the tests are complete.

Let me know.

That's awesome. I'm glad to see that they are working as good as their numbers suggest. I really appreciate the feedback. Thank you. :D

Sure you can send them and i'll test and post up the graphs (i can overlay them). If they perform good, we can bring them on too, more battery options is good for all.

Im using the 13r (20amp) and the 15q (18amp) 18650's these are INR nickel instead of manganese or how ever its spelled. I learned about these over at candlepower forums and took a chance. I had one hard short in a smok telescope, if the battery leaked gas i couldnt tell it was just dead, boy was the PV hot after that happened.

Dave, a package containing one of each battery is in the mail, headed your way.
Thank you for taking a look at these!

Topping them off on the charger now, I hope to have tests results for you by days end! I'll test them at 2.5, 5 and 10 amps continuous load. I may not get them all done today since I have to recharge in between tests. Did you "season" these at all (use them and recharge them, if so, how many times?)

I gave them both one full charge and then vaped them down to approx. 3.7 before packing them up... Nothing beyond that.

So David does seasoning a battery really make a big difference? Using an inline voltage meter... I put a fully charged @ 4.2 volts 26650 MNKE IMR battery in my Shockwave and a fully charged @4.2 volts AW 18490 IMR in my ELA...Using the same atomizer under load the ELA gives about a 0.2 volt higher reading no matter what atomizer I try...Must be that the AW 18490s are well seasoned and the MNKE 26650s have only been cycled a couple of times... You think that is the reason that the bigger battery reads less under load? Snork tested it out with his Shockwave and a P+ and the Shockwave gave higher readings under load(like I think it should)...... My 26650s have only a couple of cycles on them and they were never dischrged below 3.9 volts before recharging... This time Im going to drain them below 3.7 volts before recharging..
