I did it, I made my very first coil for my Kanger Protank and it's working great! I'm so proud of myself :D.

I went down to one of the local B&M's, the better one, got some wire, nichrome cuz they were out of kanthal, got some 3mm silica wick, came home with it and followed the YouTube video I saw about it, and put it all back together. At first my Vision spinner battery button flashed and it wouldn't vape, but I took the coil out and made sure the coil turns were not touching any metal and were centered in the head, and that the coil was far enough down in the head, put it back together and voila! Major VAPE!

The B&M seriously overcharged me for the wire and wick compared to online prices, but I really wanted to do this and stop paying $15 or more for a pack of 5 coils. I don't have a way to check the resistance on my coils yet, but it's working fine with 4 turns at 3.3 volts, so I'm happy :).

I very much want that ohms tester from smoktek that everyone in the world is out of stock on. This went very well and I'm very pleased.

congrats, and yes you should get some kind of ohms meter, and yes that one has been out of stock for some time at every place I check(a lot of ppl on here have been in search of it and ive been checking placed from time to time for them) its great satisfaction to make ur own, u can make them the way you want and better quality control

I use a digital multimeter, as do many other people here. I think that they work just as well as that fancy ohms tester. You can get a decent low-end one on amazon for $20-$25.

Edit: Steam Turbine beat me to it. Still, what we said.

Instead of ohms meter you can get a vamo at fastek
just over $50 with nitecore charger and 2 pani's

Check's ohm and you have a good device to vape as well with long lasting batteries
Cheaper then to keep replacing twist's and spinner's

Well I found the Vamo for $32.18, so I might well be getting that next payday, it looks like the way to go in the future, though I have to say I've been very happy with my Vision 1300 MaH spinner so far, and I don't anticipate having to replace it anytime soon. I've had it about two weeks and it's been great for my chain vaping habit.

I have a multimeter and a few APV's with Ohm meters. These are required if you're building coils. I like the unit you mentioned, and so does every vaper in America, because I've been routinely checking 8 stores for them (online), and they're always sold out. On their waiting list too. Mapvapes sends me an email or two every week saying they're in. When I go to order, they've either sold out, or their notification system sucks. Went there once, it was in, decided to order a couple of other things, and before I could check out, they were out again (whiskey, tango, foxtrot?). Have a store here in Vegas, that they sell this kit, that has to be soldered. I jumped on it. Then they said it was $30, unbuilt. I passed. I offered to build it and show them how to do it (they had boxes of unbuilt ones) and would they give it to me for say $20? They said no. What? Online built for about $20, unbuilt local store $30. Go figure. You know they spent no more than $5 -7 on the unbuilt kits, and I was offering to show them how! I've even considered getting one from Europe. The unbuilt one would be a better deal. They were out of them anyway. No joy. Good luck! You must learn to use a multimeter and pronto!

I built my first Genny coil today. Watched the vids....very easy. Been on the RSST thread. Mine worked fine right off the bat, and the flavor improved between start and second tank. I'm doin' the RBA thing now. Have an oddy and an Ithaka on the way. I'm doomed.....just when I thought the carto tank was the way to go....

Well I don't know about RBA's, I might get there down the road, but for now I'm pretty happy with my Kanger Protank and my Vision 1300 MaH spinner. I will want a mod at some point, and I'm thinking a Vamo would be nice and affordable.

While making new coils for my Protank I found it rather bothersome and annoying that the twisted silica wick would unravel as I was trying to get the pin through it because it was simply twisted together and not braided. I ran into this cheap and sad excuse of a product while trying to find cordage for the fishing nets I wanted to make as well.

Manufacturers are really cheaping out on product quality in many ways and areas, then lying about it, and I found endless examples of "braided cord" that were really just cheap twisted product. I REALLY REALLY HATE THIS DISHONEST PRACTICE!

So I wanted to find decent silica wick that was braided, and not just twisted. I think I did, on Kidney Puncher dot com, and ordered some, along with the 32 ga. kanthal wire I need. Apparently this wick is made in Russia and is not cheap. I found a thread on these forums with a Google search in which it seemed that braided 3mm silica wick was regarded as unobtainable, but I was not giving up. I think I found it, and I hope it's what they say it is, and not again some twisted junk.

The local B&M I got my wick from yesterday charged me $3.99 for just a foot of crappy twisted silica wick, and about the same for just one foot of 32 ga. nichrome wire all kinked up and wrapped around one of their business cards. Wow.. Yelp.com here I come.... these guys are really not helping themselves. They really rape you on coil making materials, perhaps to discourage you from doing that and get you to just pay their double price for the new coils they sell.

There are times when I really do not think much of my own species.

LOL! Yeah, I know what you mean, but so far I'm money ahead. My old man and I were spending $500 a month on tobacco. That's serious money wasted on ruining our health! 8 weeks later I'm about $200 into vaping and I feel much better physically, as well as having a most engaging new hobby to occupy myself with, and a whole subculture to boot. My guy and I are far better off.
