Hello Everyone,

I have been looking into getting a rebuildable device and just wanted to ask a few questions before I pull the trigger. I haven't been reading as much as I should about it, so some of these question might be a little odd.

If I understand right, it isn't a good idea to try it out on a device that reads the ohms (like a vamo) because it could short it out, is this right?

I have my first mechanical mod (a bolt, I think that counts as a mechanical), would that be better to try the coil out on after testing it with a multi meter?

Where is somewhere to purchase the wire, wick, mesh, and devise all at once? It seems like all I can find is one place that has some but not all of the things needed. I am more interested in a tank style rebuildable that a dripping style atty.

I would like to keep it all under $50, unless there is a huge advantage for a little more money.

Thanks everyone

Shorts have nothing to do with the device, they mostly result from the wick and coil contacts where there is no oxidation layer between them on a stainless steel mesh setup. A great thing about a VV device is that when you install a new coil you can start testing it at a low voltage which helps stop popping new coils as soon as you fire them. If you have a mechanical mod you need to use a battery that is low on charge to do the same thing. I think you may have a lot of reading to do and there is plenty of good threads on how to build a coil so congratulations on getting an RBA and do your research before you start setting up.

Cheers.

APVs with circuity generally have protection, short circuit included. They aren't as capable of running low ohm coils though, and this is where mechanicals come into play.

As steve mentioned it's better to fire a new coil on a low voltage, be it drained battery or low voltage setting. This will help you work out any issues before ramping it up.

most of the vendors who sell the atty's have supplies, but almost noone has the best price for all 3 together . one person will have a good price for the atty and wire but not the mesh, one person will have a decent mesh price but charge way too much for wire.

if your willing to pay a few dollars more for eveerything at one spot you can order it in on place. but if you want the best deals you will have to shop around.
i order wire from temco, 9-11 bucks a spool, usually they will ship 100ft or more for free.
and steam monkey is one of the lowest prices for mesh, when they are out i go to okcvapes for 12x12 inch sheets that are usually a bit bigger.and like 3 bucks for shipping

i think discount vapors has the aga cheap.

actually if your not trying to pull off very low resistance setups using a protected VV is fine, if there is a short it wont let you fire the atty, something like the bolt will just let you hold the button until something melts or overheats and while there is little chance of something happening, you could have a melt down on the battery with a short.

just do a proper set up test the coil to make sure its not shorting, meaning on the vamo it reads steady, not up and down and all over the place and you should be fine.
