UPDATE:

I've used #400, #500 ss mesh....I've used cotton, german silica, ekowool silica and now xc-116 ceramic wick.

the XC-116 hits as well as #500 ss mesh, never a short if u don't cross ur kanthal wires, TASTES THE BEST......

its expensive as heck, hardly ever in stock it sells quick

BIG TEX VAPOR had a bit left this morning

$14 for 2 feet.....its tough and durable too

(double up a 4 inch piece into a loop, put 3 snug coil wraps on that puppy of 30 gauge kanthal= 1.1 ohms)

I'm having the same problem. I just got some 32 ga. Kanthal, rebuilt it, and got 1.7 OHM. I thought I had it licked. The next thing I know, is I'm getting atomizer short. It's reading 0.7 now. The coils are (were) glowing evenly.

So anyone have any idea why the ohms are jumping around?

I came home and started over, same result. I did watch videos again and re-read ehumans blog.

What I don't get is that mine pretty much look like theirs. PBusardos anyway.

The only thing I've gotten to work is to set it aside for a few minutes, then vape again. Whatever I'm doing doesn't allow for chain vaping.

Not ready to jump ship yet, but this is aggravating. I can see why so many give up.

I will tell you this though - when I get this set up and running right, it better be total nirvana (not the crappy 2 chord grunge band)

I mean, I wanna have the weatherman changing forecasts because of the clouds I'm putting off

Flavor better be nectar from Heaven

If not, I may test it's durability against a few things I have that go bang. Just sayin...

Oh boy, small fire!? Hope you are safe buddy. Juice is flammable, but it sounds like you have a short (hotspot). Wandering ohms usually means that you have a loose connection, or hotspots.

Yep, I'm good. I seem to have a short at the very top - the last wrap before connecting it to the center post. It glows between center post and wick. Have rolled new wick and re-wrapped coil, still getting the same thing. Don't know if I'm wrapping too tight, too loose, or what? At this point, I don't know enough to know what I don't know. Any ideas what's going on here?

Yes actually, called a hot leg, this is usually caused by too much (or too little in some cases) tension in this portion of the wire, try loosening the POS post to relieve tension, then tighten and re-adjust the coils. When it begins glowing from the center of the coil, you are getting close.

OK, so the million dollar question is this: do we know which is causing it? Is it too tight of a wrap? Or too loose? Or could it be either, I'm guessing? My problem is that I don't know what a properly wrapped coil looks/feels like, and knowing me I will tighten one that's already too tight, or loosen one that's already too loose.

I'm guessing this is where all the trial and error comes in, huh?

I think it was PB maybe that mentions somewhere to try and move the top of the wick closer to the + post. Thus shortening the 'hot leg'. I have an RSST and don't have to wonder about many shorts with all the insulation, but i did give my wick a nice nudge inward and that removed my top hot spot. Also, I realized too late how important oxidizing is. If the whole thing is not done thoroughly it causes short and dead spots in the coil. My first build was 2.5ohm. then I burnt is a few more times to even out the coil better and it dropped to 1.8.

I am also using 32g wire and waiting on my 28g. The thin wire is easy to work with, however, even with just 2 wraps, still getting 1.5ohms or so. I went a straight shot of unwrapped wire right from the ned to the pos post, and still 1.5ohm. Looking forward to getting some sub 1 ohms here pretty soon. I feel like my mech is not being appreciated for what it can do.

The wick hole on the AGA-T is too far from the center post... You need to have as little space as possible between the Kanthal on your top wrap, and the center post. I just bend the top of the wick toward the center post closely as possible.

That said, I've been messing with Genny's since they came out, and HATE them. Oh, they work well when set up properly, but, when I smoked, the most difficult part was pulling a cig out of the pack and lighting it. :) I personally do not enjoy having to oxidize mesh, pick hotspots, etc.... I now use my AGA-Ts with good quality German silica wick. Easy build, easy replacement, plumes of vapor, and taste on par with any mesh I used.

I think I'll be trying the XC-116 next just to compare with the German silica.

Won't it be a waste to use silica on genesis tank while a vivi nova allows you to do that? and its rebuildable too. :/

The AGA-T (2) is set up for either silica or SS mesh builds. When wicked with silica, the vapor production and flavor beats the vivi nova hands-down. ;) :vapor:
