I had a woodgrain jwrap on my MVP for a while but recently decided to remove it. It was my understanding that they left no residue but I removed mine (with a hair dryer) and was left with this.....what's the deal and how best to remove the glue without damaging the finish???

Be careful in your choice; some products may be strong enough to damage or remove the paint (if it's a paint finish; I can't tell from the pic).
If it were mine, I'd try rubbing alcohol and a paper towel. It's not as aggressive as many of the "adhesive remover" products, but it may work with a little elbow grease. Again I caution you to be careful with it; test a small spot an make sure it won't remove the paint!

1st problem was that you put it on a painted surface. 2nd problem was that the wrap glue was on there long enough to bond with the paint. The hairdrier probably didn't help in that either.. It might even be probable that the paint job wasn't as good as it could have been also.
If was only on there for a few minutes, or possibly a day or 2, it might have come off clean.
Rubbing alcohol, time and a slow hand is the best way to remove old stickers.
