Thank you for these truths. The money you have saved fellow vapers...

I'm not saying don't get one - I bought a second one - just don't expect it to be super fabulous. If it is, as it has been for others, wonderful! But if it's not, you still have a functioning glass tank - at least as good as a vivi nova (in my experience).

Somewhere out there
I'm on my third evening with one. I've used probably less than half a tank of juice in it so far, I keep going back to my RBA or Vivi.

Pro -

No leaks
Looks sharp
Glass impervious to acidic liquid
Easy to fill

Cons -
Noisy
Doesn't make good contact with the battery with the trim skirt installed (tried 3 or 4 batteries). I haven't seen this mentioned by anyone else, so maybe it's a one-off issue with mine.
Draw is too airy
Where's the flavor?

I tightened up the draw with tooth pick tips jammed into 2 of the 4 holes.

At least I'm getting a little more flavor now than on the first day, but it's still not right. 65/36 VG/PG. I want to like it since half my juices are tank crackers, but, the so far, meh. I like my Vivis much better.

I'm not sure if I sure pull out a strand of wick, I don't want it to start leaking.

Educational thread. I have one coming in the mail, couple questions .....
  1. Whats the consensus for removing the 'flavor wicks' laying on top of the coil? My DIY mixes are 70/30 VG.
  2. Anyone wrap a lower ohm coil and use on a mech mod? Or should I keep it with 2 ohm heads and use the vamo? Based on wattage replies above, looks like the sweet spot may be around 1.1 - 1.3 ohms for a 3.7V mechanical. Anyone try?
  3. If one wraps a cotton wicked head, I would imagine a less airy draw .... but do you put another cotton wick on top of the coiled one?
  4. If you're wrapping the screw connector with teflon tape & poking air holes..... aren't you losing your neg connection & relying on the base to touch the 510 connector?

TIA!

Here is how I created an lanyard for the protank and also solved the airy draw at the same time without creating a leaking or gurgling problem.

I needed a way to wear my Protank on a lanyard around my neck that held it upright and balanced so I got my .45 gauge jewelry wire out and ran the wire two short pieces through the air vents and joined them using two cinch beads on either side.

I noticed right away that my vape was stronger and more flavorful, and much less airy.

I have used this lanyard on ego twists as well a Kanger batteries and it works very well.

It's a kind of a bother lining it up every time I screw it on the battery but is worth it to get that extra flavor and a real nice way to suspend it from a lanyard.

The wire is also a bit of a bother when handling but I have gotten to love the draw it creates and so do not mind the wires protruding when not hung on the lanyard itself.

If you are handy at making jewelry, this is a great and easy fix!

I'm confused. The wire is between the bottom of the tank and the sleeve/platform? Doesn't that make it sit up higher?

ETA: I still don't understand how the wire blocks the airflow, but I found something else that works: the round stickers for reenforcing the holes in notebook paper. They fit perfectly around the center screw and you can't see them when the battery is screwed in. My, my, being a squirrel and having tons of junk to play with has it's perks.

I feel the same way VapRLady, I have a glass tank on my setup, aga-t +, and I fashioned a lanyard so as not to break the glass.
Oh all the ego's that have rolled off our laps, to lead us to this cautiousness.

It's probably balanced better that way.
Plus, there is no other way to get a good fasten/point of having a lanyard.

The wires are in the two grooves on the base between the base and the "Beauty skirt" or battery.
Also, the wires are not thick enough to lift the tank, they are thinner than the openings so they "wiggle" back and forth in the slot, but thick enough to restrict the airflow just a bit.

I'm not sure why it works, but it was an unexpected dividend.

That sounds interesting, being also the "Hoarder from Hell" I know I must have some of those around here, probably with my mimeo carbon copy paper....

I would also like to comment on a few things I have discovered, the flavor get better once the atty has soaked for a few hours, the vaping gets better, (less airy) after a day or so.

Atty's will last two weeks or more with a well made, somewhat balanced VG/PG mix, (20 percent either way), if your mix has a lot of water in it, it won't vape well, (some vendors cut thier cheap VG with distilled water).

Dark thick caramel juices are touch and go, low voltage and the atty's foul earlier.

Rinsing the atty if it seems to be loosing flavor works well, run hot water through the atty, (hold it in the hot water stream switching ends), dab, (blot) wicks and let dry overnight or at least a few hours, flavor will be very muted if atty is damp at first.

Most of the burnt hit problem seems to come from screwing the tank down too tight on the battery, this twists the atty which in turn twists the wicks and warps them out of place, it can even twist the coil, so do not over tighten to try and reduce the airy draw. This was my first NOOB error.

Most leaking problems come from not tightening the atty each and every time you open the tank, even the first time you fill it, tweak it to make sure it is fully seated.

Gurgling can be caused by a loose atty, quick temperature changes as well as a tendancy to flood immediately after filling. I remove the tank from the battery, blow gently though the 510 end while holding a pipe cleaner in the stem piece just at the opening of the atomizer stem, (do not insert into atty stem itself, just cover the opening). This flushes out the liquid quickly and neatly.

Also, these tanks like to run hot, this also prevents fluid collecting in the atty stem and creating gurgling. 4.2 volts is just about right for the 2.5 atty, (depending on what your juice can take).

If you get a burned flavor, turn down the heat and vape until the burned taste is gone, if you leave the burned atty taste in the juice the whole batch will taste burned by morning.

That's all I know 'til I learn some more!

Here's my :2c: ... people have different experiences on the draw on these things because of the way the airflow is designed. The skirt that comes with it has no airflow, it's all in the grooves machined into the bottom of the tank. If you use the skirt on an eGo connector, tighten the skirt all the way down, then put on the tank and turn the skirt back up flush with the bottom of the tank. This restricts the airflow and tightens the draw.

Unfortunately, with my MVP, if I use the included skirt, it's a little too tall and the center pin doesn't connect... so I put on a smaller eGo sleeve. This sleeve also has a couple of slots for airflow, so even if I twist it up flush with the tank, it's too airy. I had to fill in the slots on the bottom of the tank with Sculpey (non-toxic plastic clay available in art supply stores) so that the tank's 2 grooves are filled in flush... now if I tighten up the sleeve to the tank, it's only getting airflow from the skirt.

If you are using it on a 510 connector without the skirt and it doesn't sit down tight on your device, it will be airy... using a spacer like the previous posts suggested will tighten up the draw.

It's fiddly, and the EVOD heads do seem to work better for me than the ProTank ones... you have to experiment to get it right for your device, but once you do it's a champ!

Picked up 4 Protanks but overall i'm getting better flavor from my STV Vivi Nova. I'm on a provari mini too...

Taste is very personal and subjective, I like the Protank, I have six, but I still like some of my juices better in my eVods or MT3's, I even have one juice I keep in my stardust because it was my first vape and I like how it tastes in that PV and no other.

I like the convenience of using Kanger products compared to others and found I had trouble with the warmer vapors of top atomizer tanks because of my COPD. I plan on getting a Vivi Nova and a carto tank or two just to experience it, but my personal daily vape is the Protank...I have a great Cinnamon Red Hot I steeped for a month loaded up and it's the best vape I have ever experienced and I don't have to worry about the tank melting and inhaling plastic.

I plan on checking out your Vivi, sounds like it might be nice!

I vape the Vivi on a 1.8ohm coil at 3.5v, I'd like to hear your opinion on them as the jury is still out for me. I just get too many burn hits on these and have to tip them way too much. My current set up produces a soft, slightly warm vape, but still every 3rd hit gotta flip it or roll it.

Oh, the mini vivi 510 is junk, the 510 is a press in piece with a thin rubber gasket, mine started leaking after a week or so.
