I had been getting a little leaking with my Protank .. had been using 2mm wick in the coil and then 2mm for the flavor wick. It leaked and the flavor was only "good", not "excellent". Same with my EVODS. I like to use an EVOD when I am out in public, but the flavor just wasn't all that great.

First I tried the no flavor wick thing with the EVOD .. in that coil I made the wick 3mm (by using one 2mm piece and then 3 of the 6 strands from my 2mm silica) .. so it ended up being 3mm. It was an instant hit, huge flavor, no leaking .. perfect. Then I did it to the ProTank .. same result.

I use to do 5 wraps with my kanthal .. but when I increased the size of the silica I reduced down to just 4 wraps. I use a needle as a stabilizer for the silica when do my 4 wraps and my coil comes out to 1.8 every time.

Been using EVODs and ProTanks for over 3 months .. wish I'd been doing it this way from the beginning.

Alrighty, thanks for the tips :) As I think I've mentioned earlier, I use 4x1mm inside the coil and no extra wicks, and no leakage. So it works just fine, just curious if something even easier will give the same result, which it seems it will :)

Glad to hear you're using 4mm .. that's what I planned to do next time .. 2x2mm = 4mm.

I have been using 3mm silica wick, 32 gauge Kanthal, 4 wraps, (1.8-2.0ohms), and no flavor wicks, totally awesome vape and only a bit of leaking when the tank is almost empty. I hadn't read the rest of this thread until today so I didn't know others had struck upon the idea, I made a video showing how easy it is to make this setup for Protanks and eVods, two atty's rebuilt in less than 20 minutes.

WARNING! the video is 24 minutes long but covers a lot of material.
Thanks Face Meat for starting this excellent thread, you gave me the bravery to give it a try and now I have rebuilt more than two dozen heads!!

Very nice video ... love the seashell!!! My 3mm coils worked good, but after using them for 24 hrs I was getting a few little leak droplets, not a lot but I don't like ANY leaks. So yesterday I made a Protank coil, an Evod coil and a T3 coil .. all at 4mm, they all vaped great, then I left them upright overnight, checked them this morning .. no leaks and they are vaping fantastic. I think I'm going to make all of mine at 4mm from now on.

I think I will make my wicks 4mm, but I have a bunch of 2mm that would otherwise go unused so I will double it and try it out. It depends on who you buy you wick from, I guess, it can be very differently made according to manufacturer. Glad you enjoyed the video, as I learn I like to pass it on and have made a great many new friends through this medium!

That's what I do .. I use 2x2mm wicks because I have lots of that size already. I'm going to experiment making the coils 3.5mm too, I think just so it's a little more than 3mm there wont be any leaking at all, but 3mm is just a tad too little. Also, I pre-burn both the silica and the wire before I wrap my coils. Hope you keep making videos, you do a great job at it.

Ah man, is 3mm giving people leaks? I just ordered some :p

I didn't get an actual "leak" .. a drop now and then. So now I'm trying a 4mm one and a 3.5mm one, only because I dont like even one little drop. Probably wouldn't bother some but bothers me cuz I'm OCD about that sort of thing.

If it's the drop of juice/condensation on the battery connector you're referring to, I think that's next to impossible to avoid - doesn't that happen with pretty much every bottom coil out there?
I get that tiny bit of smudge or whatever, on my battery connector, especially when vaping the Protank to nearly empty, and that's with 4x1mm silica.

When I used 3mm I did get an actual "drop", then 2 hrs another "drop", they werent condensation. I'm running a few experiments now, I've increased to 4mm and it's been dry as a bone for nearly 24 hrs. Next I'm going to decrease down a little .. to 3.75 and also one at 3.5 .. somewhere in there is the perfect size for me .. but YMMV

I have been quite satisfied at 3mm, just a condensation leak occasionally, as you point out. I simply want to go a bit beyond to see what will occur for my own curiosities sake. I have been vaping 5 Protanks and 4 eVods with this 3mm, 4 wrap method and I am very satisfied with the result. The low ohms gives more, warmer vapor to add to an all around better vaping experience.

The extreme fluctuation of heat from 60 degrees am to 95 degrees pm in Florida tends to cause a sweating of the coil that produces a small amount of condensation to appear at the bottom of the atomizer, old wick style or new. I am afraid 8mm would not prevent it. Anytime you have a soaked wick suspended above an open hole, there will be some leakage... there is no remedy for it and it is not that objectionable.

I vape from 100% PG to 100% VG and anywhere in between, I think you will do well with 3mm, as many others will attest to.

Also, if you have restricted the airflow of the eVod or Protank you may want to open that up after rewicking, the new wicking restricts the airflow even more so it may cause dripping because the airflow is too choked off.

Here at work I ended up making a 4.5mm coil lol. I wasn't thinking and I used a 3mm and two pieces. My silica is 4 pieces in 3mm. It's actually working pretty well. No dry hits. I figured 4.5 it would be chocked too much so I put the silicon deal upside down. It's wicking well even though it's a full tank. Alot more vapor and flavor is better.

I have a theory that the more wire you have exposed burning juice the more vapor there is and more flavor.

Came out to 2.3 ohm at 5 wraps.
