I've never torched a silica wick. Does it make a big difference? Should I use a cheap butane one from fasttech?

I torch both my wire and wick .. I use a lighter. I do it before I wrap and again when I have the whole coil made with the silica inside .. with the pin still inside the coil, I hold it by the head of the pin.

I use a 3 jet butane lighter, picked up cheap, maybe $5, at a local head shop one day when I ran outta juice. Torching the coil will remove any oil & contaminant residue from mfg, and sets it, kinda locks it in shape. Not sure what torching the silicone does, perhaps the same, but take care not to burn it!

To me, it gets rid of the "new coil" taste, that I'd get before I started doing torching it.
I just use the blue part of the flame from a lighter - by using the blue part, the silica won't turn black, like it will if you use the yellow part of the flame :)

I had to giggle at the irony of your statement considering your Avatar pic.... I burn my wire but not my wick, BIG difference in taste on the first few vapes. Heating the wire "anneals" it, making it softer, more malleable and releases kinks which may cause hot spots on the wire.

lol. Photochopped that after getting totally fed up with ego style batteries :)

I imagine it was actually an improvement, I keep looking for financially challenged eCig friends in my neighborhood to foist them off on.... I tell them when their ready to get serious about it come back and I'll teach them about REAL batteries.

:p Three friends spent hours at my place recently, sampling many of my DIY flavors with my RBA dripper on top of a modified iSeason mech mod. They each went home and ordered ego kits with CE5 clearos or ego-T tanks, even though I advised not to. They should take those things off the market imho. They're now all wondering why their kits are leaking, don't taste anything like mine, and nowhere near the plume. Doh.

Hey folks. I've read this thread, though I don't own a Protank or an Evod. I've been rebuilding a couple of RDAs and an AGAT+, and bought most of my wire from T E M C o. If you folks haven't already stocked up completely on wire, I would like to let you in on my recent experience with them. I ordered directly from the previously mentioned company 9 days ago, received a confirmation email, money taken from bank, and that's all so far. Wait time is 4 weeks according to the website. I ordered from the same company but through Ebay 2 days later, and received the wire in 5 days. I could not distinguish a price difference.

I ordered on temco ebay and It shipped like two days after I ordered. Good service.

Same here... these protanks surprised me. I stopped using my ss mesh as these just vape great for what I want. And yes I can build good ss mesh wicks

The SS mesh scares me. For one SS remind me of nazis and mesh makes me think of those shirts goofballs in the 80s wore.
